  1. This needs to be an extended PVE/PVP storyline that put the hero's from the light and dark side on missions as fighters in a Hutt centered arena conflict that is part of a larger story. It is a wink wink between competitors looking to gain an understanding of what the Hutts are up too.It could be fun with matches having certain make up of classes for betting purposes or the chance to eliminate specific players at certain levels of play. The Hutts arenas are separate from all empire and republic traditional battles, but both of those groups have more question marks concerning the hutts versus each other. It makes enough sense for a quick storyline, and it could work fairly well for more extended/complex mechanics in the story /game play.
  2. up until 5 years ago I owned 90% of the books and graphics novels that were part of the extended lore. Given this history the game is pretty close. The issue is the numbers of powerful non force users in a PVP zone. These folks exist in the universe, but not in the same ratio for this game. This issue exist in many online games including historic one like War Thunder. The game need s to exist too, so they make changes to make the their mode work. It is kinda like forgiving a movie for omitting facts from books to fit the media. The Republic Commandos series shows how Mercs can be so good, but we just see the in game changes along with weird balance issues. If you are looking strictly at the fil releases, yes this game is not true to the material. The timeline this game is in comes from the Dark Horse Comics releases and previous games based on that.
  3. As per previous AMEN BUT sometimes leaving allows you to get out of sync with better players. Kinda like sherman burning Atlanta, not fair but effective.
  4. I know that if you can recognize premades, you can get out of sync with them if you leave early enough. IF you leave early and re-sync with them it is a good time to switch to their faction or go PVE. Yes this goes against everything I value in competition and life in general, but it is also a valid mechanic for winning that is in the game. This is also the mechanic of pre-mades in solo Q. One good turn etc etc.
  5. I found when I came back I had many characters at lvl 50 with old pvp relics, but the augment slots would take the newer level Augs and they activated in War zones. I know about the other crystals, but this may add to some of the stats being seen. PS With the low pops and the current bolster I do not feel like I want or need to grind the better gear if I work on knowing how to work bolster and play the class.
  6. MM is one the best specs for damage and is very playable at many levels. The BEST thing is It actually feels like a sniper in that the better your positioning the better your shooting. Yes it is tanky and can actually even be near the front. The Finnish sniper in WW2 with the high kill count used a sub machine gun for many kills and German snipers could also deploy with a semi auto for certain missions. I guess my main point is I feel more like a sniper than I feel like a Jedi or Mandalorian Merc when I play the character and it does not hurt my performance.
  7. Agree with the sins wanting their ability back
  8. I think folks see this to literally. Being canonized does not mean it did or did not exist. I think most fans will see that there are different styles and levels of depth. I also have a feeling Disney would be really stupid to not re-print the original books if the franchise does not die out over time. Comic books have had to deal with different universes for some time. I think it is a sign of a mature sci-fi universe with critical thinkers instead of true believers as fans.
  9. This is what Merc used to be. If you got a chance they died, but mostly they chased you around while your teammates tried to kill them. This was about a 4 year year cycle with PT having at least one great spec and sometimes 2 good dps specs. If the game last it will flip back, but having a class that you really enjoy and know how to function in with some extra work is a good badge to wear unless you are going for the top 20% of comp players (are there that many to make this a valid number).
  10. In PVP the positioning could be hindered by players latency/old tech and the possibility or accusation of hacking. Most of the time it was an extra wide gap between the mediocre and best players that does not exist with the "auto target" standards of the game. I am sure it is less pronounced in PVE but still exists, especially in group finder when you need somebody to hit for something. I like the way that they did not remove, but modified it so folks are not left holding the bag. I personally shell out the money for a decent machine and connection and live below the poverty line, but we do need folks staying in the game to get both PVP and PVE groups together. I personally have a sin and a merc because I for other reasons they are either top or bottom (no pun) at different times, but always fun to play.
  11. I have to second this. I have come back after a yearish off. I used to be pretty worried 75% of the time to just flat out being killed when somebody came out of stealth and saw sap capping as counting coup by a pro. Unfortunately I see sometimes 2 stealth at nodes with one guard just mezzing folks to troll. I have seen some incredible stealth folks, but not so much recently. Thank you for the effort. Maybe we can show them how to make a simple key bind to shift target, apply a taunt and shift back. I used to see any stealth combo with a sin apply this hurt too.
  12. Have acid start earlier by 1-2min with a 30 sec warning, but do less damage and cause folks to come out of stealth (or knock folks out of stealth after 15-20 sec so they can surprize). I would also be for a stealth cooldown even if not in combat if they stayed in stealth for more than 30sec-1min during match. I know computer games attract passive aggressive folks who can not fight in the real world, but do not allow this in arenas.
  13. The whole game in stealth, and not node guarding or even selfish dueling. (sa mentioned) I really want to start being the jock bully and mention the fat kid in the basement who never got picked for real sports.

    Rip pt

Well a few years ago I had to change from mecr to PT. Well I have whichever one I chose when the pendulum swings. It is never fair, just roll with it.
  15. I play what is fun and what is OP. I have always loved Merc and was moderate decent as a solo, but I had to become a sniper a few years back to have the same basic function but be a benefit to a team. Sniper got nerfed, but now both are now in the tops. I can not play a mara or sin unless it is solo and ftm. That is just me. I have learned Juggs and PT when they were FOTM and will probably keep with Juggs. I could care less about wearing a skirt and playing a sorc in this game. It is just me. If I had to heal it would probably be on a Merc unless it was a team and I was voted to. I really need to spend some time as heals and tank. Mercs juggs and snipers are what are fun for me, and sooner or later one will be at top. I do love playing DCDs and being able to change game movement at that time. I do recommend getting to know other specs especially if they are in the top tier, This makes playing favorites easier.
  16. first NO WIFI or wireless devices then no shared connections with others watching movies or downloading then check to see if your other components are recommended/tested by mother board I Spent about $100 us more on an asus system 3 years ago with entry level high end stuff that was tested together and it runs gorgeous even today. The SSD really makes a difference for loading in times. buying stuff over time is a BIG gamble.
  17. I love all mandos. Mercs and Pts. Just have both in the stable because they are either OP or bottom of barrel, but still fun as hell. Just use which one is at top ATM or play what is mo fun if solo.
  18. I just re-sub and am going from 60 up. The instant heals are being used as fillers when I am running and do not want to use a "real" dcd. The funny thing is they are working like my other dcds. It is kinda sad when I do not even need to use a stun and then heal or kite. I love this class and do not feel dirty playing it, but payback's a bantha.
  19. I left Harb over a year and a half ago because you had mains on one side with alt on the other faction and 5-20 folks in the know jumping sides to take advantage of the nubs who wanted to play for fun. The fewer the folks in Q the easier it is to let a few folks control the outcome. IE If you know that there are no folks in ranked group Q and the smaller faction has nobody in Q, jump to your alt and have your newest guildie Q on the other side. This is not rocket science. It is really folks who never got picked for real sports.
  20. I have been playing merc since the beginning. I was allowed to play the spec in groups until we got 4v4 and that was a no go. I figure the nerfs will come in the 1-2 years it took for them to nerf Maras and Sorcs or maybe we should wait the 2-3 years it took to hit operative heals. It is kinda strange how powertechs and juggs are dealt with, but that is another topic. I did just recently re-sub and even at going from 55-60 it has been way easier than it should be. I kinda feel like some culling in could be done, but I do not want to go back to my sniper after orbital strike got whacked. OH wait that would be where my merc has been for over 3 years.
  21. From what I gather the light side is the Golden rule of "do onto others". The force is the ability to "do", and this is stronger in some folks and situations. The light side is the "onto others". This is taking the responsibility to impact the greater world instead of self. Easier said than done, and this is why there's so much talk about balance. The dark side is simply doing what excludes others purely for the benefit of self. This is a great example of the "With great power comes great responsibility" or power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely". Many people never have enough power to really have daily decisions become the stuff of legend. Many folks would also like very simple rules and story lines so welcome to religion and laws. This is why we see such big tragic problems in the movies, as well as more nuanced issues in the books. Different media, with different types of viewers. The grey area is that even if their is a higher power or "force" uniting us all, the rules and take away messages are still made by flawed individuals who sometimes get it right or may just use the surface to get for themselves (welcome to episode 1-3 and the US political world) George Lucas specifically used archetype characters as described in "the Hero's Journey" by Joseph Campbell, and these characters all had a deep tie into their mythologies, cultures and religions. So yes he is trying to be preachy, but my suspicion is he also wanted to create a new universe where folks could experience the basic message without being caught up in the rules and regulations that come with our historical perception of religion/history (or worse academic small talk with big words). Joseph Campbell explains much of this in the video series "The Power of Myth" where he goes into Lucas's use of the archetypes. This is one reason the Star Wars universe has taken on such an extended life, because their is more than just a basic story. See all of the variations of light and dark in lore as an expanded set of Gods in a polytheistic culture. Each one has its own unique power for that story, but the broader understanding comes from realizing they are only very powerful stories that one needs to understand and then use within their own story. Or just enjoy the story.
  22. Some games and parts of games are optimized better than others Standard reply turn off any other software you may have running (ALL means ALL) CHeck what is running in background. Google anything that uses a lot of resources. Never play on WiFI - need to repeat it Run a disc defrag/clean Try running all settings on low (in game and gpu) Try different resolution Try different window settings fullscreen Check for known issues with cpu,gpu and hard drive. FInd out if the bottle neck is gpu or cpu. One will be faster than the other, even if they are both state of the art. If you run an Nvidia GPU try different settings (max pre-rendered frames at 1 or 4 helps with cpu vs gpu bind) Run repair tool try running SWTOR as admin As somebody else mentioned a new hard drive. I am really loving my SSD. Also if you have purchased your machine as pieces over a period of time, you could have an issue with the older parts still holding back the newer ones. I finally ditched AMD and got an ASUS 4690K with matching 760 gpu. Upper mid level meat and potatos parts by a good manufacturer. I also put in a new seagate SSD and RAM. Nothing cutting edge all from 1 year time frame. Everything went together easy and all problems solved.
  23. Sounds like a server problem with hardware cooling if it was one location. If it happened on multiple servers, it sounds like a new technology or update that the servers are not set up for. I have worked on large websites that also needed to store a massive amount of client data. What happens is your perfect system according to the salespeople needs slight tweaking over a period of time. Then the shortcuts/fixes become an unseen issue that gets tripped by an update or some other problem created by any one of the bazillion technologies/machines accessing your system. Then the cycle starts over. The reality is all of the talk about standards and compatibility are only partial truths. The ethernet is held together with rubber bands and string. OR Some group of terrorist gamers is trying to exploit a bug with some new trick that relies on the ethernet being held together with rubber bands and string.
  24. First if you are tank curious put the ur taunts on key Binds that you can Spam when off CD. They do not use a CD so your damage will not suffer - pvp only. I have used guard stance w/without shield when guarding or keeping folks from a door. This is to be done only if you use your def well and in electronic fic situations. On my jug you change stances while moving, but is harder on VG. Also in arenas you may be a focus if you pull4 dps. BUT in pvp your burst is OP, so poor and mid level players will only be gimping their team.
