I wouldn't even say that, I think they did a good job justifying our business on Ord Mantell. I can as of now only speak for the Imperial side. For my Inquisitor it felt like she was there for business that is way above the paygrade of any Ord Mantell citizen. Krovos further reinforces that point. We are on a mission that just happened to lead us to a backwater village. It's a small expedition that the Sith manage to turn to their favour, by further undermining Mantellian support for the Republic, while they of course don't give a single crap about the citizens. I feel like we got a glimpse into Imperial operations, I imagine small style subversive missions like these happening all around Republic space. Keep in mind, Gizmel was bought by Krovos way before we set foot on the planet. In this case we just happened to stumble into one of those operations.

The dialogue also felt appropriate. You can make it quite clear to both Gizmel and Petra that you are better than them and that they're just a means to an end. I also appreciate the small details, like offering Petra a place at the Sith Academy.

It also greatly helped that our force sensitive chars actually used the force in 7.4.

I agree that they give you enough reason to be there, same as with Rishi for example. And I also feel that the way you use the force and are usually able to act with blatant disregard for lesser being's lives is great!

However the story did feel more logical and natural on my smuggler than it did on my inquisitor. The Republic side (especially for non-force users) just makes a bit more sense. Yeah Krovos explains why she is there, but I personally had to make some leaps to get it to fit in my head: a dark council member on an unimportant world for something of minor interest. Arn being there was simply easier to explain and make sense of.

Same as dealing with Petra. The dialogue is just more smooth to me as a smuggler than as a sith.

Again though, because they are making a single story for all classes, it seems impossible to make it feel equally logical for all classes. I am glad they chose an area where my smuggler and trooper feel at home. Because it has been the other way around plenty. My jedi knight killing Valkorion was fitting, my smuggler defeating him by beating him up with his bare hands...not so much.

  2. Kessan's landing is actually a pretty nice place. If we forget about the Malgus-Heta-holocron storyline dragging on WAY too long for a second...this update gave us a nice area on a planet that we otherwise see very little off.

They created an atmosphere in the village that suits the setting quite well if you ask me. It feels like a lot is going on and there are different areas and shops and conversations. I truly like it. Whether you enjoy the storyline or not, the characters are generally speaking a good fit as well. You get a real sense of the place and the people living there. It does work a lot better for non force-using classes to be there, but that is unavoidable at this point.

With the problems people seem to have with other parts of the update, I felt this part is being overlooked. Of course I would prefer a whole expansion, but otherwise I hope they keep creating areas like this.

  3. What I expect happens when this GTN fee goed live:

-the less popular or less known items will dissapear from the GTN

-undercutting will increase so prices will drop

-less people will want to play the 'GTN game'

-less listings and less sales means less taxes so...eventually it will also be less effective against inflation.

This is pure speculation but the end result seems to be the exact opposite of what they want to achieve. I personally expect to list less items because it is a waste of money to offer items that don't sell quickly.

  4. Yes, they largely removed it, as with a few other areas, years ago. It still bothers me as it was a nice questline. They should not have removed quests from the original game, it is still the best part of the whole game.

Ps: I always liked the staged bonus quests too. They removed quite a few of those as well making whole areas largely obsolete...darn shame

  5. Nah, those 10 extra levels will not solve anything.

My suggestion would be to a. introduce basic mechanics in the solo game and b. make it so that you can only buy the master datacron if you already have a level 80 character.

Give a tutorial if need be, but players should learn about:

    - interrupts

    - not standing in red glowing circles

    - enemy cast bars

I cannot imagine people leaving because they have to put in a tiny bit of effort to learn about these mechanics. And it would make the game better if you would actually have to use them from time to time. It may make the experience more rewarding because leveling would at least take sóme effort.

The battle of Rishi is the perfect example of why this would help. On the final boss, 1 or 2 players always die. Not because they are new to the FP, but because they forget they have to pay attention. To either the boss or the chat. And it's not like it is a hard fight either, I can solo it if the rest of my party dies.

Count me in the category that would insta-quit. I hope you were being facetious with your last sentence. If you think SWTOR can afford to lose half its player base, well, suffice it to say we should just agree to disagree.

Fortunately, we'll never know because Bioware will never implement such a draconian solution, largely because SWTOR would lose far more than 50% of its population. I am highly confident the game would die.

I have zero sympathy for brand new players who start an MMORPG and think they should be able to afford the best cosmetic items. Last year, I started playing FFXIV (subsequently left b/c I didn't like the combat and the music grated on my nerves, but that's beyond the scope of this thread.)  I could level just fine but my outfits were pretty ridiculous. Welcome to MMORPGs. By definition, they are an investment in time and character development.

I understand players have gotten credits through nefarious means; e.g. third party credit sales and exploits. That's on Bioware. I have earned every credit of mine through legitimate means. Your proposed tax would disincentivize me to the point I would play ESO 100% of the time as opposed to just 70% of the time.

Sadly, for you, we'll never know because BW will never go this route. They can tax Player to Player trades, which I support (though there are some pretty obvious ways to avoid this), but if it's an auto 10% reduction every month -- I'm gone.

    :csw_jabba:

    Dasty

Oh you are right, realistically it would be a very bad move. I just meant that it would be a better idea than the more rediculous 'remove all credits' suggestions because that would kill the game almost instantly.

So it would be a better solution, though still a bad one and it would bum me out a lot. So I am not seriously advocating it, though it would not make me quit either.

Calls to reset all players credits to zero might be extreme - though what would be wrong if they reduced everyone's credits to 10% - its all relative - even if you are holding stock of armors and other non credit items the buying power of those items would fall in the same way.  At least the economy could get back on the GTN instead of being through direct trades.

The current nickel and diming charges on quick travel will take forever to capture my billions - if it took me most of 10 years to accumulate this when I was playing almost every day and now I'm only inspired to play a couple of days in the week at best, its going to be some job getting me and others to spend them away.

You are on the right track here if you really want to combat both inflation and the money gap between rich and poor.

A more elegant solution though would be to 'tax' people 10% of all their money every month. That will eventually fix the economy issues.

Plus it will only make half the players quit instead of all of them in the event they remove all credits from everyone :p

  8. I feel like a lot of people are misunderstanding the intention and the options that BW realistically have. Here is the thing:

    - anything they do that would simply take players money will make a lot of people angry and/or leave. That is not an option

    - one time credit sinks are pretty useless and costly because they would have to keep making those till the end of times. Plus they would have to make them VERY expensive to have a real impact on the richest players and we all know how well that will go down

    - this measure was obviously not meant to make rich players less rich. It was meant to limit the influx of new credits and PREVENT NEW BILLIONARES. Yeah obviously it is not enough but they have to move slowly and carefully because...well just read this thread

I am not saying they implemented this well. I hear there are quite some scaling issues. And there might be better ways still. But enough measures like this will eventually work. You can't complain about inflation and about having to pay more money for stuff at the same time. Either rewards will go down or costs will go up, thats the way to prevent more inflation.

  9. So I agree with a lot that is being posted here, both the good and the bad.

The planet is visually really nice and different enough from previous ones. The story is presented in a different manner, where cutscenes are a lot longer. This is interesting because there are quite a few fascinating characters in it. The after story is also nice, though a bit more bland.

However, if you look at the map, the mob density, mob HP and the way quests and their multiple stages are done...the design is bad. It's like the dev team completely forgot about Makeb and how that planet was abandoned. IT IS NOT FUN TO GO THROUGH THE SAME MOB-FILLED CORRIDOR OVER AND OVER AGAIN. It is hard to believe that this has to be said... I do not think I will do the heroics ever again and I only do the dailies when I happen to be on the epilogue quests (the Lane questline). I literally prefer every other daily area because of the incredibly inefficient way the quests are set up.

To end on a positive, I absolutely love the new map UI. Great job on that one. It is such an immense improvement that was really needed. Awesome, so thanks for that.

  10. it feels a bit like we are stuck in spectator mode again.

I like how the new planet looks, a lot of effort obviously went into making it this beautiful and with different kinds of locations. It fits the an abandoned mining colony very well.
Also, the story is interesting and feels high stakes, though there could have been a bit more progress. It did not advance the main storyline much, just like Manaan did little for it.

My biggest problem with it though, is that nothing really seems to matter. Not who you are, your faction, your class, whether you are a mandalorian, dark or light, the decisions you make. It all ends the same and it is hard to find any new dialogue in multiple play throughs. I have not played it on every single class yet so correct me if I am wrong. But often it really feels like I could have send a companion to Ruhnuk instead of going myself.

Yeah there may be a different reason why certain events happen or there might be a different character in a cutscene but in the end its all the same. This gets even more apparant when you realise it is not your story but that of Shae. You are the companion here more or less. So that feels like having even less agency. Also, as a non-force user you pretty much always use a blaster in cutscenes even if that is not your main weapon. Nothing new, I know, but again, it does not matter who your are.

This could be the result of limited budget but it is dissapointing. One of things SWTOR had going for it is that it was interesting to see how different choices panned out. Say about KotFe and KotET what you want but choices really did make for a different experience. And with Manaan and Makeb, your faction mattered a lot for the story.

Anyway I enjoy the story, but the replayability suffers while there were A LOT of opportunities for your character or choices to have meaning and for your character to have more impact.

  11. Well you know, it is important that Nim raiders can feel vastly superior to the rest for as long as possible.

Also, this way the progression takes longer so players have more to do and are engaged over a longer period of time. The gear grind is a motivator in game after all. It is for me anyhow

  12. I was honestly surprised to see Jackie posting multiple times in a thread that pretty much calls her out. Not so much because it is something she would not usually do. But because I still have to get used to the fact that we have a community manager that does this sort of thing now.

To be clear: I think it is a good thing. I appreciate the candidness and her posts feel sincere. Doing a good job indeed.

Hmm it appears Im getting soft...time to go Imp side and kill some defenseless padawans or somesuch.

  13. It is not that strange to assume the worst considering how 7.0 and the '10-year anniversary' went down. They also announced the 7.2 date pretty late, which probably means they were not a 100% sure whether it would be ready themselves. But in the end it is a very pleasant surprise and I find myself being thankful things seem to be working out this time.

  14. When we assume that a lot of the story content from 7.2 was originally planned for 7.0, which I feel confident about. And we will not see 7.2 this year. That means it took them more than a year to finally release what was originally planned for 7.0...now that is a depressing thought. Moreso because a lot or work went into a UI which I still very much dislike, despite being used to by now.

I still like the game, I am still looking forward to the new content but man this SWTOR year has been dissapointing.

  15. My interpretation of the OP is that your ship used to be an important base of operations. Where important convo's and briefings happened. Now your ship is not even used in most cutscenes anymore.

In that sense I agree with the OP. It would be nice if it got some sort of function again. During the base game it kind of feels like your home, which is nice.

    it does kill your time.

I read that some are done in 30 something minutes.  That's sweet, but for me , with 2 gamblers all to myself, only 9 had cheated in that time,  I know it's just a daily, but does it have to take your whole day, just on that one mission, for little gain

Yeah, I completed it in about 30 minutes myself. The trick is to rotate planets. By starting the weekly (heroic) quests you can quickly travel from one planet to another. Just delete the quest when you're there and QT to the cantina. If places are still crowded, there are Rishi and Ilum that are usually quiet. When you see someone doing the same thing, reverse the order in which you rotate.

Worked like a charm for me.

  17. From this dev team? No.

This. Before 7.0 I would absolutely have, within reason. Now, I am almost ashamed to pay for my sub as it is. I would, however, pay to go back to 6.0.

Never would I have imagined they would screw up an 'expansion' this bad. They have taken away so much that I am still thinking of unsubbing at least once a week. But Ive been so loyal to this game. I really thought I would be here till the end...

  18. I feel threads about the gearing system will keep running in circles because:

    1. Raider seem not to understand why non-raiders want max gear

    2. Non-raiders seem not to understand why raiders do not want them to have max gear

I feel everyone should have acces to max gear. But that does not have to be at the same pace. If it is important that NM ops give something exclusive, then by all means make it either cosmetic or gold augments or something.

This way everyone can play how they want and keep getting rewarded for it. Grudgingly doing content because it is the only way to feel you are progressing isnt great. Just ask GSF players.
