More serious responses eh? I like this, I like this a lot... Well let me tell you something Arlanon, your job is not to stand around as a guard, your job involves a lot more than pressing 1 button then barking orders at the rest of the team. You're not running around or deserting people, so that's really good of you, but that's only one rule your following and you need to follow them all so that your team can do the happy victory dance at the end of the match.

It means something to me Haystak, it means something to me... like when I play my operative and I exfiltrate around the map for things such as touchdowns or node capping. I call it the Rickroll because of how useful the ability is. But please, let me PVP these other people that are offering serious responses because I am getting a great deal of entertainment from it.

Trolls are for fantasy games, you guys need to re-calibrate your droids. Seriously... losing me in your explanations. What is so hard to grasp about pvp?

Can you please educate me? I want to learn the Hexagon of combat so that I may share the strategy with the galaxy.

Why thank you Marshmallow, I think I did a pretty darn good jorb with this. To the rest of you posters... we just PVP'd and you lost. If you others spent more time thinking and less time groping your online persona, you might have stood a chance. Sadly, you have fallen prey to my advice and might possibly forever be tainted by it for the sole reason that you might not want to follow the rules of PVP. I tell you this because I care. THIS IS FOR YOUR BENEFIT NOT MINE

Thank you RaptorClown, it means a great deal to me that people understand this message. Please, the next time you PVP, chant the 6 rules for me so this message can be spread throughout the galaxy!

    6 Rules of PVP

I've developed this thread to provide a complete overview of the 6 most important things EVERY player should consider when engaging in player versus player combat. These guiding "rules" will ensure that many a great match occurs when those involved in said match, follow the rules. Rule 1: Never give up This rule is really quite simple, when the going gets rough... you need to get rougher. It might seem completely hopeless when you're down to 100 health and have 5 enemies hot on your trail, but giving up only ensures the enemy gets another kill. I've seen it far too many times where someone whom is almost dead is healed to full within a matter of seconds. Every precious second that you spend delaying the enemy from achieving objectives further ensures the win. Amazing comebacks can be experienced when the entire team snaps out of the daze and pays attention to what's happening around them. Sometimes it takes a swift kick in the face (such as 3 fast Huttball touchdowns by the enemy withing 2 minutes) to snap a team into coordinating. Just don't become apathetic to your surroundings, every second counts even though things might seem hopeless during some of those seconds. A focused mind, leads to enlightenment. Rule 2: Never let down This rule is no more complicated than the last, don't let your team mates down by doing really counter-productive things. A great example is fighting away from the doors in void star when you're defending. We all know because it is as plain as day, that when you are defending an objective, defense is more important than offense. Although it may be tempting to chase that sage who's at half health back towards enemy spawn point, you would be doing your team an injustice because the door is more important than your kill count. Fighting in the pit instead of moving with the ball in Huttball is another prime example of this, but I don't think that it's really important to stress the importance of not doing counter-productive things in Warzones. Rule 3: Never run around or desert Knowing that your team is counting on you to not be bad, you will surely know to not run around on the map aimlessly searching for a fight. It's so frustrating to your team when you get selfish and just start strolling around the map looking for a fight. Stick to the objectives, those are what wins matches, not kills. If you want a serious fight then you want ranked pvp because it's the only death match type PVP you can queue for consistently. Don't desert any match either. It might not be your preferred warzone, but warzones should not be abandoned solely for the fact that you want something else. Stick it out to the end, the various maps offer a lot of variety and when you learn to appreciate the unique aspects of each map, you really start to maximize your enjoyment of fighting other players because you're not stuck playing the same thing over and over an over and over.... Rule 4: Never make someone cry I can't stress enough how much being a total jerk to other players destroys PVP effectiveness. The time you spend typing non-battle related things eats into your effectiveness. While you were busy calling out someone for being bad, the enemy capped our objectives... thanks jerk that's on you too for not being a team player. People take their skill level seriously enough that while you think you're having a jolly old time berating someone, on the other end they may be so offended that they burst into tears from your slander. Be mindful of others, you would be extremely surprised to see the skill level people can develop when you work with and mold them into the clay shape you want them to be. You need to observe the whole match, not what one person is doing, one person means nothing unless it's down to 1v1 arena so just relax and work with the group. It's a team game and if you can't manage a team, don't expect it to be effective. Rule 5: Never say goodbye Some people get so infuriated by PVP that they up and stop PVPing at all! They go so far as to say that the situation is so unbalanced that they simply can't play the game anymore. Don't let yourself get to this.... this is Star Wars, this is The Old Republic. You remember that don't you? You remember playing KTOR right? What are you doing saying that you're going to quit playing a game that you love and dream about in your deepest hours. It's completely illogical and a result of nothing more than frustration felt because you didn't follow rules 1 through 4. It's important that you follow ALL of the rules, you are not the god of PVP and you do not set the rules. When you walk the path laid before you, you become endowed with combat preparedness and will achieve ultimate victory. Rule 6: Never tell a lie Don't troll... man it is just that simple. Do NOT troll you team. If you've got 3 people defending snow and 5 people trying to cap mid so you can win the civil war, don't call out "INC GRASS" because seriously it is not funny. People actually try to win matches and pay attention to what the team is doing. If you can't follow this rule then PVP is not for you. You might find yourself at home with a PVE guild that roleplays as internet trolls but you will be promptly and swiftly booted from any PVP guild that wants to win anything. It's not funny, just tell the truth about what's going on. I know it's a little exposing to admit that you can't handle a 1v1 but swallow your pride and call out when you need help. Your team is there to help you win the match, but if you're too busy stroking your epeen to pay attention to the match, they're not going to come when you cry "wolf" Lies hurt your team and you should only want to hurt your enemy, not your team. So in conclusion... these are the 6 rules of PVP. Henceforth, I expect all players to abide by the law as it it written. I want to see a day when we as a playerbase can unite and say to each other every time we enter a match together the 6 rules... Never gonna give you up Never gonna let you down Never gonna run around and desert you Never gonna make you cry Never gonna say goodbye Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you
  12. Capture the flag pvp is oftentimes stale in games, Huttball has an exciting map and you can pass the flag. Passes are where it's at.
  13. In my opinion you should play whatever is the most fun to you. When you enjoy your class, you will contribute regardless of what class you pick. Personally I prefer the operative healer, I played a lot as a merc healer in the beginning, but I find the instant casts of the operative much more useful than what a merc can bring to the table. I've never tried sorc healing simply because I really don't enjoy inquisitors as a class having made an assassin and being pretty unimpressed by it.
  14. This is exactly the technique that I used to teach people over a year ago when I was really serious about this game. I recently resubscribed and am actually surprised to hear your experience, that this hasn't become standard practice for PVP-oriented guilds. Sounds like once I've gotten back into the full-swing of the game again I'll have some more teaching to do. Kudos to you for trying to help people, not enough people understand this particular control.
  15. The biggest thing in PVP in my opinion is knowing the classes, what they can do and how to counter them. Just like learning raid bosses, you need to learn how the classes can hurt you or be hurt. The best way to know a class is to play one of each, but that's very time consuming. You can get a good handle on all the classes just by playing a single class though, it's not as structured, but it gets the job done. Line of sight is crucial in PVP as well, making sure you're visible to your healers will allow them to avoid wasting time and get their job done. On the flip side of the coin, using the terrain to avoid getting hit by your enemies helps massively in fights. Other than these things, the rest is really just common sense stuff like knowing the match mechanics, learning the maps etc... Also, don't get frustrated when you're not winning. Losing your cool is an easy way to ensure the enemy will have an even easier time taking you down.
