As far as I know, the class quest storyline will be the same no matter which advanced class you choose, so I wouldn't be too concerned about that. If you are level 10 or above, you can return to the fleet and do the quest that will give you the advanced class choice.

I agree with everything you said here. Also, people need to realize that there is no auto-attack in this game. You have to use your skills to do damage, so like you said, it is important to keep your skills trained up. I think its good to play a challenging game. That way, when you complete a quest or kill a boss you feel like you actually accomplished something. I hope Bioware doesn't make this game any easier.
