  1. This needs to happen. I decided to return to the game after being absent for a couple of years. I made a mistake in changing from Assassin to Shadow and want to change back. Charge me $10 to undo my mistake if you have to but not be able to change\configure my Character is not acceptable. This is a game and real-life things should not be a part of fun escapism.
  2. Just using windows/mac because lots of people do is also a poor reason. Computers are tools, powerful and flexible but only tools. It the flexibility to use a single device for work and play. To control your house or support thousands of other computer systems running applications for millions. I have extensive experience with windows running in home and international enterprises. There are plenty of things lacking in windows, so true in linux and Mac. That's not a good question. What would a Linux desktop offer over a windows desktop? Simple - security. Secondly lower price point for performance. So if you are prioritizing security and/or you want a system that will perform the same as new hardware with older less expensive hardware or possibly you need more performance (Developer or Engineer) than you can get from windows Linux is a logical choice. Often because the IT support only knows windows (and how to remove Malware for a cost) its the training cost that has companies reluctant to change. Portables and tablets are changing that. Since tablets out sell computers, an Android client (largest market share in portables currently anyway) is what you are really advocating for yes?
  3. So by that analogy since windows is a bad server OS (It is by the way) then all servers should be *nix based and all desktops MAC or Windows. OK now that we have that settled -- Can someone check with the folks at SWTOR --- What OS are the back end servers running on? Should the client and server OS match? The SWTOR client is too heavy for browsers and needs to have a lot of local libs running to support the interactive experience we all like. Because of market share they have chosen to only make a windows client. If they ever saw an opportunity to have a viable UI on Android or iOS then the landscape would change. I saw in the thread someone suggest a kickstart program. That would have the biggest chance of success for a non-windows game client, with a little support from EA/Bioware.
  4. Bump -- but then we don't get kickbacks from M$ to write code to DirectX so it's really a 'who will pay me' thing
  5. Just as true for Windows. If you do not understand basic networking you will never connect to the internet. I have been using Windows since 1.0 (yes I know it was just a bad DOS menu system) and have used many flavors of linux. If you can install windows you can install the major linux distros. If you can install any OS you had better have learned the simple basics of assigning an IP address. Linux is no more difficult to install than any other OS, in some ways it's easier. So if you have never loaded Linux then you really do not know and are only repeating dogma and propaganda. I hope you will test it and try it for yourself.
  6. Does Alacrity do much for darkness? I'm looking to re-optimize my gear but mostly I see is PVP stats. Anyone have a good handle on PVE stats rating?
