  1. I ignore the resolve bar, There's no damned telling if it's going to work or not. Sometimes you can stun people with a full bar sometimes you can't.

I've noticed mine almost never works, so I don't even pay attention to it anymore. About he time i noticed I was getting knocked, pulled, stunned etc with a full white bar ticking I said the hell with it. These people don't know what the hell they are doing.

Mechwarrior online in June anyway so pfft.

    This.

  2. There is almost no stats difference between battlemaster and warhero gear. One biochem stim makes more of a difference than upgrading all your gear from bm to warhero (trololol). It's maybe a 5% difference.

I do not understand why people keep saying things like "OMG GEAR > SKILL" when battlemaster is very easy to get and it doesnt even really take a week to go from fresh 50 to full bm, even if you only play a few hours a day. You can even still be quite useful in recruit gear (though it is noticably weaker)!

So... why does a small fraction of the community post something about gear in literally every single thread, I just don't understand?

Mixed gear sets. People coming on board against near full WH will struggle. Plus WH with augments. Until they get caught up, but then there will probably be another set available to the WH crowd and the divide will continue. Those little things can add up.

  3. Has you guys notice how many 'bad' Marauders are in WZ these days? Poor timing of defensive CD's, sloppy rotation and seems they struggle with the basic ability to stay in range in PvP!

    :rak_02:

We are under powered. Boost maras!

  4. Hello,

I have noticed not all people vote, so I thought it might be nice if someone leaves without voting, that their vote be auto given to the top objective points scorer. This leaves them the choice to vote, but also rewards those who go for the objective if they do not vote.

Also, a possible addition could be to reward the player who is top MVP for that match 1 Rank accom at lvl 50 and maybe an extra 10 Accoms at 49 and below?

    Cheers

    Stackys

There is no "objective" criteria. I don't get credit on my Mara ever time I predate the ball carrier in. Or mezz five opponents on the goal line. The medals are just stats, at best and don't reflect team play. If my team doesn't work together, I don't vote. That is my vote.

  5. You put a lot of thought into this and it's great and insightful.

I just want to pvp. I don't want to need a degree to play it. I'm a dummy. Even with pve there are already multiple vendors for each level and each one needs a certain thing to get it and sometimes you need more than one thing.

Crafting is already so ganked up I don't know what schematics are where and make what any more.

Gear needs to be fundamentally simple. The simpler the better. Hell, get rid of pvp gear altogether. Or just make one set of gear that is customizable however you want with one vendor that has every accessory sorted by class.

To do anything in this game it's becoming work and it's tedious. The more complex it is the more problems there are. Let's get back to basics.

  6. http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/15/hyperspace-beacon-swtors-james-ohlen-shares-the-formula-behind/

Per the SWTOR Game Director.....get your recruit gear!

Now all you claiming augmented PVE gear with dailies in it is better than recruit gear can zip it and stop spewing your fiction.

PVP players can start using Orange augemented skins when they are able to A) buy the skins and B) can rip the mods out of BM gear. As you can't rip mods out of recruitgear, you have to wear the recruit gear till that time. Do NOT wear anything but PVP gear in PVP. PERIOD.

The point got missed. No one is saying wear pve gear. That was the design of making recruit gear. (although some pve pieces are better in pvp still).

  7. Have you compared the stats pre and post 1.2?

Expertise is much more important to have as a fresh 50 then it was. Recruit gear is not great but it gives you around 900 expertise. And believe me you NEED that expertise for WZs. Expertise not only reduces damage taken from a player it increase your damage to a player. Player being the key word here. Expertise is NOT a defensive stat. It is a PvP stat. It ONLY effects damage to and from other players. It has no effect in PvE.

BW did this intentionally. They want you to use PvP gear for PvP and PvE for PvE. It means more play time and more money for them. They say they do it so you have to participate in PvE or PvP content to get BIS for that activity. Before 1.2 some PvP gear was an upgrade when using it for PvE and some PvE gear in PvP. In fact BIS for PvP was a hybrid mix of both before 1.2.

If you don't want to be face-rolled in 2 seconds get your recruit set before entering a WZ. You are not doing your teammates any favors either if you don't. And they will tell you about it. Might even leave the WZ.

You are 100% correct, just not for this scenario. That plays out for what it was intended for: new people who have no idea what pvp is, want to try it, and can get in fast. And they still take a beating, just a little less of it. People, BM gear is damn near free. I see these poor fellows come in in all RG all the time and they can't do a thing. The real issue is that Bioware wants to expand the pvp base but didn't acknowledge a entire community that already has WH that is so far above it makes RG meaningless.

Go buy a set of RG right now and go hit a guy with WH. He will stand there and laugh then 2 shot you. Explain the value of your purchase in that scenario? People want it to be right and work that way,but it's broken. RG doesn't stand up at all.

  8. One more thing for the OP before he runs around naked. For the current BM gear you have RUN to the GTN and buy the augmented BM gear to replace it NOW! You can not only have your last set of gear (it is all about the things you put in it, not the gear itself) but you get the augment bonus now. If you got three BM already, the bonus already is incredible. Use the augment slots for surge before you do anything.

Even though you will have to grind to WH gear all you are after are the mods. The gear is just a useless shell. Also, don't throw away any shells, BM or WH. You will need to trade in the BM shell for the WH gear and eventually you will likely need the WH shell as well.

Also, make sure any BM mods go into the exact augmented BM piece you buy and do this as a practice. Otherwise you will see your set bonus destroyed and it will be a mess. For items not part of the set bonus, scour for orange gear you like and start building it out.

  9. 1) what crafter makes augments with expertese ? I have never seen one.

    2) 5 crit crafted orange items would be? I am guessing head, chest, legs and...a second hat and an extra pair of pants? Curently the readily available crit craft oranges for gloves and boots are (drum roll pealse) ...

Crafted battlemaster and war hero sets!! they require valor rank 60 and 70 to equip.

So if you have valor rank 60-70 you have PvPed quite a bit and therefore have a suit of battlemaster gear and thus don't wear recruit gear.

So lets move past all that and assume that a new level 50 who has no expertese gear needs some expertese.

    1) The can not get 5 pieces of crit crafted orange gear because belts and wrists don't exist as crit crafts and boots and gloves are crafted BM or WH gear and require valor rank 60+.(I have never seen a crit crafted orange gloves or boots that were not BM or WH)

    2) I have never seen an augment with expertese ever.So let's assume these exist but are like super duper rare how much will those babies cost? Essentially expertese augments are not available so not an option.Even if they were readily available they would be what? +18 expertese? so +90 for 5 augments...wow 90 expertese KILLA!

    3) So we have a fresh 50 who can have 3 crit crafted orange items with zero expertese or they can buy the recruit set and not be a speedbump while they climb the ladder into BM gear.

P.S. I do have a full set of crit crafted orange gear including 2 pistols these are filled with BM mods(1258 expertese) and being tweaked with WH as I aquire them. The only drawback to this is loosing the item set bonuses I feel it's more than offset by having 7 augments instead. But I started with a recruit set as a fresh 50.

I guess you just flame instead of reading. He already said he has some BM gear already. There are five potential set pieces that make up any set bonus. Actually you can also buy an augmented belt too, but not for the set bonus. Maybe no one crafts on your server. I see tons of them. And many people argue the set bonus isn't all that (although I do like it).

You can go to an Ask Mr Robot and see all the crafted gear, including augments for expertise. You can get (unless they removed it due to RG) orange pieces filled with pvp stats starting at level 45 if you progressed properly in game. Of course all the elitists racing to 50 and not actually playing the game don't notice this. Plus endurance is very important and the dailies have tons of mods for it.

So, as you admitted, they can get two weapons out of the gate from the vendor I mentioned, he has some BM already, and there is a veritable mod shopping center next to the pvp terminal. Thanks for admitting to some extent I was right. And expertise isn't everything. Hello, I wouldn't augment for expertise. Ever.

Unless you're running around into 50 in all greens with no understanding of progression, the suggestion that buying full RG and jumping in is ridiculous. To suggest it given where it seems this guy is is also ridiculous. He can have BM in a week and be ahead without spending a credit. It's that simple.

Well, flame away I'm done. Some people just want to argue instead of look around, experiment, and think a little. This guy can take what he has and set himself up really good and now he is going to have a bunch of useless RG, given his scenario.

  10. So as a fresh 50 thats been keeping up on my gear through leveling I ran into a problem once I started PvP in the 50's bracket. I looked at the recruit gear and held off on buying it as all of my primary stats would decrease, but expertise would increase as well as accuracy, power, etc.. I know expertise is what you want to up in PvP, but some of the drops in my Str/End were 20+ points, is that too much to sacrifice for 70 points in expertise per piece? I've gotten a few BM pieces, but I'm still not clear on what stats I should focus on at this point. As a JK Sent I know I want accuracy, expertise and such but what should I be looking for as far as a cap to strength and endurance? Should I always go for more expertise?

And one last thought since everyone is piling on me. As you said, you have a few poieces of BM gear and the required stats will come along by virtue of the new gear. There is zero reason to add recruit gear at this point. It wont get you anything (negligible and wont make you more successful). Keep building the BM and add some custom orange gear to replace that with augments. You wont have the recruit gear long enough to care anayway. BM comes fast so dont worry.

  11. you want expertise ALWAYS. the only time you can start to lay off stacking it is once you have > 20%

until you have 1100 expertise, your base stats come second to stacking expertise. if youre going to be pvping, you will see a much better return on stat investment from expertise than any other stat, in terms of both damage output and survivability

Everyone wearing recruit gear in a warzone today disputes this claim because you cant create damage or negate it when youre dead and standing in a penalty box. Again, insofar as workign towards BM gear, recuit gear is a nice package, but useless in todays BM/WH environment.

Not to say that recruit gear players cant contribute- there are great players in that base- they just got screwed in gear and have to work a lot harder.

  12. .

I have no idea if this dude is being serious or not. On one hand i want to laugh but on the other, im going "***, over?". "thats why everyone has modded custom gear after war hero. duh (my favorite part". take a look at that modded custom orange gear and youll find a bountiful amount of a stat called EXPERTISE!!!!!! why is this so hard for people to understand? you need expertise to succeed in wz's. orange modded gear lmfao.....

I suspect you are one of those guys that nevers leaves Fleet so Ill offer two things that are simple. Look to the right of where you are standing. There is a weapons vendor. He has all orange moddable weapons with...wait for it...Mods in them!

Mods make the custom gear. The gear is irreleavant but I am sure you know that.

Ill also clue you in on one other fact but this will blow your mind, but I am not telling you anything more because you will abuse it. Custom gear comes with...wait for it...augment slots! There are augments that are craftable for any stat you want, including...Expertise! Yay!

And guess what? 5 pieces of custom orange gear with 5 extra slots is...wait for it...better than welfare gear...yay!

Why do you think it is that Recruit Gear is purchasable with credits? Because anyone can get it with zero effort and it is...wait for it...terrible!

I cant take any more time to lay out how to build a custom set, because I did it and it was better than RG. I dont want you to think it through. I want to faceroll you in your welfare RG. Enjoy.

  13. Greetings everyone!

We wanted to share with you the following threads regarding this topic that you can also participate in if you wish:

    Thank you!

Thanks! I didn't mention that I had Bioware analyze all my files, logs, hardware and connection and the conclusion was that it should be working perfectly, yet wasn't. They also asked me to make many changes like not running anything in the background, running in XP mode, running as admin, and on and on but the thing that got them is I was already doing that. I know there are people with issues due to hardware and location, etc, but there are people with super systems that shouldn't have trouble and do. Knowing this can help those that are having problems and nothing is working. I was a software developer and I am very familiar with my set up, what should work, and where the issues are.

I hope your links help someone else.

  14. I agree, the stun bug is ridiculously annoying and is happening far too often lately for my liking.

Sometimes I don't even come out of it after being killed, I stay stunned while waiting in the prep room until it kicks me for inactivity.

(OP isn't complaining about being chain stunned btw, this is the bug where stuns don't properly wear off after their duration. Seems to happen often when hit with both a knockback and a stun/mez at same time. Often you are even allowed to attack people that come within range of your abilities, but you can't ever move again)

Jeezus...just when you thought it couldn't get worse.

  15. The only thing I hate about multi-level landscapes is I can never figure out where anything is. I know there are some "gray" cues like a lower road will be gray and a higher road will be solid, but it's hard to tell where the levels change and converge. Coruscant gives me a headache I swear. So if they do more of it I hope they consider the navigation a little so it makes better sense.
  16. Nice example: My server has an entire GUILD who refuses to buy Recruit gear....and then their premade faced some actually geared playes IE the rest of us. It was a Voidstar match and we capped under 3 mins. It was like running a hot knife through butter. After that game they all went and bought their gear. A rematch happened the other day and the match was a complete stalemate.

Meaningless. Maybe they had greens at first and any improvement was great. Maybe the other team really blew or also had recruit. No recruit team can even damage a BM team. Period. The recruit gear sucks.

  17. Buy the Recruit gear partner. I remember how much of a difference the old Champion gear made for me once I horded enough commendations. The face that you can just buy the Recruit gear is such an advantage to new 50's post 1.2. I remember being upset that some of my main stats dropped with the PVP gear but it is such a need to have Expertise. I increases your damage, it reduces the damage done to you, it even increases the amount that you get healed by other players.

Modded custom gear is better than recruit. That is why everyone has modded custom gear after war hero. Duh. The mods can be gotten through dailies. Google "swtor recruit gear vs custom" and you will find a hundred articles on it. People respondingin this post have had better gear for so long they don't remember what it is to think outside the box. Recruit gear is for jumping in cold, but you should already have full custom oranges by 50. The adjustment to mods is minor and better. But do what you think is best and look at all the fools with recruit gear failing.

  18. acually it sounds you are on a bad pvp server if u think that u can help your team without recruit gear in pvp, you will just ruin it for the team.

Yeah you got me. Keep standing there in recruit gear against BM and WH mixes. Lol.

  19. No, recruit gear is absolutely necessary for a fresh 50. Orange augments are simply not enough. I hit 50 on my vanguard alt last night and in recruit gear with a WH wpn, I could easily break 200k dmg with upwards of 50-60k protection. In Novare Coast, guarding mid, I hit 350k dmg, and was 4th overall on the dmg list, with 12 medals as well. Recruit gear is far from useless. You do not make up for the loss in expertise with augment slots.

You must be on a pretty bad pvp server. Before recruit gear that is exactly how you would enter wz's and the only difference in recruit gear is the endurance which pertains to survivability, so again the damage reports are irrelevant - you would do more damage with oranges, if that was the goal of pvp. I love that everyone trolls how many medals they got and how much damage and they always lose. As if damage meant anythIng significant. I got guys with 91 kills and top damage and we lose Hutball 6-0. Kudos.

  20. Not true - while fresh 50s may get crushed quite frequently it isn't just because of the gear. I have two alts who are still in mostly-recruit (2-5 bits of BM on them now) and yet they both make useful contributions to teams. Of course you aren't going to win a 1-on-1 with an experienced WH but that isn't what it takes to win a WZ.

For example, you can tank just fine in such gear as long as you also pop a Fortitude stim. Remember, PVP tanking doesn't involve getting the whole of the other team to hit you it involves guarding, taunting and peeling from your healers. 100k Protection and 200k Damage is perfectly achievable in such lowly gear. Similarly, other specs can comfortably do 200k healing or damage just so long as they stick with and support their team - don't go charging in first, don't think you're the god you felt like as a L49. Play for your team, play the objectives and you can still do fine (I've managed a 50% Pug win-rate on them over the last few days, which compares with a 70% premade win ratio on my Conqueror.)

The problem with most people in recruit gear, who aren't alts, is that they are both worse players and in worse gear. The gear is only a fraction of the overall problem.

More on topic, yes Recruit gear is worth it. The difference between 900 Expertise and 0 Expertise is bigger than the difference between Tionese and Rakata.

I don't disagree with anything you said, but don't get high on recruit gear. You would be better off coming in with orange moddables with bonus augments. C'mon.
