  1. Example please? Not saying you're lying, just curious as I've never seen it before. You can't really compare this level of voice acting to hearing NPC's spout off one-liners when you right-click them. The originality is in how it will be implemented. I am talking about the family tree thing and what-not. Really it depends on how it is implemented. They were somewhat vague in the video, but it seems like it will be a pretty original way to give account-wide benefits. 1. You are comparing single player games to MMO's. Two different worlds. 2. That choice was like a single moment in the game that had no impact on the story and in no way had any impact on whether Aeris dies or not. Not that it matters much if we are comparing single player rpgs to mmo's because convo choices have become a staple of western rpgs in the last few years. Groundbreaking may be a bit of hyperbole, but you still cannot compare single player rpg's to MMO's. It is like comparing a first person shooter to a racing game.
  2. I'm not saying they've never hinted at familiarity or anything like that, but I guarantee there was more publicity about what they were doing differently than what would be the same as WoW.
  3. Hehehe. Like I said in my post it is a horribly flawed comparison. But, I notice you couldn't resist in the last half of your post
  4. If I see one more comparison to WoW, my head might explode. This game has never said it was trying to be WoW. From the get-go, it has been advertising itself as being different than most MMO's. Companion system - Never been done before. Voice acting - Never been done before (not at this scale, at least). Legacy system - Obviously not out yet, but very unique. Conversation choices, which make a difference in how a story unfolds - Unheard of. Heck, even the way the game is played is somewhat unique. I've never experienced combat quite as frantic, and mentally demanding as this game. Am I saying the game is perfect? Of course not. They obviously have work to do. As long as the patches keep rolling out, I will be perfectly happy to keep my subscription going. To go to the car analogy everybody is so fond of using (as flawed as it is), all of these comparisons is kind of like buying a mustang and being upset because it can't haul as much weight as that truck that was released seven years ago, even though it was never advertised to haul weight.
  5. In terms of a brand new MMO? More specifically, this brand new MMO? Yes.
  6. I suppose I'm having too much fun with my alts, then. Am I doing it wrong? Hahaha. This post has a resounding amount of truth to it. I came to the forums to see what people would be posting about and got hooked into all the trolling. Back to the game for me I suppose
  7. I look at it this way. The features people are complaining about the game not having (most of which I would like as well eventually) are things that can be added with relative ease. However, a game like WoW cannot simply add this amount of story and depth. They cannot suddenly include conversation choices or extremely good voice acting without it coming off as awkward and cheesy. This game has something that no other MMO can offer as of right now.
  8. Seriously. All anyone has to bring up is the features that TOR lacks while ignoring some of the awesome things it brought to the table. The voice acting is top notch, and the storyline elements that it adds makes questing more than just being about completing the objective and getting the rewards. It adds a human element to the table, and I find that I actually care about my characters as people in the world, as opposed to being an avatar with stats which is what I got from other MMO's. The companion system is amazing. No other MMO has a "pet" system that is close to being as useful and dynamic as this. You can let your companion act on it's own, which it usually does fairly well. If you want more control, you can manually control the companion on your own. They are quite smart on their own as well, going as far as not breaking CC on enemies. The crafting system has another element added. Disassembling items to improve upon the schematics is very rewarding. Flashpoints, which are basically the same as dungeons. However now there is actually a story to care about. The class system is role-bending to say the least. Healers do not get killed in one to two hits by a boss. Every role is challenging, and being successful requires a fair bit of teamwork. Dark side/Light side alignment, while simple in nature, adds another enjoyable layer of depth to the game. On a final note: I pointed a gun at a child's head to force a woman to give back some medicine she stole. Name one other MMO that gives you an option to do that during a quest. This game may lack certain features of MMO's you are used to, but it has much to offer in exchange. Not only that, but the features will be added in due time, and bugs will get fixed. Enjoy what the game offers. If you are not interested in what it offers, leave.
  9. That doesn't even make sense in terms of the "mmo-market". No game has been polished right at launch. Every game took time to implement all of the features that fans wanted.
  10. Not saying that Error 9000 doesn't exist, but I've never experienced. I had the game lock up one time on a loading screen. And that's out of the many many hours I've played. That's pretty good.
  11. 1. This game has attracted a lot of players who are new to MMO's. These players do not understand the nuances involved with MMORPG's. This amount of bugs in a normal RPG would be unacceptable. These people do not understand the difference between the two. 2. WoW attracted a lot of new MMO players. Those players played WoW for years, and again, do not understand the nuances of MMO's at launch because WoW was their only experience. It's a similar mindset of the first example of people. 3. People love to complain. 4. WoW people... Do not seem to have a very high level of intelligence. I base this off of people I know in real life who play WoW, and people who I've spoken with on voice chat in Rift who flocked to Rift to find a WoW replacement. I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but whatever. I'm not saying if you played WoW you are stupid, but it is something that seems to have some consistency with the people I talk to. This game is very polished for a brand new MMO. I've been playing since late beta. I've beta tested a few MMO's, and have not even bothered to stick around through the beta for most of them because of how terrible they were at launch, and even those games had limited success. Give it time, enjoy leveling a few alts with other crafting professions. Are you doing 90% of the same thing? Yes. But that is what the spacebar is for. My alts are leveling ten times faster than my first character simply because I just mash spacebar through everything except class quests. And if you truly do not like this game. Quit playing. Quit posting flame threads. Quit comparing it to a 7 year MMORPG that all I hear is complaints about these days. If you want to play a WoW clone, play Rift.
  12. I agree that the game could use a bit quicker methods of travel. Though it isn't terrible the way it is. It would be nice to have an additional CD for quick travel to ship.
