Something something people grinding and/or buying GS levels for CCs on multiple servers. Something something "abusing the system" according to some people and apparently Bioware...

Each season, I completed the track on 2 servers. During the season, I played the game that much more, helping populate another server for some time everyday. I would love for someone to explain to me how spending more time playing the game would be considered "abuse." It was clearly by design. If a player wanted to unlock GS levels using CCs, they would have been in the red at 100 CCs per level, so there's no way to "abuse" the system to gain CCs. The catch-up feature using credits is a credit sink, so that's working as intended.

Just because some players choose not to play GS on more than one server does not make it "abuse" for those who did / do. The real explanation that people don't want to believe is that they swapped CC rewards for some Cartel pack rewards. While I prefer the old system, I'll still proceed through GS on 2 servers as I have done before.

Cuz I cba getting a 330 set? If I can do it in 320 I'm sure in 330 it shouldn't be an issue?

At release, this was level 65 content that was not too hard in gear around 200 with a companion between influence level 10-20. It should be even easier on a level 80 in 320 gear with a lvl 50 comp. If they want to make a more challenging version of EC, they should make a vet mode that gives you better rewards than garbage lvl 65 gear, but keep the story mode tuned the way it was released.

That being said, they clearly aren't going to make any changes before GS week 3. It's been over-tuned each time the max level was raised. This is one of the many areas in the game the devs have all but abandoned.

I'm betting most of their revenue is being generated from the Cartel Market and not the subscription. The reason the subscription isn't increasing with inflation is because less people would probably subscribe if it were 20 dollars a month especially for a 10 year old game. Inflation has kept up with new items in the cash shop by the sheer elimination of 2 qualities of gear which were a lower price point and lower cost to unlock in Collections. I can't remember the last time a silver or bronze quality item was released on the Cartel Market.

I'm sure both are equally important. A subscription means at least a temporary monetary commitment and many subs make CM purchases. So subs are very important. But even with inflation, I would not continue to subscribe if they raised the price. There are a lot of things I've stopped buying because of the price increases.

@BRKMSN did identify a better way I was not aware of so that is a nice alternative.  Although, I still would also like a QT point at these camps and I would think it be an easy addition.

Honestly, I would appreciate a few more QT points being added to different areas of the game with this being one. However, Since the swoop event is only 1 week every two months, it wouldn't make sense to have a QT point there the rest of the time. That's probably a big reason why they have not added one. Adding a QT point only during an event may not be as simple as it sounds, unfortunately.  If you look to the Rakghoul event for an example, they didn't add a QT point, but added a temporary "taxi" that drops you off near the spike. Maybe they could do this on Dantooine for the swoop event.

It's an 11-year old game, and we're still paying the equivalent of *two* AAA titles, year over year.

There's a reason EA/BW won't charge fair, flat-rate for the best game they can deliver (whatever that rate may be): It's too customer-friendly.

Predatory monetization is more profitable than good game design, and that leaves us where we're at.

Every single video game is a complete waste of time and money when it comes to providing human needs. People that play video games do so as a form of entertainment or as a hobby. Everybody has to decide for themselves whether or not the price is worth it for the amount of entertainment they receive. Some people just enjoy generally playing the game. Others enjoy maybe just a few aspects of the game. Some people enjoy wasting their money. Some waste their money so they can have more time. Some people appreciate the options afforded by a game that allows you to play and grind for rewards or choose to skip the grind and get the rewards via purchase.

Having been participating in the forums for the duration of this game, I can tell you that people complained about every form of subscriber rewards they have tried. The complaints were always about the rewards being "exclusive" or no longer available. Galactic Seasons is a system that rewards subscribers for actually playing the game, but gives players a chance to acquire old rewards that they missed in the past. On top of that, they created alternate paths to the rewards. We can do the objectives which we get to choose from a weekly list. The length of the season is long enough to allow us to pass on objectives each week or just take a few weeks off if we want. Then they created the credit sink  "catch up" system for people that may have had something come up in real life that prevented them from keeping on pace. Finally, they created a way for impatient people with money to just buy the cosmetics outright. Don't forget that if you miss a season, the rewards will be available again during later seasons. Long story short, this is the best reward system they can have based on the feedback provided in these forums.

I don't understand the purpose of your one-man crusade against Galactic Seasons. I understand people that are underwhelmed with the rewards. I understand the disappointment of people that hoped Season 3 would be as good to them as Season 2 was. I understand not liking change in general. I don't understand why you think that the grown adults that make up a majority of this game's player base will be unable to avoid the temptation of "or Buy now." The people that planned on playing the game will always play the game. The people that have to have instant gratification will spend their money and buy what they want.  Both players will be equally happy.

It's comical to me when a grown adult calls out an industry that is 100% entertainment based for "Predatory monetization." It's even more comical when that player funds the industry, not to mention the particular company he continually calls out for such behavior.

He is still not wrong, if only in that point. The game just has no content at the moment and paying a sub currently is just not worth it. Half the patchnotes changes didn't even work, what does that say about bioware?

Your statement would be more accurate if you said "remaining subbed is not worth it." New content is slowly rolled out now, but there is a ton more content for new players to do now than there was originally. The sub, for new players, is a better value than ever before.

But as I pointed out, real life inflation is real and while we haven't seen a subscription price drop, we haven't seen a hike either, thus the value of the subscription is better today than it was 10 years ago.

Yes after you GET there once.  But each character each time the event goes live you have to travel there to pick up the 1st mission.

Press L - Open conquest tab - find the weekly swoop objective - click "grant mission" - use the quick travel feature.  This will only work on characters that have "been there" before. If you already completed that objective for the day, you can still use the "grant mission" feature from the list of completed objectives.

The value of our subscriptions is under assault.

Since this game released, the price of gasoline has tripled, the price of fast food has doubled, the price of soda has doubled, the price of houses have doubled, the price of used cars has doubled, the price of beef has gone up 60%, etc...

The US$ subscription price for SWTOR has not changed.

There seems to be a problem with catching cheaters in the PVP instance of Imperial Tatooine in the Verath cantina. I was able to catch them in the PVE instance but the scanner thing greyed out in the pvp instance of Tatooine.

It's grayed out when they are not cheating. I've had to wait 3-4 minutes one time for a gambler to begin cheating. Entrapment anybody?

The lowering of CC in replacement of lootboxes was a good decision if they wanted to curb the abuse of people playing on multiple servers. That was enough. This change isn't punishing the multi-server players at all, it is only punishing the players who don't play on all 6 servers every season... so basically everyone.

I don't see how playing GS on multiple servers is "abuse." I actually thought it was a clever way to increase server populations and decrease queue pop time on the less populated servers. It will be interesting to see if this decision does less to inspire players to play more than they typically would.

As for the Kickstart tactical, it probably made certain timed achievements a little too easy.

The kickstart tactical was actually a buff to the user. You could mount, go forward, unmount and mount again right away, repeatedly getting the buff and travel wherever you were going basically at the accelerated speed the entire distance. They decided that was "bad."

Yes, I've noticed they unlock them for free on any character that holds them, but there are way too many sets and I have way too many characters to do it, so I'm just storing them with one character in case I want to use them one day in the outfitter.

That's why I send all mine to one character so I know where to "claim" sets. I have no intention of unlocking them all on every character. But I don't want to waste storage on the stuff either.

  13. 4 hours ago, SteveTheCynic said:

No, you have to simultaneously hold all pieces of a set in the inventory of a character for it to go into collections.  Merely collecting the pieces one at a time and stashing them in storage is not enough.

It didn't seem to me like I had to hold all the pieces simultaneously on these sets. I was credited for individual pieces on incomplete sets and only had to acquire the missing pieces to complete the character unlock. I do believe they need to be in your inventory to get credit, but they can't be moved to a character's cargo hold unless they were at one time in the character's inventory.

edit: to confirm this, I claimed a set from a character that had it unlocked, sent the set to another character that did not have it unlocked. I put the pieces in two separate mails. Claimed the first mail items and put them in the cargo hold. Checked collections and the set was still locked. Claimed the items from the other mail and checked collections and now the set is unlocked for the character. (I used two mails because my first attempt to mail the items to another character saw me habitually "claim all" and defeat the purpose of the test.)

Additionally you have to put them on a character or companion at least once as a full set (which binds them to your legacy and makes the unsellable on the GTN at that point) unless they are already a bound to legacy set.

They weren't talking about Cartel Market sets. They are talking about the alliance crate armor sets which are already BoL which, as you note, don't need to be equipped.

I'm a solo player. I've been playing the game, making characters deleting them and recreating them. mostly trying to figure out what combat style works for me.

It took me months to learn of the of the toggle ignore. In that time and experience. Guilds who blind/ninja/snipe invite only show that they do not care about the quality of the player. they only care about numbers. I even genuinely asked a guild owner about it, because they were bragging about gaining 250 members on the daily like they were earning money off of them. When I asked "Is every one just a number to you?" he didn't even answer. He just got defensive cursed me out blocked me and kicked me from the guild.

It doesn't stop there. I read numerous stories in the Gen chat from former guild officers sharing their horror stories of Guilds blind inviting. Expected to meet a quota, taxing all members resources. Guild owners villainizing any one who stands up to it even go as far as to rob the whole guild bank blind, once they have too many members retaliating to their antics.

Along with that. Majority of character's I create get a blind invite before I can even get to the opening cutscene. And when I do have the toggle ignore invite on. I am instead getting spammed whispers from the very guild recruiters who do the blind invite in the first place. Begging me to toggle it off so they give me the invite again.

These are behaviors that lead me to believe it is the first sign a guild is toxic. IT all leaves me to think about "what if this was a new player to the game?"

My first thought was maybe there should be a min lvl cap. But after the feed back. Other suggestion sound way better than mine. So I'm no longer stuck on the said lvl cap any more. But I do believe there need to be deterrent for the unneeded stress of shady guilds like this.

So I am not part of any guild. I care about player rights. I want to play the game in peace. Maybe some day I will join a guild. But if I do. I want to know that I'm valued part of their team, not a number. The blind invites are getting old and very disrespectful, as well as rude.

    change my mind.

you want to know the motivation behind this post. Well there it is.

    Thank you for your explanation.

I, too, am a solo player. I have about 85 characters on the two US servers I can honestly say that I have never experienced any nightmares regarding guilds. On one server, about 3 or 4 years ago, I had some relatives that were getting into the game so we created an Imp guild and a Pub guild on that server. I also created a F2P account on that server to help with guild things like "self-invites." I do recommend that you create your own guild so you won't feel bothered by whisper invites. On the server where I haven't created a guild, none of my characters are in a guild and I don't have ignore invites enabled. I simply decline the invites as they happen and if someone follows up with a whisper invite, I don't bother responding. Nobody is mad or offended and I keep doing whatever it is I am doing. It's a pretty nightmare free approach.

Some of your response is just general guild criticism and has really nothing to do with invites. That's another reason why you should consider asking a couple people to help you make a private guild. You'll also be able to invade planets (if you purchase a guild ship) and earn more rewards from conquest. My advice, though, when it comes to getting guild invites one way or another, simply don't waste your time if you have no interest.

Be that as it may, it should be that if it's unlocked account-wide, it should be transferrable.

It would have to be bound to legacy to be transferrable. If they made Cartel Market items bound to legacy, people would never have to pay for account unlocks. I understand your sentiment, but this is the way things need to be to avoid exploits (we saw this with crystals many years ago).  Fortunately, we have weapon slots on outfitter now and should have received plenty of BoL weapons we can use to move things without having to worry about what they look like.

You're not paying attention to the conversation. Even you made valid points why the lvl cap should not be so.

Instead it seems the consensus is leaning more towards defaulting the ignore invite instead. people are presenting valid point why this would work much better.

I'm paying attention. I, like others, am just curious what the motivating factor is behind this request. Guilds that invite new players on starter planets know that some of these players are completely new. If a player accepts the invite, that player may have questions about the game that guild members can answer.  The guild should expect this because of their recruiting method.

    You stated:

    Quote

For one the guild blind invites are ridiculous and overly spammy. New players have no idea what they are getting into. Blind invites from guilds are the first sign that the guild is toxic and there is a horrid habit of Guilds are trying to sniper invite new coming characters, before they even have a chance to toggle that ignore invite off. Also new players have no idea of the toggle ignore guild invites.

In addition once a character reaches lvl 10 they should get a notification explaining what guilds are and provided the options to always ignore guild invites or leave themselves open to bombardment of invites from guilds. The guilds the do the spam invites don't care about your boundaries. And I've heard about the nightmares players go through dealing with those kind of guilds. it's shady and needs to stop.

    Addressing each point:

Blind invites can happen at any level if you are not in a guild and don't have "ignore guild invites" enabled. Level caps won't stop this or help.

New players may not know anything about certain guilds, but pretty much anybody that can read a popup and click accept understands what joining a guild means.

Guilds that blindly invite un-guilded players are probably less picky than those that don't, but they are trying to grow which is what guilds are supposed to do. I don't see how this is an indicator of toxicity.

I seriously doubt guilds are racing to entice new players before they can learn about the "ignore invites" feature.

There's probably an extremely small percentage of players that would have no idea there's a feature to ignore various types of invites. Anybody that has played any other social game before would know to look for such a feature if they find a particular thing to be annoying.

Who doesn't know what guilds are? This doesn't need to be explained in a popup.

Finally, what nightmares are players experiencing here?

So whenever I find a topic like this, I always wonder what motivated the OP to make their suggestion. Often, it turns out to be a lesser guild trying to handicap a more successful guild that employs different recruiting tactics. More specifically, it is usually because of Conquest.

I wouldn't make a level cap nor would I default any "ignore feature" to "on" at the beginning.

They could make the confirmation message upon joining more helpful by explaining that you can leave a guild later by typing: /gquit. Everything else is self explanatory.

Guess we will have to agree to disagree then. To me all of those are basic and the only luxury cosmetics and yellow augments to a slight degree. As i recall last time i transfer a character and tried to learn the biochem reusables i spent 3 hours gathering mats, got bored and ended up buying the materials to level biochem and then trying to learn reusables or purple grade items and spent 3b credits to not learn any reusable and ended up just buying the reusables of the gtn.

To me specifically the prices barely affect me, just the slight inconvinence that if i want something i ask in trade because gtn has barely anything anymore. I don't even know where to save credits anymore.

But at the end of the day if nothing is done also for the new players everyone can keep their billions on their pocket and without an influx of new players the game population turns to dust. I don't know who would want to stay around in a game with a messed up economy

The biggest problem is that players keep whining about the player to player trade inflation. Bioware's go-to fix is to nerf credit rewards again. I remember really enjoying conquest during 6.0. There wasn't a lot of new content rolling out, but conquest was rewarding and it kept me doing a lot of things. Now that they removed the extra credit and XP awards, conquest has lost it's appeal and for the first time since launch, I'm considering other games (or alternatives) for my free time.

The bottom line is that games need to feel rewarding to play. Like others, I feel a massive move to devalue or remove credits without the implementation of credit sinks would lead me to quit. My sub hasn't lapsed since the game launched. I understand with gearing, the system has to be overhauled every so often and we basically have to start from scratch with a new system at a new max level. But credits have been a staple throughout all the changes within the game. If they take away what I have built up, I won't be starting over.  Any new player just starting out is very unlikely to plan to be subbed for 10 years. If the game caters to the players that just arrived and feel the game just isn't fun unless they look a little bit cooler, then they'll be selling out to a portion of gamers that don't subscribe for long. It would be one of the dumbest business decisions a company can make.

I have all full sets stored on one alt's cargo bay. I have no intention to use cartel coins to unlock them in collections, and I'm also too lazy to check out that character's cargo every time I'm looking for a new outfit. However I might buy duplicates with credits, if they were available on a vendor.

If you have the full sets in a character's cargo hold, then they are already in collections for that character. You can delete them from your cargo hold and claim the full sets on that character whenever you need them. The sets bind to legacy and can be moved to another character. If you are just keeping them around to preview them, they can be previewed from any character by previewing armor sets in collections. In other words, there is no reason to use storage space unless the sets haven't yet been completely unlocked on at least one character.

  19. Several years ago, they reversed the Claim all items and delete all items checkboxes in mail. After deleting things a couple times accidentally and contacting CS one of those times, I eventually got used to the new format.  Being aware of the credit cap wasn't an issue until the last couple years. It's kind of crazy right now to "claim all" when you know you had listings at the capped limit.

Regarding your complaint (about the current system), I believe a simple popup Confirmation / Notification would be sufficient.

The item(s) you are claiming in the mail will cause you to exceed the player credit cap. [Claim anyway] or [Cancel action].

  20. As soon as a new player joins a guild, they start benefitting from the guild bonuses and perks. Once again, the current system is fine. There should never be a level requirement to join a guild unless the guild sets that as its own requirement. Don't recruit noobs if you don't think it's right. Other guilds can do whatever they see fit to do. I always wonder whenever I see topics like this if this is one of those bigger guilds that just can't quite win an invasion in Conquest because of a mega-guild that recruits on starter planets.

  21. The current system is fine the way it is. We don't need a level requirement for guilds. Some new players might enjoy having and using the guild perks from the start. Popup messages are self explanatory and a player can quit a guild as fast as they can join. There's nothing wrong with making suggestions. But creating dramatic reenactments for the purpose of persuasion is manipulative. Is a guild toxic just because it invites someone? Is it less toxic if it waits for that player to hit level 10? Are we pretending there's a guy in a van enticing children with the promise of candy?
