  1. The original version of this thread is over a month old now. If people had just rerolled then, they'd be ahead of where they were when this started, but it seems enough people are just going to sit back and wait for BioWare to solve the issue, instead of handling it themselves.

Odds are pretty good you will lose one or more character names and possibly your legacy name with a server merge, and that will also upset a lot of people. I wouldn't expect any mergers anytime soon (summer at the earliest IMO), and transfers are unlikely until they are ready to allow Oceanic players to transfer to their regional servers...so you're looking at another month for that to happen.

Let me be clear: I think BioWare made a mistake in adding more servers on launch day, and with the initial stupidly low pop caps...especially since they have sharding within the servers. My servers *usually* hit "heavy" during my prime time, and I still feel like the servers are empty, but you have to live in the real world...no MMO is going to merge servers this soon after launch. Not...gonna...happen.

  2. I don't think gold farmers are going to be all that deterred by having to powerlevel a new spambot through the starter worlds to be able to get them to the fleet or capitols to spam their websites in chat or mail. I'm guessing if you *just* did the class quests with a lvl 20 or whatever running you through them it would take under an hour.
  3. I just hope part of the crafting fixes include filling in all the holes some recipe trees have. Just off the top of my head...in synthweaving, no lvl 13 light leg armors; no light armor reecipes at all in between lvl 15-21, when heavy and medium trees have quite a few.
  4. I got the CE also but that phase is done. CE has a few things but the game moves on. I doubt they will expand anything with the collectors edition and never expected them to.

Really? Because they previously said they would be adding stuff to it.

  5. - poor management decisions early in the process

    - poor choice of tech

    - poor emergent market forecast and impact of simultaneous release

I've done all the math over the years in previous threads, and I know you were there for some of them.

If the game is great it's a no-brainer to make it for the Mac - guaranteed ROI.

What is your marketing expertise? Yeah, I saw your math in pre-release threads. It was all speculation and assumptions...no hard data. If it was a poor choice of tech (engine), then nothing has changed, and if anything, is a point *against* a Mac version.

I think if EA thought a Mac version was worth the investment, they would have ordered it. It's not like EA doesn't love money or something.

  6. It's a guaranteed return on investment for an otherwise underperforming game.

Read the article - it's coming.

Don't get so defensive just because I'm right.

    Where did I say I'm against a Mac version? Oh yeah...I didn't.

I await your proof that it's a "guaranteed" ROI. If it's a guaranteed ROI, why isn't there one already?

If anyone is defensive, it's you. You seem to be the one that thinks it's some sort of personal slight that the game didn't launch with a Mac version.

  7. This was changed recently. At launch you could do this. I would take my level one to the fleet and learn crafting, talking to all the crafting trainers would bring you up to level four.

Don't know why they changed it, if it was because you could get to level four, they should of removed the xp gain from talking to trainers rather than slap yet another senseless restriction in the game, cause lord knows one thing SWTOR has too many of is senseless restrictions.

I think they added the XP to those quests so people getting to the fleet at level 9 would hit 10 before going on to the capitol worlds, because of all people in beta asking where the AC trainers were.

  8. They never, ever said that as you very well know.

And this is the recent news you need to pay attention to:

    http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/01/02/bioware-mac-version-of-star-wars-the-old-republic-is-something/

    It's coming.

But yes, it should help the drop in subscribers significantly.

LOL devs have been saying they're looking into things that will never come to fruition since I've been playing MMOs.

Your sig is kind of pointless, since anyone that can show support for a Mac native version already bought the game, played it with bootcamp or w/e, and is a current subscriber...including you. BioWare will make a native Mac version if/when they determine it is profitable. It's pretty funny that you think you know how profitable a Mac version of this game will be better than EA/BW does. Do you think they haven't made one just to spite Mac users or something?

  9. Huh? When has this changed? I could create a level 1 Jedi, hoof it to the temple, go to the fleet on hop the shuttle to Ord Mantell.

It changed a few patches ago. I would hop to the fleet first chance I got and do the "talk to the crew skills trainers" quests and gain 2 levels, and then go back. I'm guessing a lot of people did this...hence the change.

  10. Cross faction species doesn't bother me. If this means a few more people playing Republic, then more power to them.

Cross class abilites, even if PvE only and on a long timer like the Heroic Moment type buff, is double facepalm worthy.

    Let me explain....

    Species are unlocked....

So if i was to roll a Jedi Guardian as a Chiss, I would have Force abilities...

    Get it now ???

You are not seeing a Chiss agent udsing Force powers....you are seeing a Sith Sorcerer who is a Chiss...

    Its really not rocket science.

Did you even watch the video? There is either a force user using a flame thrower or a bounty hunter wielding a lightsaber. Either way spells epic fail.

  11. I noticed that after I posted =P.

Also, doesn't not doing your AC quest block you from doing the story? Now that I think about it, if it blocked your story, he had to level only through pvp cuz he couldn't go to the other planets lol.

Why would not selecting your AC block your story? Both ACs share the same story and companions.

  12. How is that me looking for attention lmao.

Because there are already massive threads about server pops, mergers, and transfers? What's the point of starting another one that going to be closed and redirected to those?

    IB4L

  13. Well, it's primetime in most of the EU and a whopping 10 servers are heavy, with none very heavy, 9 light servers, and the rest standard. Seems like quite a drop from before the Feb 20th renewals.

No one knows how many people are in fact playing this game and personally I don't care if there are 200.000 or 2.000.000 people subscribed. I will play this game as long as I like to play it and for now I still enjoy it.

You should care. 2,000,000 subs = lots of resources devoted to keep new updates flowing. 200,000 subs...not so much.

  14. Game is going to fall down soon. Either way it is gonna happen.. For instance, i will leave when my subscruption ends.. Because i dont want wondering around myself lonely..

Ilum, i was alone in Ilum for hours! I gathered all items and grinded my pvp gear.. How challanging is this right.. :/

    Bye bye Swtor.

It was fine, but not anymore..

Poster above you is correct. I don't know how much you followed this game before launch, but devs said there would not be any cross server tools because it destroys community, and yet now they are probably going to add it, at least for WZs if not for FPs/ops. They're doing this because they know they made a mistake with too many servers with too small of pop caps, and many servers are ghost towns.

They're not going to have server mergers until AT LEAST the 7 month mark (free month +6 month subs) because it is terrible PR. I've yet to see a game where server mergers helped stop a game from tanking. Maybe all the others waited too long...IDK, but I'd bet real money server mergers won't happen any time soon, regardless of how much the pop drops.

  15. Unless they have quit in the last 2 weeks, SWTOR has 1.2 million subscribers.

Where'd that 1.2 mil come from? Last I heard was 1.7 mil. I do believe it is well under 1.7 now, but 1.2 would be a pretty drastic drop meaning they've now lost 40% of their launch numbers in only two months...not quite AoC level of fail, but not far off.

  16. ...? Would it have been better to delay the release of Asia/Pacific servers just to make sure that server transfers were available on release? The amount of wtfrage on the forums is seriously mindblowing at times. Every time there is any issue whatsoever the first thought is to flip the William Wallace switch and start raging about unfairness and FREEEDOM?

No one has server transfers yet... you are not being targeted. Get over yourself.

Actually, if there was a poll, I bet this would win, since odds are the vast majority of Aussies/Kiwis interested in the game already own it, and this delay would just mean two more months of crappy ping times, instead of having to start over or end up possibly losing your character/legacy/guild names.

  17. I was wondering, how does everybody know that "servers are empty"?

It's all anecdotal, except for the part where the server select screen doesn't have a ton of very heavy servers any more. I know my two servers have fewer people at the fleet and every planet I go to than they did a month ago. Maybe they haven't cancelled (yet) and just aren't logging in because there's nothing to do once they've already maxed their toon and don't like rolling alts, but I suspect it won't be long before they do cancel.

Before launch, I predicted 500k subs at the six month mark. Now, I'll be pleasantly surprised if they have that many. Other themepark games like LotRO have more tools for people to play around with when they don't feel like running a dungeon for the 50th time. What does TOR have?

I haven't seen any sort of drop in subs. Which is odd because I figured the free month would expire and there'd be a drop. Not even 10% as far as I can tell.

But even if everyone quit I'd still be playing. Because I think for myself. If I'm having fun then I'm playing. If I'm not, then I don't.

I don't care about what any of YOU say or do. It will have no effect on ME.

BioWare itself confirmed and actually bragged about the 85% retention rate after the first month, which isn't bad these days, but the fact is they lost about 300k subs after the first month. Wanna bet that is the last time they give numbers?

I'm still enjoying the game even though I think it has serious issues, but I can't see myself sticking around more than 6 months without major changes and content additions (even if it's fluff).

  18. I have characters on two different servers. I didnt' see much of a drop after Jan 20th, but I've definitely noticed more of one after Feb 20th. I suspect it will only get worse as more people hit 50.

What is the big stress of all these subs dropping? It's not like we're going to wake up to the servers not being here anymore. All they would have to do at this point is condense half of the servers down, and they would all be populated abundantly.

This position is somewhat contradictory to your premise that pops haven't really dropped all that much. At launch, all the servers were packed...well, not really, but according to the server status they were. Now you suggest cutting the number of servers in half, which I agree with because even when the servers were "full" they felt empty to me, but says you really do believe the subs have dropped drastically.

  19. I'm sorry, I wasnt aware QQ's on the forum would speed up the transfer.

Are you new to MMOs? Forum QQ is a big driver in change.

I bet in a week they half-*** it and announce something like "Good News! Transfers to Oceanic servers will now be available March 20th!", which still screws over most people, and angers even more people by making it available the day that the 3rd month sub renewals are due.
