  1. Having levelled several toons now, I've experienced PVP on many different levels, classes and WZ's. For the most part, almost everyone agrees that PVP below level 50 is far more engaging than at level 50.

Now, as a curious guy, I wondered why that is. After asking around and from my own experiences it really comes down to one thing-- the expertise statistic.

This last patch they put in diminishing returns for expertise, and no wonder. People that were stacked to obscene levels would destroy a new 50 in a WZ. As a result, fresh level 50's would play a few WZ's, get hammered, and never run them again. Left to nothing but raiding without a proper LFG tool, and world PVP being almost non-existent, people simply quit the game and said there's nothing to do.

Yet, these were the same people that were in WZ's constantly levelling up and loved to PVP.

The problem is expertise-- there doesn't seem to be any reason for it except to reward higher levels of valor or hardcore PVP people, or to punish those who want to PVP at high levels without working the WZ system. Conversely, it also punishes the PVP player who wants to raid on occasion--- now that player must raid for weeks to get endgame gear.

The expertise system is inherently flawed , since it divides the player base and makes content mutually exclusive to gear rather than play-style. The longest lasting MMO games do not discern between the PVE and PVP player but makes them part of the same community. The expertise stat is an artificial constraint and perhaps is designed to lengthen the game experience for players, rather than letting players choose their own route to top end gear.

I believe if they eliminated this statistic, you would see more people PVP'ing and in turn make the game more interesting to both aspects of gameplay. It would also make PVP at 50 as fun as it was moving up.

Pvp below 50 is not fun. Thanks for stopping by.

  2. Alright so I hear alot of different things about the way to open on a player in pvp. I usually use force jump as my opener for most classes i fight except trooper. I do this for the extra focus that I get from the opener so that I can pull a OS, cauterize, and a MS without having to use strike in my opener. Most classes dont do a big knockback that make it worth running up to them and sniper/ Sorcs normally have a root attached to their aoe knockback making it more or less useless to save my forcejump. Troopers consitently use their big knockback so saving force jump for them makes sense.

What do you guys think about this. I am only 42 and just got MS so I havent had a lot of experimenting with this strat to see if it is best. Am I a nub for using FJ as my opener? should i always be saving it for a possible gap closer while using strike to make up for the focus i lose in the initial opener to get off my best skills? Any feedback appreciated.

  3. prior to Tuesdays patch I was seeing about 1 in 7 crits for augment mats giving me the top tier purple mats and schematics. since Tuesday patch I am seeing about 1 in 15+ crits. I've run about 100 missions since the patch with 6 crits. SSS I guess you can say but prior to this patch it was a non issue. Anyone still getting normal crit rates on these missions? This seems to coincide witha decreased crit rate on RE. Let me know if anyone else has blatantly noticed or if I have just rin into an unlucky streak.
  4. It appears to me that after the last patch, RE has been messed up again. Ever since that patch, my chance at a new schematic has been terrible. A item that says it has a 20% chance to be reverse engineered, and it takes over 28 of them to get a blue?

Before the latest patch, it seemed to be working pretty well. I have 400 cybertech, so it isn't an issue of REing a schematic that is above me.

    Has anyone else noticed this?

Yes Ive noticed that my RE chance is down to one in 12 or so and on top of that my crits for slicing are WAY down. I was critting one out of 6 or 7 before and since the patch it has been and now is one in 15+. Smaller sample size but a hugely noticeable difference. I craft on three different 50s the whole time I play so relatively speaking the sample size is not that small.

  5. My fresh 50 Sentinel in Recruit gear is able to take out Mercs and Commandos in full BM and war hero gear. I can do the same amount of damage in a wz as my commando in full bm gear. I can 1v1 and 2v1 people because my kit is so much better than my commando. I can jump into the middle of 5 people and kill one before the others can burn me down. I never have to worry about managing my resources and running out of ammo. People don't focus me because I'm a free kill. And god help the other team if I have a healer.

This right here. I ahve a sorc and a sentinel that I still faceroll in. My commando is just a focus point for my PVP Rage now when I pvp with em. Every other AC is still pretty viable except this one and some are just obnoxious like my sentinel. O well they'll learn the hard way like every other dev out there. Reinstate launch, game was fine.

  6. Broken Class is broken. 1.2 officially started the nerf train. Now, as in every other MMO (was hoping this one would be exception, HAH!) you stop playing the class that is made obsolete by the train and play another until they fix the obsolete class again further down the line. Most of the good BH/Troopers have rerolled or quit. The heal spec is still viable but it is the worst of the three. DPS spec in pvp is a joke now.
  7. Made it through three pages and not one person mentioned that it takes 11000+ comms for a full set of battlemaster. So if everything goes right and you win every match you are seriously going to state that you win 110 matches in three days. Sad.
  8. There are definitely strange directions being taken by BW in this patch but I do think it's time to dispel the myth that there will be a widening of the gap between people with gear and those that don't.

    1. Most people that do reach 50 that intend on PVPing have some credits or the means to get those credits. Let's be honest, completing all the belsavis dailies alone net enough to buy 2 pieces of recruit gear. That's not small change and it's not unreasonable costs either.

    2. In case people aren't aware, the PVP dailies and weeklies yield WZ comms. Surprisingly, they yield enough that it's probably FASTER than it has ever been to get BM gear when comparing how many comms you needed to get a single BM commendation pre 1.2.

    3. No valour Req on BM gear. So basically, if I know I'm going to PVP at 50, I can easily earn the credits, get Recruit gear and then immediately start completing dailies for WZ comms to get BM gear. If you complete your dailies each day, that's a BM chest piece in the first week of starting to PVP at 50.

So basically, I'm calling Bull on all the crying about the growing equipment stats gap people are talking about. Simply doing ANY WZ's will get you BM gear, even if you lose every single time and eventually you will get your set.

Lol yea if you win every single match you can gear up to BM in 2 weeks. Its around 12k comms to get set. If you dont win EVERY SINGLE WZ then, NO, no you can not gear up easier now than before. Solo Qs are done and that unfortunately makes up more than 50% of the pvpers in the game. Better hope that you have full geared guilds on both sides constantly Qin or have casuals that are masochists cuz itll soon be around 20 people on each side Qin. Im glad i got most of my pieces and all but I would like to roll alts and i do solo q when im on in offtimes. Catering only to hardcore gamers is a fail model for MMOs and i say that as a hardcore gamer.

  9. Wrong answer.

    I love PvP - I hate PUGS - I love Pre-mades.

However I don't want casual PVPers to never join matches because they are going to lose and gain nothing in return. The rich just get richer and the PVP populace dies off.

BAD idea - please fix DEVS.

This is true and I hope it is what they fixed in teh patch. Nothing kills a game faster than having your casuals (85% of your pop) Rage quit and not queue anymore. It was already happening last night on pub side.

  10. Ravage did not get buffed, and does not tick for more than 2k. Stop making up numbers, I wish they would ban people like you.

    Patch notes:

Ravage is now uninterruptable and hits for approximately 15% more damage...

    GG

  11. i just played 5 straight games where it was 6v8 or 7v8 the whole game because there isn't even 8 players on the republic side queuing.

can't wait for diablo 3, anything is better then this farce.

Diablo 3 will have so many pvp mod hacks within 3 months that it will ridiculous. PVE should be sick though

  12. We're not talking about a coordinated team, this is 1v2. Even with force leap and kick interrupts a merc healer will stand there laughing in your face self healing, while still healing his friends.

lol if you cant kill a commando or merc heals as a sent/ marauder then you def need to reroll.
