  1. Check out Sci-Fi Talk to see a great interview with Stephanie Lionidas and Grant Bowler, who play Nolan and Irisa. http://www.scifitalk.com/father-and-daughter-in-defiance/http://www.scifitalk.com/father-and-daughter-in-defiance/
  2. Hey everyone, I've been trying to start my own Star Wars/Entertainment blog and just posted a spoiler free review of tonights episode. I'm copying the review, here, but I would really appreciate any clicks to my site This is a day I had been waiting for since first seeing previews for this ambitious new show, and I must say that it was worth the wait. Defiance displays a beautiful tapestry of various alien cultures but connects them in a very realistic and intimate way. Though the world seems to have been changed drastically, the characters still find themselves facing challenges and rivalries that the audience can understand and relate to. The cast of the show works incredibly. Each actor really fits their role and plays them in interesting ways, causing you to question your original judgments of each character and how they need each other to exist. I would definitely say that the two actresses that impressed me the most were Stephanie Leonidas and Jaime Murray. Stephanie's portrayal as Irisa shows the girl the to be tough and dangerous, but you can tell that it is all a cover for her own insecurities and abandonment issues. It will be interesting to see as that armor cracks and we get to see her smile, or worse if her fears are proven to be right. Jaime definitely will turn a few heads playing Stahma Tarr, wife to the local crime lord. Her voice is unrecognizable as she covers her British accent and sweetly suggests horrible acts. If behind every good man is a good woman, then she is certainly the bad girl behind Defiance's bad guy. I also found the Need/Want to be a location of great interest, as you will once you enter its grungy sleazy doors. The way that this civilization acknowledges and allows their baser needs, provides an exciting location for many love scenes and fights to come. In terms of its connection to the game, this episode definitely has me excited about the DLC to come. Getting to see all the weapons that I've been using in-game now being used in the show is really exciting and its great getting to see how the blasts look close up in high definition. Though it raises new questions for me in the game, (like when I will start seeing certain species) players of the game are already familiar with the 99ers and some other species that have yet to be shown yet it the show. This cross-teasing is really interesting and I'm excited to see what new episode content goes live after tonights premiere. Overall I'd say that the pilot was very well done fitting in a good amount of action, while still starting to give some really interesting information about the world that we are entering. Some people (not I) have commented that Game of Thrones tends to take a little while to get going every season by having to talk so much and introduce so many characters, but this show introduces the cast in a quick and sweet way that give you a believable look at this rag tag civilization, and don't get me started on Bear McCreary's music, it was all over the place perfectly accenting every mood. I can't wait to see episode 2.
  3. I understand that, Thracken Sal-Solo was a jerk. But they are saying that it was the great great granddaughter of Han and Leia. The writers of the series said it themselves in an interview with Rebelscum.com, you can read it here And she is a solo that is force sensitive, while Han and his side of the family weren't. Anyone have anything?
  4. I was thinking about this last night and its still been bugging me. The new Legacy series supposedly follows Ania Solo, the great great granddaughter of Han and Leia. Here’s my question though, HOW!? Jaina is married to Jag Fel and her children lead the way to the next Fel legacy that will rule the Empire for generations using the last name FEL. Jacen may be dead, but his daughter still lives, but her children probably wouldn’t be named Solo, and they would probably be tied to the Hapan court. Anakin is dead after only recieving a kiss, so theres no way the kids are his. So who the hell is Ania Solo related to!?
  5. I'm excited to see Darth Krayt come into play in the upcoming novels and it got me thinking. We have seen him lure people to the dark side before, and manipulate shared histories, so do you think we will see any of that between him and Tahiri? I've wanted to see more about Tahiri interacting with Sand People, and it could be fun to see how that works out.
  6. Caedus (Loved his rise and fall, most relatable Darth ever) Vestara Khai (Made the Fate of the Jedi series for me, so excited to see what happens with her and Krayt) Bane (Most bad *** sith ever, and only his followers would know) Lumiya (I loved the fact that she mentored Caedus, but never acted like she was more powerful, a truly supportive Sith, would love to read something about what happened between her disappearance after the comics and Legacy of the Force) Exar Kun (The first true Sith Lord that I ever encountered in the comics, and still one of my favorites) Ulic Qel-Droma (Loved him in all of the Tales of the Jedi stuff and redemption, and the way they hint at the Qel-Droma legacy in Kotor) Revan (Of course everyone loves revan, because we all ARE revan. If you know who he is, it's because you probably played as him and love what he did, because you made the decisions for him) Mara Jade (I miss her.....) Zannah (really excited to see what happens when she comes back, and would love to hear about what happens after her)
  7. I actually really liked the Fate of the Jedi series. I liked the way that it had everyone trying adapt to new roles. Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of Luke Skywalker, so I'm enjoying watching the next generation take more of a lead. And I'm a big fan of Vestara Khai's internal struggle. I also would recommend the Young Jedi Knight series. It's written by a couple that has written some of my favorite Star Wars stories, and it connects to alot of stuff in the other books, including the introduction of Tenel Ka and the Emperors Plague. It's also fun because since they are written for teens, they are all quick, easy reads that you can do it a couple hours.
  8. I'd recommend the Tales of the Jedi series. They make up a great epic story and are written by people who have had a lot of influence in the EU. It is the main source that this game was based off.
  9. I think everyone can agree that the prequel trilogy was pretty unique. And I highly doubt that you would stop reading EU considering you write such good quality stuff set in a time so far away from Skywalker. I'm actually in the process of re-reading the Thrawn trilogy, it's re-sparking my appreciation for Mara and Thrawn, I just have a hard time relating with Luke in most material. I feel that he jumped to the Master role way to soon, one of the reasons I like older periods and the future is that there are more people that have been through things, and it isn't just Luke Skywalker Superstar always leading the way and guessing what to do. Even with a larger group of Jedi, he is so separated from the rest that they can't possibly see him as an equal.
  10. My turn to catch up on the discussion. First of all, the Sith in Legacy do not represent the Sith from Fate of the Jedi. The One Sith movement had been existing on Korriban for a long time, talking to Lumiya even before Caedus's rise. Vestara even lied about their presence so that the Jedi have no idea of their existence or location. I think that Legacy is a great contribution to the canon. One of the things I love about Episode 3, is that years before we knew that one day this movie would have to come out, and Anakin would HAVE to fall to the dark side, and the galaxy would HAVE to go to hell. With Legacy it told us that in 130 years the galaxy would be a very different place and that a lot of stuff would have to happen before we got there. As for the ranking of Canon, Star Wars has been incredible in the sense that their canon all connects. Whenever I read a Star Wars book new things that spark my interest, which in turn make me want to read more books. I remember reading about Lumiya my first time and being completely drawn in by the character. Getting my hands on marvel issues and getting a chance to see her lightwhip in action. I remember reading Krayt's real name and looking into his youth. A side character in a video game can become a main attraction one day, if the fans blog enough about it, and now everyone is takes every detail so seriously (see people's reaction to Mass Effect books) Star Wars isn't going to ditch any characters that they've invested that much time, money and attention towards. It would be a waste.
  11. I highly recommend the Darth Bane Trilogy. Drew is an amazing writer, and it helps connect the actions of Revan with the more modern Star Wars era with the creation of Bane's legacy.
  12. Hell yes! That way they can get around having to cast Luke Leia and Han. The reason no post Return of the Jedi movies are being made.
  13. Dude.... Luke is totally a God............................................HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. I know its blasphemes, but I'm way more a fan of EU than the movies, so I really don't have that much love for Luke Skywalker. I love Mara, Lumiya, Jacen, Jaina, Amelia, Anakin Solo, Ben Skywalker, Cade Skywalker, Vestara Khai, Savage Opress, Darth Bane, Starkiller, Juno, Exar Kun, Ulic Qel Droma, Darth Revan, even Bastilla, the Nightsisters, Krayt, Tahiri, Abeloth, Talon, Kyle, Deliah, Maladi, Nihl, Sion, Wyyrlok, even Jag Fel, but not much love for Luke Skywalker. More than half the people I just listed would destroy Luke in a 1 on 1 match in their primes. When Luke isn't cheating double teaming through the Spirit world.
  14. The problem with making EU books into movies is that they are way to big and imaginative. Rereading Heir to the Empire recently I kept being taken away by the big scenes and action that were described. Just the amount of stuff that happens in it is so hard to fit into a movie, let alone get it right. Or they could be like game of thrones and be 10 hours per book (if only). If you look at a lot of the comic adaptations of the books, they lose a lot of the material. Anyways, enough of my ramblings. As a standalone movie I think that Darth Bane would be my first pick. It is one of my favorite SW books. It's pretty separated from everything else, so it's not like suddenly making a movie in the middle of the Vong war, or at the end of Caedus's rule. It has tons of characters that haven't been acted before, and the ending would be crazy. If I could get a TV show though, I'd like to see the Tales of the Jedi or Junior Jedi Knights as a series. I'm a big fan of Kevin Anderson and his wife's work. It had lots of nice little stories that would be great for episodes, while still had a great overall arc and plot to them.
  15. SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS ONLY READ IF YOU READ EXPANDED UNIVERSE AND ARE COMFORTABLE READING ABOUT LEGACY OF THE FORCE, FATE OF THE JEDI, LEGACY, AND RUMORS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS ONLY READ IF YOU READ EXPANDED UNIVERSE AND ARE COMFORTABLE READING ABOUT LEGACY OF THE FORCE, FATE OF THE JEDI, LEGACY, AND RUMORS :)SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS ONLY READ IF YOU READ EXPANDED UNIVERSE AND ARE COMFORTABLE READING ABOUT LEGACY OF THE FORCE, FATE OF THE JEDI, LEGACY, AND RUMORS :)SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS ONLY READ IF YOU READ EXPANDED UNIVERSE AND ARE COMFORTABLE READING ABOUT LEGACY OF THE FORCE, FATE OF THE JEDI, LEGACY, AND RUMORS :)SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS ONLY READ IF YOU READ EXPANDED UNIVERSE AND ARE COMFORTABLE READING ABOUT LEGACY OF THE FORCE, FATE OF THE JEDI, LEGACY, AND RUMORS I thought that they had said that it was a possibility. To kind of leave it up in the air as to whether the the events that changed the who was sitting on the throne actually helped save the future. Personally I think that completely ditching everything from Legacy is a waste of some really cool material. I just had a thought and maybe its just a good idea for a fanfic, but if the events of Legacy were a "What If" or just one alternate reality path that the universe could have taken, then a lot of the characters and developments still have to be there. Ex: If there is a reality in which i ate an apple and I ended up growing up to be a doctor, and another reality in which I didn't eat an apple and became a lawyer. Yes my decision would change some of the galaxy, but most people that were going to be born would still be born, and most stuff would still happen. We know that Krayt exists. He has been in almost every recent comic series and now in the books. We know that Jaina and Tahiri, two Jedi with a huge caution towards the dark side are getting cozy with the Imperials, and that the Imperials have been looking for force users to join their ranks and are tired of Sith. We know the "One Sith" are on Korriban from the Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi series, and we know that Vestara knows that there are Sith on Korriban, and that her and ship are very good at helping groups grow from a single ship to a fleet. Notice that in Legacy there is no mention of Abeloth, if stopping her saved the future, it didn't stop the future that Legacy was, because Abeloth never ruled that galaxy. We also have no reason to believe that Vestara and Ben do not eventually have get married or have children. There hasn't been any mention of what happened to Ben Skywalker in any of the Legacy material. They could even have an illegitimate child (like so many people in Ben's family), then Ben could save the child and raise it Jedi while she dies a Sith. There has been a lot of talk about Zahn doing books post Fate of the Jedi in which Ben helps the Empire of the Hand and they work with a clone of Grand Admiral Thrawn to help "save the galaxy." They've promised that Crucible will tell us a lot about what's to come. Another think to discuss getting back to this book, here are two definitions of crucible: 1: A ceramic or metal container in which metals or other substances may be melted or subjected to very high temperatures. 2: A place or occasion of severe test or trial: "the crucible of combat". Which definition do you think applies to the upcoming book? Will there be some kind of Crucible Device (ME3 much?) of unknown power? Will they build it or discover it? OR..........Is the crucible merely alluding to a test or trial of the body, mind, or heart?
