I understand most people probably don't even know what I'm talking about, but I know you can feel it.
So I made a quick script to instantly move the mouse left and right by 40 pixels and recorded what the game does.
The footage below is slowed by 50% so you can more easily see what is going on.
The camera slowly interpolates to the new position. With instant mouse movement like this, the camera in 99% of other games will instantly point in the new direction. but SWTOR interpolates towards the new direction, taking several frames to finally arrive. It is jarring. It is sloppy. It is totally 100% unnecessary and adds absolutely nothing to the game.
As a side note, you can also see that the camera does not return to the same position it started. Sometimes it moves further left or further right. This is because SWTOR also forces mouse acceleration on. Why? Who knows. There was a sadist working at bioware when developing this game who wanted to make mouse controls as sloppy as possible.
However since there is a windows registry fix to force this off, I am focusing solely on the smoothing / damping / interpolation / whatever you want to call it.
