But that's just the thing. They don't want "more." They yammer incessantly about how the game isn't innovative out of one side of their mouths, calling it a WoW clone, and then proceed to comlpain bitterly that it doesn't have features X, Y and Z that WoW has. It's an irrational temper tantrum and nothing more.
It's because the things WoW has have become industry standard, just like an air conditioner in a car.
Sure, you don't need a combat log, but damn, it sure is nice to have one.

Superior? I lol'd.
We all know TOR > WoW or GW2.
I know a game that has major issues acknowledged by the developers is better than the most populated MMO and an unreleased one.
-
It is whining to demand a quality product for our money? At the moment there is no reason to pay for TOR as long as superior titles exist. WoW, GW2 on the horizon, even multiple free titles look and play better than TOR. It is not our fault. BioWare and indeed all game designers must be held accountable to a high standard of quality.
BioWare used to have that sense of quality. Kotor I, Mass Effect I, Origins, Baldur's Gate, etc. Those were all quality titles that I enjoyed immensely. But with Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age 2, and now TOR, the decline in quality is obvious.
We gamers want *good* games. It's why I'll play CdProjeckt's Witcher series and recommend it to friends instead of BioWare games.
It feels more like Bioware is changing target audiences to more casual gamers, making most things streamlined, and when you throw in some corner cutting here and there, it shows majorly to people who have come to expect more from a company.

As an estimate, I'd say so.
There's a LOT of voice-acting, a LOT of models, a LOT of writing, a LOT of space in the worlds (Tattoine comes to mind), etc.
Not to mention that there's still stuff being developed.
I'm sorry, what? Space in a game is a MAJOR cost now?

Lowered the bar on lazy and entitled too, IMO.
Seems to have somehow induced temporal amnesia in some too, because they seem oblivious to the state of WoW at launch and want to hold SWTOR to a Launch+7-years standard. I guess this is the modern version of living in the moment.
Wanting a finished engine that doesn't need two .exe's makes me a troll.

The UI in TOR works just fine.
Now, YOU are talking about ability responsiveness. Which is totally different. (stop saying this is an UI thing when it's an ability thing) And ability responsiveness is sucky, I agree.
LOLno. Ever had a companion come back from a crafting mission while you were doing something else that for some reason REQUIRES the right side window?
-
I think that's true in some cases but not all. What some people perceive as a missing feature or shortcoming does not mean all people will.
And some people can see good in the game, just not enough good to justify spending $15 a month on it.
-
Lotro and a number of MMO's that people write of as failures are going fine. it just shows you how meaningless these players are that say 'this game will fail". Meanwhile these games just like SWTOR will be around for years and make millions!!
Not exactly fail, but it also won't be as big as I and many other people had hoped it to be. Or then again, they may add in a patch that makes everything perfect, and we can all dance and rejoice.

Okay, I'll give that to you...kind of. So far lineage 2 (as a free game mostly), aion (to a certain market), and city of heroes/villains have all been received as good games.
But even so, history also shows us that just because a company did good work in the past, doesn't mean they'll keep doing so in the present/future. I'm just saying, pretty much everything that came after WoW has failed to really catch a large player base after 2~3 months of release. And most of those games were all hyped up and said to be 'the wow killer' and 'so much better' and all that. So it's stupid to think that GW2 will be that much better.
Aye, I don't really plan on buying GW2, and I don't think anything will beat out WoW for a few simple reasons, one of which being it can appeal to both types of gamers, and another being it's used by so many people, you can get involved easily with a friend who plays it.
I'm not saying it will kill WoW, and I think any game that tries to tote itself as that is setting itself up for failure, but I do think the launch will be better than this one, at least feedback wise. I have enjoyed parts of this game, but I'm not much of a carrot-on-a-stick being the only way to have fun in it, which is pretty much all I've seen.
Then again, I came from SWG, so I may be a bit biased.

Enjoy Cash Shop Pay 2 Win 2..I MEAN...Guild Wars 2.
So far in the beta, you mean an XP boost? Because leveling faster makes you better at a class/profession/skill

If you're looking to get into the lore after the Battle of Endor, I HIGHLY recommend the Thrawn trilogy, by Timothy Zahn. He's a great writer, and Thrawn is my favorite Star Wars character due to his depth and brilliance.
Old republic was pretty much covered in the post before me.
Most Star wars books are good, and I enjoyed Karen Traviss's work on the Clone Commandos, though not her work on Legacy of the Force. However, LotF is a must read, after the Jedi Academy series. I wish I'd never read any of them, just so I could read them all again.

Won't even look at GW2, i thought the first one was awful. Know a number of people that feel the same way.
That may be, but that wasn't my point. The poster I quoted stated something along the lines of hyped things being bad.
Oh, and I missed it, but I'm pretty sure LotRo is still going strong?
-
Species: Yuuzahn Vong - Highly resolute, scary, fanatics about purity.
Creature: Tie between Sarlaac and like a poster before me stated, the crystalline arachnids of the Kessel Spice mines.
-
LOL! SWTOR was hugely hyped, and now people like you are whining. Instead you are hugely hyping GW2 now. Be prepared to be underwhelmed, or even disappointed! You know why I say this? Because history repeats itself. This very same scenario happened with DDO, AoC, LotRo, Aion and DCUO. GW2 has a VERY MINUTE chance of changing this trend, and I doubt they'll succeed.
Sure, I'll play GW2 most likely. But to hype it up as 'well TOR failed but GW2 will be awesome!' is just stupid.
But see, GW2 isn't being developed by people who's games have been declining since they were bought. See DA:2 and to an extent ME2. A very minute extent. As well, GW2 isn't being pushed on the Single-player aspect of a Massive-MULTIPLAYER Online game. Which puzzles me when people say that this was meant to be an MMO, when the standard Developer response to being bored at end-game is to roll another character for the story.
-
If you say so. At least WoW doesn't run on a single threaded engine that needs two .exe's to run properly.
-
Didn't know where else to rant.
Don't have the changes people want in this game pertain to something SWG ALREADY had? I miss SWG. People say this game is better, the only way I can see it is is for casual players who literally do NOT have more than two hours at a time on, as you could get a fair amount done in SWG in two hours, and the voice overs. It had quests. No, they weren't out at launch, but they were there, and more diverse than the ones in this game. And hell, Legacy was one big *** long quest from 5-55/60ish. Sure, it got boring (NABOO), but it was an interesting story. Kashyyk was a themepark. I never did like it as much as I did the other planets, but I liked it.
It had player housing. It was nice to go into random peoples houses and leave them a mail telling them you liked their decor, then getting a mail back thanking you. To have a house on a mountain side, with windows, just sitting and chatting with your friends in the house, and watching the sun set.
That may be part of what I'm missing too. The feeling of community SWG had. Sure, you'd ride your speeder around Tantooine, out in the desert, and rarely come across someone, but if you wanted companionship, it was as easy as going to Mos Eisley. Or Coronet. You could hit up almost anyone to help you. In SWTOR, I've run people through a few FPs, but it doesn't feel nearly the same as helping someone in a SWG instance. I'm sorry, but so far, NK Necrosis as a Ent buffed Dark Jedi was harder than these Flashpoints. I'm not max yet, but is there anything that can compare to the DWB? Where even experienced groups wiped, after the AI re-upgrade?
I also miss the openness.. Even the vast deserts of Tantooine rarely felt...empty. There was always something. And the things that made it more real, like on Naboo. Little things, like butterflies flitting among the grass, or leaves floating down from trees. Or even a Sandstorm on Tantooine. Things that made it more than just a game. Things that made it like a second home.
I have alot more to say, but I guess it's comparing apples to oranges. A sandbox to a theme park. Even WoW was less themeparkish, at least to me. And no, not current day OMGSOPOLISHED WoW either. This game feels like someone tried to splice KOTOR and an MMO, which I guess is what resulted. It has all the grindiness of an MMO, with some OK story-telling. I'm trying to like it, but....I don't really like the carrot-on-a-stick way of playing. I keep finding myself just wanting to get to the next level. Why? To get to the level after. Why? To get to fifty. Why? To get the best gear. Then what? Wait for the next expansion or level an alt. Oh, but you can enjoy the AMAZING STORY TELLING. (spoilers) Yeah, I figured out by the time I was 25 on my SW that Baras would betray me and I would have to kill him.
I don't know. I just miss my old house and my Chuba.

Actually, you can if you want. So 10 people in a guild thought they were getting thousands of credits legally earned ?
Perma-ban the ones who did exploiting. Investigate where the cash went and ban/punish those receiving.
Anyone using GTN for huge amounts too. No one explects a lvel 4 green to sell for 50K.
It is there game, they don't need a conviction in a criminal court.
What?
"Oh thanks Joe, I'm glad you gave me some credits to help me level!"
"You're being banned for receiving exploited credits"
Yes, some people give away credits legally earned. I am bored with the class story, so I do space dailies. Aside from purchasing the space upgrades when needed, I do gift things to my guild. How dare I.
Note: The top level space dailies/missions can rake you in roughly 100k/hr, so yes. Some people CAN have over five or ten million credits legally.
-
So curious what is being done about this....it is clear on my server people exploited it when u see people selling items for a million credits....as well as lots of people running around with that 1.5m credit speeder....heck there was a guy on my server who had one before dec 20....go figure.. I am on the prophecy of the five server.
The economy is messed up do to this...anyone with 5 or 10m credits or more should be punished cuz they clearly exploited....any legit players do not have this kind of money....take the money away and ban or just leave these offenders with 5000 ccredits.
Did this post from my phone so I hope it looks ok.
Or they sold something to an player who exploited? No, no, no. You do not ban someone simply because they have a certain amount of money.
-
Yes, but none of that went towards the free game time.
How do you know that? Pretty sure the "free" was included with the game, and could have been a rationalization to some as paying $45 and the first month.
-
Perhaps I'm missing the point, but... It's free.
If someone says to me "I'll give you $1,000 for free", but they only give me $20... I still come out ahead.
You didn't lose anything whatsoever, so how exactly is this a "rip off"?
Ah, but see, he payed sixty at the least to begin with.

Besides the fact that anyone who has even an ounce of working brain matter in their SKULL realizes that Bioware has done far more amazing things then Blizzard has. Yea sure, Blizzard is famous for . . . WoW. Starcraft. Diablo. Thats about it.
But BioWare is famous for dozens of games all over the board, all over the world: Mass Effect, Baldur's Gate, Dragon Age, the ORIGINAL KoTOR game (marked as one of the best games ever created mind you . . .), among others. Almost all of them groundbreaking and revolutionary games.
And BioWare, in the past few years, was also bought out by EA, another massive Developer of groundbreaking games. The Battlefield Series, Burnout Series, Command and Conquer series, Need For Speed series, the Metal of Honor games . . . anyone ever heard of The Sims games? The most popular and successful Computer game series in history?
Yea, you know what, compared to Bioware/EA I wouldn't trust Blizzard with a piece of string, let alone the rights to making a Star Wars game. if you think Bioware cant make a good game, when the game your PLAYING by them is quite amazing, then get out. You obviously dont know what your doing with your life, and you certainly dont have any sense about games.
BioWare knows how to do things right, whether you WoW-Rager-Defenders want to admit it or not.
Ok, hold up. I'm not completely arguing with you, but implying that Starcraft isn't as world famous as ANY bioware game? Pshaw. And Warcraft, not WoW, is also a pretty good game. And EA didn't develop the Battlefield series, nor the C&C series, they published them.
I love Bioware. They make great games, (DA2 didn't happen), but some things in this game have not been done right. Not saying it's not a great game, but not everyone that complains is a fan of WoW either.
Also, just because something is popular, doesn't mean it's great. Justin Bieber is popular.

i never knew how much i'd miss not having a forum search before now. Probably because i've never been on a forum that didn't have one. Should i be saying thank you for the search or for getting your *edit* together?

Pretty sure the Sun Crusher wasn't destroyed by a ''Rebel Offensive", but by Kyp Durron who redeemed himself by charting it into a black hole in the Maw, which is where all of these super weapons were designed, by isolated scientists who were extremely intelligent.

I'd say Abeloth would be the strongest so far, based on the books that are out so far, with Luke not so far behind. That may change as the final two come out though.
Is SWTOR the victim of WOW burnout?

Enlighten us and compare the issues admitted by the developers here and the ones on WoW. Gameplay issues, not social/exploitation issues, because I mean, let's face it. That credit exploit that allowed people to gain millions of credits an hour? Good bye economy.
