  1. The reason why these attacks are "instant" hit or miss, and not a calculated trajectory, is due the simple fact that it takes quite some resources to perform these calculations.

If you want a good example of how this works and the resources required, try playing Supreme Commander. This game calculates each individual unit movement and fired shot to determine if something gets hit by something. The demand of resources on systems is quite huge. So big in fact that PIV CPU simply freezes up after 30 mins of game play. Dual Core were the absolute minimum to play this game online even. And it's already several years old.

As for the "dice" factor, this is a basic math algorithm relying on one or more "random" variables to mimic chance. I'm quoting the random here because there is no such thing as a truly randomly generated number on a computer. They always come from a fixed table, what you decide is the entry point in that table.

But the hit and miss is just a basic formula (wel basic.....) that relies on your stats and the opponent's stats, including some integral calculations to determine the result. Then this result is matched against a random range.

So basically if the entire calculation comes up with 0.7 for example, indicating you have 70% chance to hit, then the system would generate the random number. if the number falls between 0 and 0.7 you would score a hit, otherwise a miss.

  2. Tbh, dont pay attetion to these people or posts.

There will always be people that complain about everything and rant about how things are bad, unfair or whatever.

If you are having fun in the game, then that is all that matters.

  3. Am I missing something or are we the only healing class that has no combat ressurection at the moment? Our team is just starting with the hard modes and we often get our butts kicked on these enounters.

The reason why we wipe is because our interupter for example dies and we cannot ressurect him during combat....

Is this an oversight perhaps on the class design, or do we as mercenary have some kind of advantage in healing that others do not have?

  4. Oh dear. You guys actually want the "I am a complete Fanboy" gift?

For one would not use the items if I was given them as I would not want to be associated with the mindless fanboy crowd.

This will likely end up being "Look, there is a fanboy with the xxxxxx title! Quick, Gank him!". Then again I do play on a PvP server..

Feel free to hunt me down, i'll simply go "ROCKET TO THE FACE" on you.

I don't get how you conclude we're a fanboy tbh. I'm paying for this game, so I just want what i'm entitled to.

  5. You shouldn't have been charged yet for your first 90 days after the first 30 free that came included with purchase price.

So you should be very safe.

This is what my account says :

You have 0 days of play time remaining. When your play time runs out, you will be billed automatically.

You are subscribed to a 90 day recurring plan.

You will be billed on 01.19.2012.

We have a VISA ending in XXXX expiring XX/XXXX on file.

To extend your play time, you can also redeem a Game Time Code.

  6. I've read the requirements to get selected for this founder title, but does the system keep in mind past transactions as well, or does it only look at new transactions starting now?

I have a 90 days recurring payment plan and the next billing date is way behind March, and the initial payment is way before this action got announced, so my question:

Will the system look at all payments made, or only new ones starting now?

    If the latter, i'm screwed...

  7. Sigh, know anything about hardware? Or about how AMD cards (they're not called ATI any more, haven't been for a while) run a lot cooler than NVidia cards? Or how GPU for GPU on relative cards the AMD cards are much more efficient, give higher performance, and their crossfire and tri-fire set ups destroy NVidia cards in every single benchmark test available?

I'm not an AMD fan or an NVidia fan, I had NVidia before this card and AMD now... because I did a lot of research and AMD cards are vastly improved.

NVidia fan boys need to do some research before they talk rubbish about cards.

I'll stick to my personal experience and what actually works, regardless of what a benchmark setup says.

  8. Can't say that I disagree. I played SWG since launch, and the vast exploration options are what kept me playing till the servers were closing down. Although swTOR has a vast universe to explore as well, you're still confined to alot of things, and as you said you'll only visit the planets during the leveling.

There's the bonus series and class quests that often take you back to several planets, but it's only for short trips, and in my oppinion this is a bit lacking.

There's probably alot of things they could have salvaged from SWG, beast handling pops to mind here, but this is swTOR and we'll have to make due with what we have at the moment.

  9. Game runs really smooth while playing on a planet, slightly suffering from loading times, but nothing to get stressed over. I'm playing on 1600 * 1200 resolution with all settings on high/max.

    Windows 7 x64 Professional

    Asus P5W HD Deluxe MainBoard

Intel Core 2 Duo 6400 'Conroe' 2.6Ghz, OC till 3.2Ghz

    4GB DDR2 800Mhz Corsair RAM

3 x 250 GB WD Black Caviar disks

    GigaByte 460 GTX

    average FPS : 45 - 60

The rest is not relevant I think.

  10. shut up, download the patch and play.

People complain about bugs, then they complain about the maintenance, now they complain about bugs beeing fixed. It's never good for some people and it never will be.

If you cannot handle MMO releases, please unsub now and come back in 3-4 months, then all these things will be gone and you can start whining about how hard it is to get gear, how hard it is to get into operations and how unbalanced PvP is.

on second though, don't come back if that's your plan.

  11. Actually yes I am. Writing a program takes time yes, but once written adding code and debugging does not take much time at all, unless there is a serious serious issue affecting every area of your code in which case you would probably be better off with a rewrite using a different structure.

And unless you code yourself you have no idea of its difficulty or speed and cant really make a comment like that now can you.

Coding is simple like learning a different language once you understand it and how it works its not hard. Especially if your the one that wrote the code for the software from the ground up. It does not take long to see an error in your software and be like oh I know where that is go in and inspect the code and its links to other code.

Please stop...you're just making yourself look ridiculous.

Writing scripts in python (YES sCRIPTS!) for plugins on 3D programs is not programming. You have similar concepts, but writing a full blown application that covers millions of lines is totally different then what you're doing.

    As stated many times before:

if you don't work on games, shut up please, cause you're clueless on how it works in the industry.

And before you flame me, yes I do work on games.

  12. you really need to blow up all the turrets on the frigates before entering the meteor belt. These are the "hidden turrets" firing upon the vessel when flying through the asteroids.

If you take out the turrets before that (which is cake with 80 missiles) you should escape the belt without around 50-60% health left on the ship. Which should be sufficient to survive the initial wave of blaster fire and safely reach the carrier.

  13. I just wanted to list out some issues that I've been noticing in game, wonder if you guys feel the same way. This is coming from my experience of playing WoW since release. My point of view is also from a lvl 37 mercenary BH (I play as DPS). Some of these annoyances are minor, but they all still make me facepalm.

    1. Can't abandon a few specific quests, but seeing as how there's a limit of 25, I can see this as a potentially big problem. If this is a feature of the quests, holy hell is it a dumb feature. Bug fix hopefully?

    2. Can't hide my companion's helmet like I can with my own character. Why was this not implemented? Oversight? It's such a similar concept

    3. I tried healing throughout my leveling process and I have to say I think it's a lot more difficult than healing in WoW. I've noticed that unless I start healing from the very start of the battle, it is nearly impossible to "catch up" in heals unless some awesome simultaneous CC takes place, but then my heat goes too high and the rest of the battle sucks. I also feel as though our healing arsenal isn't very robust, you have a few skills to work with and none of them are that good, especially our "AOE" heal. Maybe this changes at 50? Just feel like playing a healer is difficult in this game.

    4. Does it annoy anyone else that when questing you meet up with different level of mobs? You go from the easy to aoe down groups of 3-5, to the 1 silver guy that is just annoying to kill because he doesn't count as a lesser mob. I just don't like this system. I do a lot of solo questing and when I see these silver guys, they are just annoying. I just tank the damage with my companion healing me and dps. They just waste my time

    5. Why.. why do I get dismounted after one lousy laser blast? I didn't think I would get angry at this game so early in its launch, but this already has me cursing at my computer screen.

    6. The respawn time for certain areas, especially caves, is annoyingly short. On several occasions, I'd spend 15 minutes clearing a cave to the end for a quest, only to turn around and be staring at the newly spawned mobs, forcing me to clear another 15 minutes worth of trash that I've already completed and no longer benefits me.

That's all I can think of right now.

TLDR.. then press the back button on your browser and go look at something else. I enjoyed typing my thoughts out, don't care if you read them or not.

    3. Definitly a problem on your side. I'm playing a mercenary healer, and have no issues whatsoever keeping a full group alive when they accidently pull 2 big groups in heroic missions. it's just getting used to your class mechanics and proper combination of abilities. You should read the descriptions as some abilities become powerfull when combined.

    4. it's an MMROPG, by definition a group game. You can do stuff solo, but then don't complain that it becomes too hard.

    5. because they blow up your glider. How fast it happens depends on your level and the mob.

    6. Yeah well, again its based for a group. If you run through and everyone else on the same quest has to wait another 15mins to complete it, they'll drop it. So in order for everyone to get a chance, respawn times are fast. If you're skilled enough you can blaze through without getting trapped in a respawn wave.

  14. is out our Bioware's hands, because it's the community...

So far I see nothing but rants on these boards, with sometimes valid points; but absolutely no feedback or positive criticism....

what is today's gaming community evolving into...?
