  1. Wow there is no way you read that whole thing in 2 minutes lol
  2. So after reading the recent news about SWTOR going free to play it seems that much of the finger point could very well be going in the wrong direction. I realize that many of you feel that Bioware is at fault for the woes of the game and think that the blame falls entirely on their shoulders as to why it has not achieved the success it was expected to have. Now let be clear I am not going to let Bioware off the hook here because, yes there are some problems that need to be addressed. (Speed hacks, Bugged raids, falling out of ships into space However, if an MMO is only as good as its devs and community, I think we need to take a hard look at the community and its response to the first 7.5 months its been out. The first thing I would ask the community to do is to take a hard look at any other MMO past or present at its launch. Was it perfect? Really? Does anyone remember WOW first very buggy year? Or COH’s freezes and physics issues in the first six months? Or did anyone beta test the Secret World? There is plenty of work that needs to be done their. (Age of Conan) So many of you feel that you got cheated out of your money or that the game is not worth the monthly fee. Well if you have left then you have proved my point. If you are reading this then I would say that no MMO I have played has reached its full potential even a year after launch. Its not till the community chimes in the devs adjust, add content, and work with that feedback that a winning end result is truly achieved. Now I am a teacher and I can tell you that NO student has ever handed me the perfect essay on try one. Did you think Bioware was an MMO game developing prodigy? If so then yes you have every right to be disappointed. But, I think this is the trend of the current gamer. You want it all now because in your ADHD, over stimulated, entitled, instant gratification culture that’s what you are used to. And if that’s the case you have or are probably planning to go back to your old standby game or jump to the next shiny new one out there. In which case please don’t be surprised if you are quickly bored or disappointed by your choice. The unfortunate result is that those of us who enjoy the genre and content of this game and still have hopes that it will continue to develop are either going to wait longer or never have their hopes fulfilled. I was looking forward to level increases, new content, companions and the possibility of expanding space similar to that of SWG. Yet given the fact that many of you out there view the game as a Titanic and are jumping ship like the rest of the rats, don’t be surprised if all you find is the cold waters of the MMO ocean out there waiting for you. Believe me, I have no delusions about the responses I am sure to get from this post below. And for all those that tell me to “Suck It!” thank you for proving my point with your Ritalin based 2 word response. It makes me glad my mother didn’t medicate me as a child when I was diagnosed. For those that have a bone to pick I welcome it. This is where constructive conversations about this should take place. However, like I tell my students please support your arguments with specific and appropriate data. Again I am not saying the games is perfect but it is important to realize that all good things take time, whether it be character building, game building, or community building. Those who have left or are currently thinking of leaving I would ask you don’t throw stones in glass houses. You aren’t perfect why would you expect the game to be after just over 7 months. Hell I’m 39 and gaming so I am by no means perfect. Of course that's my opinion I could be wrong...
