  1. Jeez, I can't believe it...they finally fixed it. The serial number and activation code in my account was finally different than the the original one I had, so I was able to put back on the mobile security key. Why didn't BioWare announce that they fixed this?!?!? -HM
  2. The app itself is fine. The problem is that it shouldn't involve going through 300 hoops to remove it, then add it again. Other developers provide methods to do this; BioWare should too. -HM
  3. Of course that's what he advised...because once you have the mobile key removed, it's impossible to add it again. What ELSE can they suggest? -HM
  4. I've been waiting since December for them to fix this, when I had to have the key removed due to a problem with my phone. It got fixed the next day, and that's when I learned the hard way it couldn't be put back on. Took another couple of weeks for BioWare to acknowledge the problem, claiming they were working on a fix. March approachth, and still no fix for a feature that Blizzard and many other security key companies have via the app and their web page. -HM
  5. None right now, because once you take the mobile key off, it's impossible to put it back on again. -HM
  6. You can take the key off by calling BioWare. The problem is once it's taken off, you can't put it back on. STILL waiting... -HM
  7. Once you have them remove the security key from a phone, it CANNOT be re-added, even to another phone. They're working on a fix, but that's been in the works for a month or so now, so who knows when it will be fixed. -HM
  8. It is a desktop OS. It's just not a very popular one. Which is why expecting BioWare to work on fixing the bug causing the game to not work on WINE is a bit lofty. -HM
  9. That's pretty awful if the LCD isn't working properly all the time. The mobile app is fine (if not as snazzy looking as Blizzard's), but the fact that I can't remove it myself, and now that I've had BioWare remove it, that I can't use it again, is inexcusable. I know they were under pressure to have it available at launch, but a half-hearted implementation that ends up crippling the user is really not acceptable, and they should've waited before throwing it out there if this is the result. -HM
  10. Not if you have BioWare remove the security key. And since you can't have more than one mobile key per account, you can't add a new one while the original is still connected. It's a bug. They're working on it. -HM
  11. That's correct. Currently you cannot move the mobile key, so call them, have them remove it, and with luck sometime soon you'll be able to re-add it. -HM
  12. The problem is the gamer base for Linux is just too tiny. The peak, when I was doing it around the release of Quake 3, is long gone. There are statistically many more Mac users, and even they don't have a client right now. With luck one day it'll just work (again) on WINE because someone at BioWare has some extra time, SOMETIME, and tweaks/fixes whatever causes the problem. -HM
  13. Maybe at some point one of the BioWare developers will throw the WINE folks a bone, but my guess is right now they're so overwhelmed with fixing things just so it runs well on Windows, that it won't happen too soon. -HM
  14. Yes, probably, as that seems to be the fashion these days. -HM
  15. There's no way they'll do a Linux port. Gaming in Linux is mostly dead (mostly). I was full on Linux back in the day, as was said in an earlier post, when id Software, and others (Descent 3! Tribes 2! Alpha Centauri!), were putting Linux game boxes on the shelf. It lasted for a few years, but there was basically no interest from the end user, so it died. There's zilch money to be made. Here's the article on Mac port possibility: http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/01/02/bioware-mac-version-of-star-wars-the-old-republic-is-something/ -HM
  16. Customer service can absolutely remove a security key...they did it for me. What we, and they, can't do right now is put another mobile one back on after a previous one has been removed. -HM
  17. It does appear to be a bug. It's hit or miss whether I can get back to the ship "in time" to speak to him. Most times he gives up and the opportunity is gone. I assume it's a bug, and hopefully it's being looked at. I'm at level 29. -HM
  18. No. There have been more than a few threads about this over the last few weeks. BioWare has made no comment on it, but I'm sure they'll make one available if it's deemed to be cost effective for them. But trust me when I tell you that you don't want to use it right now anyway. You can't take it off without customer service intervention, plus, once you remove it, there's no way to get it back on again. The security key will be better once they improve the implementation. -HM
  19. You have to call customer service to have it removed. -HM
  20. You can use one or the other but not both. -HM
  21. Just don't use the security key. With the security questions, plus keeping vigilant about not falling for phishing scams, you'll probably be fine. I'm not going to call them again just to re-apply the key. I'll consider doing it again once they make it possible for me to add and remove them at will...with no calls to them needed. -HM
  22. The concept is good, but as I said on page 3, BioWare's implementation is not as good as Blizzard's and Google's, so you'll be frustrated as soon as you want to remove it. And don't be led to believe it solves everything, as was proven recently by Trion, who got hacked recently, leaving Rift players with their info stolen, even those who had authenticators. They do no good if the thief chooses to go in the back door. Point is, know what you're signing up for, pros and cons, and don't expect anything to magically solve all security problems. HM
  23. In theory it's a good idea, but BioWare's is not as good as Google's or Blizzard's, because you can't take it off and put it back on again at will without their intervention. My iPhone had a power button issue, so I had to call and wait for 45 minutes to have BioWare remove it from my account. Now that the power button problem has been solved, I want to put the security key back on, but I keep getting an error. Customer Service here on the forums said I have to call BioWare AGAIN in order to put the key back on. Basically, a security key should not hold one hostage. We should be allowed to remove and add the keys at will without calling them, much like changing our passwords and security questions. Other companies allow this, so BioWare should too. This hassle makes me want to not use the key, which is the exact opposite of what they want to happen. In conclusion, the idea of it is great, but BioWare's implementation, compared to other keys I have used, leaves a lot to be desired. -HM
  24. Currently they don't. Have to call them on the phone. Make sure if you do this, you go through adding the new one while they're still on the phone. I want to add a security key back on that I removed, and I get an error. I was told by BioWare I have to call them AGAIN. Very unfortunate. So yes, BioWare should allow us to remove and add security keys as often as we want, without their intervention. Much like changing passwords or security questions. Google and Blizzard already do this for their customers' authenticators. -HM
