I only skimmed through the entire thread but overall I have to agree with the OP. I play both melee and ranged dps.
Although melee is completely viable, in general there doesn't seem to be significant advantages in terms of individual dps to bring a melee dps vs ranged dps. Keep in mind though that melee can bring good utility in the form of raid debuffs, raid buffs, taunts, other utilities like predation/transcendence, defensives and group defensives (like absorb shields) that ranged could lack.
In my eyes that alone makes the score at least even on 2 of the current bosses (sparky/master blaster)..so maybe 10 to 2
