Where you are making a fatal error in you thinking is believing that the casual players won't continue to support this game....Bioware already knows that is where their audience is and has even said that the game will move even further in that direction. Star Wars aside casual players love this game and are very happy with it; and I'm sorry but that is a huge demographic. GW2 has already said that it plans for their game to be brutal even in leveling, folks are bored senseless with WoW despite them basically walking you to Deathwing and handing you the armor (so much for Dungeons are hard eh?) TSW isn't going to be niche even Funcom says so.
What's left for casual players and those that want a Story based MMO? It's foolish to think that just because TOR doesn't have your demographic that it will automatically fail.
Just consider me the cold Pimp slap of reality.
I love this game but they need server merges or transfers soon because people are quitting because of no one to play with.
-
This game is definitely losing subs, and the major problem now is that if they dont address server merges soon, they will only lose more people.
I know my server at release had way more people than it has now. Fleet went from 180 people nightly to just over 100 now.
Many many complaints across several message boards about dead servers. so fanboys, if you think this game is not losing subs you have blinders on. Not only that, this game does not have good word of mouth lately.
-
Some of the servers, like more than 1/2 are struggling now, population wise. What is Biowares plan to address this problem?
Is there a plan in place for server merges?
Will this happen soon?
You stand to lose more people if you do not do something soon.

The best IMO is sprint at lv 1 and a new better sprint at lv 15. Rocket boots, baby!
-
Its coming in 1.3 they said. So you have a while to go before cross realm is in. I would probably say mid summer for 1.3 to hit.
-
Valor will definitely not be just for prestige. Just look at the champion comms that they put on the PvP vendor. They have a valor requirement to purchase. You need lv 50 valor to get champion.
So after 1.2 hits and there is no more bags, you will need to be Lv50 valor to be champion equipped and Lv60 valor for Battlemaster. So no, Valor is still necessary to gain levels in to get the good gear.

There is no excuse not to have character transfers even at RELEASE! Seriously, this should of been a feature of their infrastructure form day one. Every single mmorpg has had some type of character transfer available whether for free or a paid service. So there is no excuse for a 2012 mmorpg not to ship without this feature right out of the box.
I should be able to have the option to transfer characters day one If Im willing to pay for it.
And also there should be a free transfer service for those servers which have like 100 people on them, and there is plenty of those.

I dont know about this graphics and fps QQ in this game. i understand that every system is different and not all systems will play this game up to snuff, but I usually play this on an old Dell with a Q6600, 4 gigs of DDR2 and a 8800GTS and I have no problems in either PvE or PvP in Illum. I have everything on low, obviously, but this game is more than playable even on a crappy system like mine.
I have another 2500K system with a 5850 and 8 gigs of ram, and on that system I can run everything on high with all the bells and whistles and not a single performance hit in this game.
-
yep.. all the highly positive reviews from former DAOC players has me doubting it as well... o wait now.... wat?
Ilum > WvW?
Sorry but DAOc was a mere blip on the MMO circuit. Basically around 100K at its peak. so opinions from people which hailed a crappy game as good have no merrit imo. I played it and considered it crap. Returned to EQ within a few weeks.
Shadowbane had better PvP than DAOC except it was a crappy buggy engine.

I can only speak for my server which was a standard server since the beginning, Bondar Crystal. And from my experience, the population dropped but only slightly. Just going on fleet populations.
Im sure the Asian launch will add new sales, I mean you are dealing with billions of potential customers. So yeah, I can see this being a hit in Asia, im not sure how popular star wars is there, but im sure Star Wars was a huge phenomenon everywhere in the world.
But im also not naive. Box sales are not keeping up with the attrition rate here in the US. Im sure the US has dropped in subs just not sure how much. Just based on my server I would peg the drop at around 10-20%. But th9ose are all just guesses since no one knows.
-
For the faction thing, they could simply add some meaningful incentives to roll the crappy faction. Of course this would have to be done on a per server basis. Other than this, I cannot see anything they could do other than limiting the amount of people to go to Illum for the stronger faction.
As to patch 1.2? Im sure its a bit over hyped. But Im still enjoying this game immensely. I still want to have classes to PvP with that I do not have yet and see the stories behind them.
Im glad they are adding some crafting stuff to 1.2 this should be cool. Also legacy stuff will be cool. The new war zone will be a welcome addition, same with the PvP gear acquisition changes.
All in all looking forward to it.
also it was pretty much acepted by anyone with any sense of logic that there would be attrition based around the numbers of poeple playing this game. Still, this is not the end of the world. With some character transfers, and merging of servers which needs to happen anyway, like in all mmos, even WoW today, you will see thriving communities of people which stuck around.
-
Are they funny builds now when they are beating the content just fine?
-
It makes the entire game cookie cutter. There will be a "best" spec for every class and you will have to push buttons 1, 4, 1, 1, 5, 7, in that order or you will be a leper. Because you are 6.875% DPS shy and this is just unnaceptible.
-
even though the data itself has many valid proper uses.
Like?
It all comes down to calling people out you deem unworthy in a video game that we play for recreation. There are other ways of finding out if the players are not carrying their weight. One simple one being "What spec are you and what is your DPS rotation"
-
Which is EXACTLY what it is now.
You have no data, so you have to guess... Which is just lame.
This is why its considered a GAME. And you can say that guessing is a feature of it which makes things more difficult, which you guys want anyway.
-
Agreed. Those are usually people that got their feelings hurt because they got called on their poor play, or removed from a group because of it.
They don't want parsing now because they might not get carried anymore.
And there is the real reson you guys want a combat log, not to improve yourselves, but to kick people you deem unworthy. You said it yourself.
-
So make it really interesting...
A closer analogy would be to have them do the math by hand without knowing half of the numbers involved and having to guess at the solutions.
Thats not math then, its a numbers guessing game.
-
Ban calculators, add more trial and error to math also.
Thats a stupid analogy. for one I dont let my kids use calculators, they need to learn the basics without a calculator. Problem soliving in mathematics is not about calculators, son.
-
All your little analogies dont work here about calculators and pencils and whatever. Because you know what? Its a game.
The point is that these games do not ship with DPS meters. Its a gamer add on to make things easier. It was this way in EQ, it was this way in WoW and its like this now in SWTOR.
-
So wait, on one hand you guys want harder content but you want a dps meter to make it easyer? does this even make sense?
-
Not convinced you actually enjoy playing them, I think you may like watching them.
LOL I dont need to be bleeding edge min maxer to enjoy video games. Im the 95%er and enjoying it. might not be the best but I dont really care either. its all about social stuff with friends, thats all these games are all about, the game is just the filler for that to happen. Same as bowling or playing pool.
-
Why even make 3 difficulty levels then if everyone is basically the same?
Progression. One leading to the next. If its not this way then Bioware needs to fix. For example nightmare dropping same loot as hard. This is obviously wrong and needs to be fixed.
-
Don't pass off your opinion as fact. How miserable is your life? I am so glad I enjoy my "job" as that takes up so much of my time. I would suggest finding a job you enjoy, you seem to despise like a 1/3 of your life.
I enjoy my job as well. But i would rather be home playing video games.
-
Man could think that nightmare modes are extremely hard and downed by 5% of raiders or so. That isnt the case right now.
This game is not for the 5%ers and it never was and it never will be. WoW is not even about this type of gameplay either.
Scared of 1.2, are you?
