  1. Disagreeing with the OP and just throwing points out there that are not valid is annoying to read. "Sometimes the cast bar bugs and continues to show casting even if you've interrupted something". Saying something that makes you sound right yet has no point due to what the OP has already clarified and then continuing to state "you are wrong" in another post... o.O yes the cast bar bugs out, but your just ignoring the other stated facts. "I just tabbed back into the game, and cast Master's Strike on an Imperial Sharpshooter on Ilum. He was stunned. Works fine" Proves nothing... I wont even begin to start on half the other things said in this thread. You all make it sound like he is doing something wrong lmao I have also had many encounters with master strike not doing what it is supposed to. As well as my target using MULTIPLE skills on me while he is supposed to be stunned. Even then its not really a stun, its more of an immobilize for a few seconds and the skill description should reflect that. Also stuns are supposed to interrupt right? every other stun I've used interrupts casting and animations, so why does master strike not 100% of the time?
  2. You know what would be handy and make our class look cool? An AOE TOT (threat over time) generation skill that allows us to stand there like a meatshield and block, parry, defelct etc... with the animations and we look uber doing doing it We would only have to focus on using our stuns, buffs and debuffs to stay alive rather then DMG output haha. (this is of course in a group heroic situation, also I'm not being 100% serious, it is just a creative idea)
  3. You probably already know most of what I said before. Otherwise if you are used to single target tanking then I don't see what the problem could be? If the scoundrel can dish out dmg like that then I don't think you'll have to worry about pulling the mob of him/her. the mob wont last long enough to kill the scoundrel at that rate IMHO
  4. yeah you most likely are to be honest. We all did at some point lol. Basically in SW the tank game is a little different then normal. here are some pointers. -Target the mob boss as your main priority, dish out debuffs and and DPS on him only. -do not try to tank several mobs at once you will never keep the aggro until higher levels. -allow your team mates/companion to burn off and CC the lesser mobs while you focus on the mob boss. -Pull mobs of the healer/DPS with your aggro skills when needed. otherwise leave them to get on with burning the lesser mobs. and that's about it really. I'm guessing you are like me and used to tanking everything in the room while rotating your aggro skills and being spamm healed?
  5. Oh I see, I never got that memo haha. IMHO that seems a little out of any Game dev's reach in the current MMO world Thanks for the info, shines a light on so many issues people are talking about right now for me.
  6. For TOR we are mainly focusing our aggro skills on the mob boss for the majority of the fight (as I am sure you know) especially at my lv (19) as I lack AOE aggro skills or decent AOE's. I personally feel it would be safer to bring the break away* back to you with force pull and dish out a stun or hard hitting skill to generate some threat then use the aggro skill you would of used to maintain threat on the mob boss. Two birds with one stone and no risky business. But that's just how I play, my team mates always come first *The scenario being that the healer has pulled and you know he/she will not be able to cope with the mob for very long and your DPS is busy with CC and/or burning another mob.
  7. So what your suggesting to be true is that no class was designed to excel at heal or tank? unlike 99% of MMO's that exist? Because that is what I was suggesting from the start of this little discussion. Perhaps that context got misplaced somewhere? apologies.
  8. I understand that, but I'm sure you know that I just meant each class has its own inherent role. Tank, DPS, Heal. it's just possible to hybrid easily like you said with the talent trees. But were getting off topic anwyays...
  9. haha I'm just going by what bioware says so I don't sound too opinionated. They use the word "tank" in there class description so that's simply what I call it to make life easier.
  10. You misunderstood what I Meant. If a mob breaks away from you its more efficient in my eyes to force pull him back and save your aggro skills from unnecessary cool downs. I agree that force leap is the best way to close a gap to begin with but you don't want to be dragging several mobs over to your healer when one of them breaks away especially if you put some effort into your positioning. Hope that cleared up what I imeant?
  11. I cant give much advice on PVP etc... but I must say that is quite the DPS tree spec for a tanking class o.O I cant help but feel you would have been better off choosing a DPS class or is that just me? I'm a Jedi guardian myself on the PVP channels and have not yet ventured into PVP (only lv19).
  12. I agree with this... I'm a lv 19 JG yet i have zero skills that make any use of "the force" with my hands (which is iconic to SW what ever way you look at it). Also Tanks need to stay in close proximity to all their targets, there is not a more efficient way to achieve that and keep your team mates at a safe distance then using a force pull. /Signed
  13. I'm only a lv 19 JG, but i have been having similar issues to what you described, the remedy for me was to change my play style. The tank game is pretty standard across most mmo's, but in this game tanking is not about keeping every mob on you for the whole duration of the fight using aggro skills (or so it would seem). You can read a thread I started discussing the same problems you are having with lots of helpful tips and advice on these issues from the community and a conclusion from me at the end here http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=165772
  14. Thanks for all the reply's people, some great insight there I've changed my tactics a fair amount since I made this thread and have seen results. I think the main issue was that I'm used to a different kind of tanking e.g. Keeping all mobs on me as effectively as possible while rotating AOE's to keep the aggro without having to use as many high aggro generating skills. That works in 90% of mmo's I have played. but that's the problem star wars does not play like all those other games. As many of you have said my job is to tank/debuff the mob boss and pull the other mobs when needed, which is quite different when you are used to controlling everything in the room with your aggro skills. I recently did a run through a heroic (fall of the locust) without understanding how the jedi/sith CC's are imba in this game (seriously crowd control that lasts a whole minute!) and it all went **** up because my AOE's kept breaking the CC's. At first i didn't realize i was doing that because no one said they were going to be CCing and i was determined to get all the mobs on me to protect the DPS and healer. Of course that got us all killed several times, i got told i suck, blocked and ignored and told that i should learn how to play mmo's, which kinda got to me a bit seeing as ive been playing for years. That run was doomed from the start though as there was little to no communication, I was expected to know what each marker meant without being told and they were all quite impatient :/ But after meeting with some new players today (a WoW veteran and two pug's who were very willing to listen and learn... which was odd, but great!) the run was really smooth. i took the lead role as a stereo typical tank and used the markers to designate CC and burn targets and make sure everyone knew what they were doing and it was really enjoyable So thank you for all the insight and advice everyone, it really helped. I'm now enjoying this game more then ever
  15. Hi everyone, I'm new to the game of swtor and have been playing for about 3 days now. I have quite a lot of experience playing MMO's and the various combat roles tank, DPS, healer etc... My most common role in MMO's is a tank or a healer and I do a pretty good job of tanking in the majority of games I play, but after a few heroics I've noticed that tanking with a Jedi guardian seems to be quite different and somewhat more difficult then most tank classes I have played on different games. In my honest opinion threat generation seems messed up and the class itself seems to lack the skills to manage threat effectively. I'm only lv 19 so obviously I do not have experience with any higher tier skills yet, but the skills guardians are given in the first 20 levels do not seem to aid tanking very well... just a few debuffs, one AOE skill and some very inconspicuous CC skills (They really do not help to control very much in my opinion except one or two maybe) the rest are DPS skills that eat your focus like no tomorrow. So is it just me or is the Jedi guardian class a little "off" for effective tanking at the moment? (Skills aside the stats for guardians are great I can take on 5+ mobs one after the other without having to heal or rest in between, talk about meat shield! )
