  1. Im running an octo core now. Lots of power, STO, WoW, etc run smoothly - but not SWtOR. This game as uniquely problematic issues I cant find the root of other than to say 'the game sucks that way'.
  2. As reported here in 2011 (!) http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=84319 My camera speed keeps setting itself to the highest possible setting without the slider moving. i finally got it to reset by manually raising it from 0% to 77%, applying it, loging out, and in, and then reducing it again. And then it screws up again and sets itself too high. it happens often enough Im not willing to spend several minutes of my time fixing the bug to play for what feels like less time. Any chance this five year old bug could be fixed sometime soon?
  3. This post will contain a few spoilers for KotFE's story. I've been picking up the expansions but the Hutt Cartell was so...meh. I didnt have a character motivated by credits at the time so I didnt get into it. KotFE confused the living daylights out of me with its poor advertising but it was a less mercenary thing and exp was supposed to be easier or something so I leveled my 'Smuggler' (Jedi Knight with Vibroblades) anf tried it out. I noticed I had some rather strong reactions so I thought Id give the best feedback I could. KotFE Inro - I really enjoyed the Jedi Knight story beats. The little things you added have me hoping that it was class based - Im going to finish leveling everyone up and check it out. Ive watched cut scenes on youtube. I havent done that in 6-7 years KotFE Layout - Holy hell it sucks. Do a super cool quest. Walk, walk, walk, fight boring massive packs of trash mobs, walk, walk, walk. If I wasnt super invested in the story I ouldnt of forced myself to do it..and it communicates that my time is worthless to the quest designers, map builders, mob populators, etc. KotFE Fights - Quote "Oh for the love of Gaia please just die." Pecking away at some super elite mob drains all the excitement out of the fight. Of course the way the comanion system feels broken (more later) I know i cant die. So I end up watching a video or going to get something to eat. Yet I also get mad when it kills me for not paying attention randomly after training me to do so. KOFE Maps - I dont know who designed the settings but they have made some poor choices. The Tombstone is the most glaring. The map felt like it was made big to kill my time not so the ship felt big. The game has used the 'undergeound dungeon made of a crashed ship' thing so often It took a lot of work for me to care about it - kind of. One thing that will help imersion is if i can get the people on the ship to pick up a damn peice of paper. The ship gets 'improved' yet the 'dirt and disused' graphics dont. The areas feel very liniar, channeled, and really like its useless to waste time trying to get someplace without agroing every stupid silver and gold on the map. Conversation Options - The dialog tree is worse than ever for not telling you what your going to say. This desperatly needed another go over before I give some answer that sounded reasonable to me and end up killing someone. ESPECIALLY since you have me confronting an x-companion I hate (Vik-If your a trooper you know why) and right after I kill him you have the game chew me out for doing so. I didnt know I was supposed to be recruiting them later. You never told me a damn thing in dialog. So whoever put that option in there, at that point, was a real jerk. Special mention must be made to the way you scrapped the SWTOR conversations for Guildwars. I dont ike the feel of the Guild Wars options. If I did Id play Guild Wars. Having my protagonist silent suddenly is jarring and makes the conversations much harder to get invested in. I have a feeling every PC says the same thing but still its an awful cap to the questing experience. Comanion Recruitment - I love the /concept/. My first companion quest sent me to solo world bosses. With you guys scailing it so gear and level dont matter I coudlnt survive a fight. So one of the beginning companions has one of the hardest quests to complete. Its flawed on many levels. So after wasting three hours of my time on that I went to 4X (one of my fav trooper companions) and was told to go PVP. That killed what little momentum I had to recruitment. Its nonsensical for how difficult it is and makes zero sense in the lore setting, personality, etc. That last is far more Damning than anything else. being forced to try nd get people to hunt world bossess for Q I can kinda gt behind. This is just ... well fill in your own swear words. KotFE Story - Well to be positive first I did like it overall. But its adding stuff to the universe that feels more and more like the things Ive cared about (Repub / Empire) are worth nothing. Thats not a good feeling to give people. Several points n the story I felt like I should just quit cause this obviously isnt going to have any impact on the universe / setting. After Reven had an unstoppable force that having ANOTHER one show up is just head scratching. I don't want 'same game different names'. And on a side note Reven getting seperated by the Transporter into good and evil? Really? REALLY!?! Yea that made the TWENTY FIVE MINUTE fight to kill him so worth it to see that Base System - Several games have adopted it and SWtOR's is the strongest example of how to do it right. BUT you lay out rooms far away from each other to waste my time traveling. This is horrid and increases the sense of boredom. I doubt it will ever get full enough I will feel those massive useless hallways are worth it. id suggets letting the player arrange rooms in a way that fits their playstyle in future efforts. As awful and broken as WoD is in WoW you dont have a three minute run between NPCs IN YOUR BASE. The NPCs need an option around their dialog somewhere to explain how to get the 'Millitary Equipment' etc and how to use it. I don't know if my refusal to die over and over in pvp or to World Bosses means Ill never get any at all or what. I dont know why I suddenly have nothing to do in my base or why your gating it. other than to waste my time and make the game less fun. Returning Players - You really give them no help at all figuring out what the bantha butt is going on. I fought for an entire evening and submitted numerous CSR tickets trying to get the Heroic system to work. Finally days later when editing my UP I saw a bar that was disabled. Turning it on made the game work but there isnt any info to tell me any of this. You have that aggravating pop up for new things - this is one case where it could be used to improve the game. Even if all it did was note when you played last and linked you to the patch notes since then it would make the game less of a 'what the hell is going on' effect. How was I to know what spec I shoudl chose? you got rid of talent trees and gave me...this... combat proficiencies thing. I dont know what I should be chosing and have no way of finding out in game. Or even out - the game feels so unsupported and abandonware google is referring me to things from 2012 for how to play now. I'd honestly suggest analyzing Warcraft's system layout with core abilities and the like. it works. Special - Give an award to whoever designed the dialog on the C2-N2/2VR8 quest. I spent an hour (or more!) tormenting my people with C2 and having massive fun. best of all its something I can finish easily on alts... though I think Hylo's response to cushions was so briliant Ill have to do it every time. Base 'Companions' - Who are these people? The only one I kind of knew was the voss and that was more from doing almost every quest there so I know her culture. I'm not invested in getting them to like me their just kinda there. You should of taken the time to do some optional dialogs in the party or similar event to help me find out what I supposedly did with them and where. I mean Hylo is supposed to be in her 60s as far as I know? Time Jump - Not a fan. Forcing me to try and work that into my story .. nah wont happen. Tht start makes this more of a 'what if' comic than a part of the universe making me less involved. Your Companions - I did like how the story handled the companions in general. That positive out of the way this MAJORLY messed with my crafting in general. Also I have some companions that Ive grown very attached to. I didnt know how much until I found my ship painfully empty as I wandered around looking for .. well someone. The only thing I have left of my previous adventures is my holo letters from the Dark Jedi ... and that just reminds me that its another plot thread that went nowhere. :~( The mechanics of crafting mean you need a better warning at the very least. I would like to see crafting continue with fill ins if this is done again. Perhaps have 'Alliance Droids' handle it. Vik shouldnt of been there as a character or it shouldn't of given you a klll option or it should of made clear this will break later things in the game if you kill him now. Im still enraged you had the gall to have your NPCs talk down to me about killing a moralless crime lord who was threatening innocents because he 'might of been an ally' when I didnt know what the hell he was talking about. Had I even known since he is presented as a clear and present danger to the world, people, and me I dont know how I could chose it and stay 'in character'. Breaking that immersion is a big flaw. Also all the new companions wont let you change their clothes..its a little thing but it means every companion looks like every other. I know the system is still there - the older companions do it - so why was this odd choice made? It dimishes my feeling that their people I can interact with and makes them more cut outs that fall flat. Companion Roles - This is a great idea on the surface. As a DPS I was never able to use many companions because Id fall down trying. But making them all interchangable faceless meaningless people is too far the other way. If everyone can do everything than why do anything? The companion system was a great strength in SWtOR and this hurts it in a lot of ways. BTW whoever voice acted Lord Scourge's healing vocals was so far off i cant use him to heal. he would of been better silent. Its been 24 hours after unlocking the base and really I don't see why I should continue to grind this. KotFE keeps telling me it doesnt value my time in the slightest and makes me feel like the home I imagined on my ship is gone. I want to enjoy it. I want to see the story with the companions and go through the RP of recruiting them...but I dont want endless deaths in pvp to do it or to be slaughtered by world bosses. Oh as a wish list item - Let us customize the looks of weapons. I'm stuck with a lightsaber I dont want to use that has massively better stats that anything i can mod up. It breaks the feel of the character to be forced into it so I have to ask please - let the outfit designer do that. Heck you could even make it an additional unlock. I'd pay a dollar or two for the ability. I know this has been mostly negative, but I wanted to focus on feedback of the flaws so they can be tweaked and fixed. The companions Ive met from other classes seem spot on as well as the ones from my class in their RP. Well except for 4X. Poor 4X and the awful, awful, writing of that quest. Have fun! *Forever a Dark Jedi*
  4. I was incredibly excited when my JK hit the Corellia story because of how much of it seemed to be a payoff for previous quests. But it seems poorly written / executed. My Dark Jedi had his friend from Typhon show up. I accidentally hit the neutral option instead of the kill him or capture him ones and he vanished never to return. The help he promised was not given. After all the emotional build up of the letters and 40 some levels of waiting it was a bitter pill. The rest of the Jedi you interacted with just sort of wander off never to be heard or again, again very disappointing. I wanted to work to help Kira's old master to regain confidence in herself but after a dialog she vanished never to be seen again. The whole thing felt like it had massive promise but the execution totally fell apart. Finally I dont know why I recieved the Master title. My character isnt worthy of acknowledgment as a Master and I didnt chose the dialog options to get that title. Why not give General? Why not let you char with an NPC to get the final title assignment after the dialog or swap it or something if you just have to let people get it anyway? General fits my not-so-jedi Jedi far better.
  5. Eventually SwtOR will want to be able to customize characters. Three years with one haircut is rather dull after all. My idea is to tie it into crafting and existing game programming. First players will need an item slot for customization like their companions do. Biotechs craft customization objects that change the sliders, just like the companions items do. But I think the system can do a bit more. Green Quality - Normal character creation. Blue Quality - Cross faction potential. Purple Quality - Special mixes like humans with Rattataki tatoos. twilek with cyborg eyes. Orange Quality - 'unique' combinations. Red skinned Rattataki. Chiss with Zabrak horns. For a mission dropped pattern for flashpoints perhaps a craftable kit that lets the player set it up for themselves as a one time thing and is then set. The rabbit hole could go deep or shallow as you like to start and be built onto and would give the doctors something nicely unique to sell on the AH. It adds customization to the characters in the game without breaking the engine or requiring too much new technology to be developed.
