  1. To take out the trinity system is to take out respective roles in which govern almost every single group ever formed in an MMO or to put it another way, to take out one of the most important aspects of an MMO... Roles. The trinity system exists (as others have said) because it works. The tank is built for defense and takes the brunt of the assault, the DPS is equipped to deal the most damage quickly, and the healer is there to keep everyone alive and healthy. Given the bosses and mobs in dungeons and flashpoints, you will find no better system. This way of fighting promotes teamwork, identity, a guide for gearing, and the most effective way of proceeding through a dungeon. Want to know of a game that completely got rid of this? Guild wars 2. I played guild wars 2 happily up to about level 36 or so under the impression that there were roles, up until I did my first dungeon. I read on their website about how they abolished the system and immediately quit. I tried going back to it but utterly cant stand logging into that boring game for more than 5 minutes. If you don't have the trinity system, you have nothing, no structure in a group. Everyone is just... damage. No one takes the brunt of the assault, no one heals and everyone just kind of zergs through content. And since everyone is basically damage, all the classes you get to choose from are give or take the same. What's really the difference between an elementalist and a mesmer, besides the not so different spells? Nothing. Not having a trinity system creates a homogenous feel between classes. Then one can argue even further, why bother having classes at all, or if there are no tanks because of no trinity system, why bother having heavy armor, for what purpose? Why bother having anything that identifies differences among classes since in retrospect they are all the same and can do everything? Then my friend, why even bother calling it an MMORPG?
  2. It could be something like the sith corruption where you have an option to turn it on or off
  3. Hey guys, I just had an idea that I thought would be kind of cool. We all know that if you go down the path of obtaining dark side points you get Sith corruption and it makes your character look more evil. What if there was some form of a lightside non-corruption appearance, which would make your character look like a saint? Kind of like in fable, your guy would slowly get blond hair blue eyes, and would have a halo around his head instead of horns. I'm not suggesting a halo lol but something to look at to show that we worked hard getting all those lightside points. Thanks
  4. When I play sith, I always like to go full on dark side, and make my character look as evil as humanly possible. So I always show sith corruption, it just helps with my role-playing. This isn't my character, but I would vote for it being one of the scariest true looking sith I've seen in the game. The body type 3, black armor with robe, shoulder pads, and the sith corruption makes him look ****** . He actually looks like a sith.
  5. Thank you guys for your input. Interesting reads.
  6. No yea, you're absolutely right. I guess my quarrels are mostly with the star wars universe itself not just swtor. I guess (to me) the mass effect universe seems more futuristic in a sense of the "techyness" and how it was mostly based around real life physics. Like if you ever wanted to know how the normandy got around in FTL travel, you could go to the codex and learn about element-zero. They gave you an actual sci-fi explanation of how the physics and everything worked. In star wars, "O how do lightsabers work." Well, you put a crystal in the hilt, use the force, and bam! I know that's probably not entirely how it works but I'm sure you see the difference .
  7. Unfuturistic. I guess this is not just relatable to SWTOR but to the movies as well. Everything just seems fake and not inspired by anything that is extremely high-tech. I know for the most part things *seem* futuristic, with coruscant, droids, space travel. But they don't (atleast for me) *feel* futuristic. I'll point some stuff out to help illustrate my point. - Speeders: Why do these go painstakingly slow? I remember getting my first speeder, I was so excited to finally be able to travel at high speeds. That is until I actually saw the movement speed. -Dead worlds: Anyone else feel as if the outer rim worlds are a little bare and empty? I just can't put my finger on it. -Weapons: For a civilization that has colonized almost the entire galaxy, why are we still using weapons that look like we just got them out of a world war 2 museum? I mean come one... where are the haze beams, or disintegration rays? -Lack of ground shields-: You would think that every personnel carrying a fire arm at least would have some basic form of shielding tech that protects them from enemy fire. Something like Mass Effect. -Ships: Bland, bland and more bland. I feel like the ships are just places that take you from point A to point B. Wheres the customizable options? Surely with all the corporations and businesses on Corellia have designed adding and taking apart ship parts. Not to mention color hues and weapon designs. I'm sure I can think of more but I'll stop for now. I mean this as by no means an attack on Star wars, I think it's a great game, I just feel like its missing a lot of stuff that you would think a civilization that has almost conquered the entire galaxy would have. I guess it just doesn't have that *feel* like Im in the future warding off high-tech enemies. Things like Star trek, or Mass Effect really do the job well done in this aspect imo. And that is to say that in the Mass Effect universe, the time is only like a century and a half from where we are at now. Anyone else share this?
  8. I agree, it's pretty laughable when mobs on foot can almost catch up to you while you're on your mount. They really need to increase the speed.
  9. Honestly, you can play the game however you want, but there are these things called rules that you must follow. For instance: it takes (for the sake of argument) 50,000 xp to go from level 24-25. You can't just say, "well, I want to play the game my way... Bioware!!!! Reduce the amount of xp needed from 24-25 to only 10,000. Stop hating on me guys, Let me play the game how I want to play it." See how childish that sounds? No one is hindering your game experience, nor are we telling you how to play. We are simply informing you that you must operate under the set and established rules of the game. You have a level 40 sniper but want to change to an operative. Reroll. Stop being lazy, just do it. It's the way the game was designed.
  10. Not to mention the looting nightmare that will ensue if this is going to happen. Imagine the griefing that would occur when people ninja loot from lfg. "But dude, I can just change my AC to use this."
  11. Because you're being forced to click on them and post how annoyed you are, right?
  12. Just because one of the developers stated in an interview that they are going to put this in the game later on down the road doesn't all of a sudden make it a good design decision. For all I know from reading these forums is that people complained their heads off, till they got what they wanted.
  13. Not to mention similarity in design is not enough to warrant a class change.
  14. Your skill tree is supposed to offer even more customization into what your character specifically does. Often times it decides your role you are correct. However customization options are meant to be changed, whereas your class that broadly defines who your character is are not.
  15. Responses in blue. Bad at quoting. Sorry
  16. I think it's fair to have someone choose their advanced class at level 10. They tell you multiple times that its a permanent decision and they even let you take a quick peak at the trees. When you create your character you get to read about the different play styles each advanced class brings to the table. It's not like its hard information to find. The character creation screen at the top has everything you need to know about what you are choosing.
  17. You're right, they do share some skills. However Bioware stated that an advanced class is supposed to function like its own class. I know you hate WoW examples, but that's like saying just because a Warlock is similar to playstyle as a mage, its okay to change. What I was saying at the beginning, it cheapens the choice you make at level 10 and destroys a lot of class diversity. If every can just switch on will, why even have the whole trek to level 10 to choose your advanced class?
  18. Please point out to me what didn't make sense. I don't know how I can be more clear...
  19. Sith sorcerers and Sith assassins have entirely different play styles and mechanics, but you're okay with switching them? We're simply explaining what it would be like. Your advanced class is your style of play, period. A Sith sorcerer is an entirely different class than a Sith assassin, with the exception of a shared tree. To switch that, would be switching something like our WoW examples. The advanced classes were meant to be their own classes. Please understand that. Don't just dismiss it thinking you know what it means. Their......own......classes. I would prefer if someone wants to be a different advanced class, they would stop being lazy and level one. What you want is something that is supposed to be worked for, for free. Would I go up to my boss and say, "Hey, I'm just gonna sit over here and watch all you guys work. But i'll be right here. You'll still pay me right?"
  20. Because classes were never meant to be changed on the fly. Many people have said in this thread, changing your advanced class would be like changing from a Druid to a Mage in WoW. If you want to be a Mage, roll a level 1 mage and work your way up, simple as that. Yes, I know this isn't WoW but this issue is very similar to the above. If you rolled a Sith sorcerer, that's your class. Changing from a Sith sorcerer to a Sith assassin would be extremely detrimental to diversity of classes. Not to mention those two have very different play styles. The bottom line, advanced class switching cheapens the decision you make at level 10 and allows people to roll the flavor of the month class and do whatever they want. I honestly hope that advanced class switching never makes it into the game. If that interview is legit, the one where they say that it is only a matter of time until AC switching gets put in, then this game is going to hit an iceberg. (If one was not hit already.)
  21. I just wish they would let us change the color of the UI itself. The light blue is getting kind of old, plus it doesn't fit my sith characters
  22. Ah dang . I really think the old classic sith attire, like their robes and accessories, look awesome!
