  1. You sir, should duel a decent assassin for a change, I, personally tear people apart with my Darkness assassin.

     

    You tear people apart because of the darkness mechanics, not because of your loldps. Kudos on not understanding your class. Your single target dps is laughable outside of recklessness when compared to what real dpsers are doing right now.

  2. I don't raid because it's a time sink. I craft, talk with friends, help lowbies, and pvp. I've got several chars that I run so I can experience the entire grasp of the republic side of the game. I have no rakata or whatever gear nor do I want it. It has nothing to do with Star Wars.. Nor does catering to pvpers/pvpers.

     

    This isn't wow... This is Star Wars... This isn't "the next MMO" for you to face roll people in until another one comes out...this is Star Wars..

  3. Lot's of good posts from a couple posters who's opinion I respect. Let me preface this by saying that I play very competitively and with a skilled group as well. Like I said earlier, this is a debate without a clearly defined answer, and I will continue to believe that. Know that the meta-curve will always be ahead of most forum chatter. Also, I'm on my phone so bear with me. That said, let me get to some responses...

    Good discussion which is worth continuing imo. (too much to quote)

    We're definitely very close in our opinions, and I appreciate how you base your argument. In a competitive environment, a good team doesn't just hit my healers or only hit myself, they do both in an orchestrated manor. A competitive team will try to keep my healer healing himself why they kill me first. I'm not going to be the only person pealing off of my healers and I can assure you when that healer is taking 80% less dmg and healing himself and being healed by others, he isn't going to die. A good team kills the gaurder first, guys. Not the other way around. And they do it by FF switching after lockouts if they can pull it off. They also need to keep the other healers distracted as well. If they can't pull all that off, neither of us dies. Period. 80% less damage + self healing + myself and others pealing + others healing said healer = alive healer.

     

    I firmly believe there should be 1 person on an 8man that is hard as nails to kill, even if that comes at a cost. Keep in mind that I also feel that not every assassin on an 8man should be full on darkness/survivor. I don't believe there is room for more than 1 actually. I honestly don't mean this as an insult, but the dps pressure you can put on attackers in 1.2 as compared to a mara/deception/merc/skilled PT/ignored smash jugs/snipers/ops ect isn't in the same realm if you're any form of darkness. I really don't feel that needs an explanation. Watch some vids of what these other classes are currently doing if you don't believe me. As for your argument about killing blows, that's easily summed up with one skill that basically no one else has, Assisnate. You're already in melee range(zero travel time) and have the best execute in the game. I'd expect you to have more kb's. For your comment about the enemy team running the ball, simple answer, they don't ever get the ball! /snicker lol. No but in all seriousness, against my premade, they will only score on us if they can kill us before we kill the ball carriers support, and I do agree that in that one single instance, you will be slightly ahead of me with survivor. If my team needs me, i'll be there helping do everything you do but doing less dmg, if not, I'll go mid and not die as I wait for them to score, and we will take back control of the game. I too am reallyyyyy looking forward to rated WZs.

    Sorry, didn't mean to spark up a debate. Do you have a link to where Taugrim (or anyone else, doesn't matter who) talks about how it's changed in detail, since then? I think that would help a lot, since Taugrim's first post is a little dated.

    I could see tank gear becoming much more important for 8v8 rated matches, as groups will be much more specialized. For group rated I'll be mostly using my DPS pt pyro tho.

    You'd have to go through some of the past The Republic show's on gamebreaker to find it. I don't know off the top of my head which episode. And no worries, the only thing you sparked up was a good conversation that will better the community that reads this.

    I really don't see how people can make this argument about survivality being more important in organized gameplay........

    Let me repeat this again, killing the person guarding with FF while keeping the healers entertained will ALWAYS be easier to kill than a healer who is self healing, being healed by others, working los, being peeled properly, AND taking 80% less damage. In fact, it's damn near impossible to kill that healer. Not sure what kind of teams you guys are going up against to make you feel that killing the healer first is easier, or if your guarder/peelers/healers aren't doing their jobs correctly...

    That sums it up pretty much the difference between winners and losers. You have to be able to pressure a healer and make him forget everyone else but try to save his own butt makes life in wz so much easier that way.

    These aren't small scale arena style deathmatches with only one healer. These are 8man objective based WZs, and it's actually much more complicated than that. What we do works. What I do, works. Our synergy works. We've proven this in WZs over and over to the point where it's almost boring.

     

    To conclude all of this, I respect everyones opinion if they have put more than 5 seconds of thought into it. I thank you for your responses, and I look forward to seeing you all in cross-server rated's. =D

  4. Del, if I'm alive longer, it does increase my utility. Also, according to every VERY good healer that I run with regularly, I am very much easier to heal with survivor. I'm well aware that guarded dmg doesn't go through my defenses, however if I'm alive longer, I can mitigate more of that. Just having more HP alone will help with that, along with taking less dmg from outside sources. Add the mass of snipers and mara's that are about to enter the picture, and I firmly believe that survivor gear is better for darkness when it comes to 8man queued teamplay.

     

    Additionally, going dps gear as darkness is more than just a "small penalty," your dps compared to other real dps'rs out there in 1.2 is a joke. Go madness or deception if you want to dps and help burst people down. That's what matters now. Zerg zerg zerg, for better or worse.

     

    *just as a side note, though I have no illusions of it happening next week or anything, I do 100% believe that BW will make defensive stats more effective in PvP in the future.

  5. There's definitely a lot of PUG that will just attack whoever they see in front of them and defensive stats work fine there.

     

    It's when you fight against guys who know how to correlate observed HP versus expected DPS where this strategy falls apart.

     

    Another reason why I agree to disagree lol. I actually do better in pugs with stalker gear as I typically have to fend for myself more often than I would with my premade.

  6. Fully agree and I hope BW takes the time to read this. This is the MMO world. We spend time improving our mains, not rolling alts that we care less about. The only thing most anyone wanted from 1.2 was ranked WZ's. I could care less about legacy abilities I'll NEVER use once my alt is 50. What a joke.
  7. Tank Assassins don't get focus fired by good teams unless they're carrying the Huttball. In the time it takes you to kill an Assassin you can kill almost 2 any other guy and no way the Assassin is more valuable than 2 other players.

     

    The best way to deal with Assassin is taunt them and work on killing everyone else around them first, and when you're the last guy left your survivality doesn't matter because you'll just be dead.

     

    That's arguable and without a clearly defined answer. To play into that, one could also assert that the longer I stay alive, the more guard dmg I can take, the longer I can peel for my healers, and the more I can debuff the enemy. I can also stay alive longer while waiting for reinforcements to arrive while defending a node/door/bunker and in many situations, carry the ball better than anyone. While most of my team is waiting to respawn, I'm still there and making a difference. Even if it's only seconds more than a stalker geared assassin, all too often, those seconds mean everything.

     

    Just food for thought.

  8. Well I guess ill worry about competitive 8 mans when that launches in 3 months. Until then im doin just fine, if not better in PVP since 1.2. Im guessing your going to see some PVP "Adjustments" well before any type of 8 man Ranked queing goes into effect. Ill worry about the sky falling then.

     

    It won't be 3 months, and come ranked WZs, you won't have a choice, you'll be forced into DPS or to halfasss darkness with stalker, because grinding out a whole new set of WH will take too long. Just something to think about.

  9. ah thank you! I understand why they don't. Any of the defensive stats besides straight mitigation in pvp are next to useless. Tank gear gives you very minimal benefits in pvp.

    He was right then, but things have changed since then and he's talked about it as well if you don't want to take my word for it. It's not as useless as people think. To say it gives no benefit is a large exaggeration. I highly predict it will become even more valuable with the HUGE crop of marauders and snipers who are just hitting 50 now. Additionally, how you play greatly dictates which gear would be best for you. To take a very large conversation and turn it into a question, I would ask you this; are you going to run darkness spec with a competent premade for teamplay/objective purposes, or will you just be pugging around?

    Open your eyes some. Nothing has changed to your class, EVERYTHING has changed for others, and that directly effects you and your team. PvP has changed entirely overnight.

     

    Not sure until peeps catch up I love my +4k hits and still feel a hella lot harder to kill then in deception or madness...

     

    Your 4k shocks here and there are nothing when compared to what a real dps spec of any AC is doing right now. That was fine pre 1.2, come competitive 8mans, I can't see that being the case. Bring true utility, or bring serious dps. Half asssing either will be a waste.

  11. Thats not the real War hero gear. That is the crafted costume pieces that pretty much everyone has. Its physically impossible to have full warhero atm.

     

    This. All he did is waste a ton of credits for crafted orange gear, throw his BM mods in there, and buy a few augments. Not hatin on the guy, just saying. He isn't in "real" WH gear at all, just using the skins. #falseadvertisement.

  12. You're basically saying "play medals instead of objectives"... don't you see something wrong here?

     

    What's fun in pvp is close win/loss, which is hardly rewarded at all.

     

    What's rewarded is steamrolling the ennemy team, which is not fun except for some stupid, selfish, sadistic people.

     

    My goal in PvP is to crush, steamroll, and demoralize my enemy. I want the enemy to **** their pants when they see me and my team. Guess that makes us stupid, selfish, and sadistic.
