I rolled a Vanguard initially because I thought I wanted to tank with it. After to mid 30s I decided to see how Guardian tanks instead; the whole idea of hitting someone with a guy, along with the energy regen mechanic, kind of bothered me. I found I liked Guardian tanking more, but now I'm stuck with a level 30 char that I don't want to tank with, and I don't necessarily want to be tank-level DPS either.
So what am I to do, just delete him and start over? I would love to make him a Commando so I could heal or be a real DPS class.
The problem is you're not a different class depending on your AC. You're the exact same class, you have access to different talent trees and some different skills.
I'm just wondering why people are so mad that this is a possibility? Does it affect you? Are you being forced to change? I don't honestly care if you see releveling as a real and fun possibility; if the system is put in place and you'd want to change, then YOU can do that. I'm just not going to play my trooper, which shuts off a reason for me to play, having an alt. I don't see the fun in doing the exact same story again.
/edit: If they were totally different classes, I would NOT make this argument. However, Bioware saved time, effort, and money by making 8 classes out of 4, because they decided that every piece of inconsequential dialog just had to be voice acted. If they were 8 separate classes, I would not want a class change, but they're not. I don't want to be punished for Bioware's cost-saving measure.
