  1. Rejoice SWGers, Bioware has announced a feature in 1.2 where you can become the Ship Droid doing all the things you loved to do back in SWG:

    • Meal preparation
    • Window cleaning
    • Wall repainting
    • Seat recushioning
    • Toilet cleaning

Because that's the kind of stuff people liked pay monthly for in SWG so rejoice until you realize what day it is today.

hey im just wondering - ive read some of your posts in this thread - by some i mean 3 - this one and the ones just before and after(i assume i need not read back any further than that as your older posts are are just more biting sarcasm and in-your-face cynicism correct me if im wrong)

while i did take your advice from the last post by utilizing said door - i just happened to peek in on this post again as it interests me, and by the looks of it either interests you, or delights you, or both?

anyway back to me wondering - what exactly is your angle? - ive always argued with ppl like you regarding swg type topics and i thought maybe if i was polite enough you might tell me why you take this stance against ppl who obviously like swg and are just here to voice that?

im not going to go into why i like swg, or preach its supposed awesomeness as i realize the game is over, and like it or not its bound to stay that way until the next extinction level event - but rather i would just like to know what makes you anti swg anti anyone talking about swg types tick?

you know the game is dead - all the ppl who post in theses topics know its dead - they are just reminiscing about what it would be like if say like say perhaps for one second that maybe it wasnt

why does it bother you so much that you feel the need to police these topics with your ever friendly 'use the door' advice - or your riveting but always helpful reminders of what it was like to play the game that made certain ppl enjoy it so much - or when that fails your clever need to point out the painfully obvious fact that you were being sarcastic?

ppl who played swg play this game - most play as sadly its the only real sw license left after swg - some of them like it and think it is superior to swtor - most know that that is simply ridiculous - either way they cannot affect your gameplay by voicing the obvious fact that swtor pales in comparison to swg - you can disagree of course and all the power to you in doing so - but why the need to take on this superior condescending tone of key and tell ppl to leave or to ridicule the old game that they liked to play just as you seem to like to play swtor?

regardless of how far ahead swtor is in technology it will never come close to two aspects of swg - crafting and community - crafting, the type that grownups can do, is obviously not the type that swtor provides - and community, well ill let you answer for swtor on that one k ;)

  2. I'm pretty content at moment, and dont miss swg what so ever. I always felt the game was average and one reason I continue to play it was due to the sw license. It still amazes me though that people still obsess over it and still think about it on a regular basis. I can only imagine what it would be like if some of these people will do in a break up or something of that nature.

Perhaps the reason a lot of people still obsess over it on a regular basis is because of the simple fact that even though it had numerous problems it was still the most innovative and immersive Starwars themed MMO ever created? WOW is the greatest commercial MMO launch to date, but don't you think it's kind of funny how there aren't thousands of people singing it's praises or dying to go back to it once they've quit?

  3. Currently I'm really enjoying SWTOR due to its story and VA but once I'm done with all the quests. I'm not sure what would entice me to continue playing.

Because when I look at the end-Game right now and all I could see is PVP Grinding or Raiding which was what I was doing for the past 4 - 5 years in WoW.

So what does this game offer that I have not yet experienced in WoW? Sure the universe is different, gfx are different, combat mechanics are slightly different but the overall structure of the game feels the same.

And since I'm not a hardcore Star Wars fan all these feels just like the same car engine with a slightly different chassis and paint job.

OTOH.. Star Wars despite all its bugs and how complex I found the system to be. Was one of the best MMOs I ever played along with DAoC & UO.

It gave players a vast world to explore and interact with. It accomodated various alternative playstyles and rewarded players for putting in the effort. If you didn't want to PvE/PvP, you didn't have to. You could be a crafter or a service provider and become famous for it.

Not only that, players could also have houses. You could put vendors in your house, set access rights to your house and decorate it as you see fit also. Later in the game players could create their own towns. Elected mayors can also select the type of amentities they want in their town, which can provide certain benefits to the residents or visitors passing by.

The amount of customizations, ability to personalize your character and their living space as well as the ability for players to influence the world - had a profound effect on those that players. It made us feel more involved with the community and world as well as delivering a rather personal gaming experience.

Compared to most MMOs nowadays. You do things in a linear fashion from point A to B. Raid ABC dungeon for Tier 1, then Raid DEF dungeon for Tier 2. Look awesome for maybe 2 - 3 months ,then ditch that gear for something better stat wise.

You can't shape/change the game world, everything resets to the way it was before. Interaction is also limited due to instancing. You certainly can't leave your mark upon the world either.

Although WoW was a huge commerical success... some of my fondest memories are still from SWG. Of WoW, I remember nothing but the grind & guild drama over raid loot.

This is where SWTOR is headed

While I hope SWTOR would break the mould by becoming a really innovative MMO... I'm not so sure if it will succeed. Seeing as most games nowadays are aiming for a more simplified and streamlined approach to appeal to wider audiences. And these people that are being targeted might not be able to appreciate the complexities & gameplay depth that older sandbox MMOs offered.

If these players were given a game with the complexities & gameplay of SWG mixed with the solid launch ideas and implementation of SWTOR BW would have the greatest commercial success ever

    great post btw

  4. I really miss SWG Crafting. (Pre-nerf) You had to invest time and energy to get good at it. IMHO it was the most complex and rewarding crafting system in a MMO so far.

I just wanted to agree with you - this game would have done itself a favour by copying the crafting from SWG

  5. Crafting is useful up to lvl 50. Then it becomes pointless.

You can self mid - high lvl items for a good money, you can dress your companions but as soon as cap is reached - yep better gear is available quite easily. As for commendation while mods and enhancements are easy to get armoring and barrels/hilts are quite costly.

(I got artifice to 400 and cybertech to 400)

if they wanted to could they make sweeping changes to crafting or anything else for that matter (space for 1) - if enuf ppl agree to something can they change it relatively easily or are we stuck with as designed for the most part?

  6. Never played rift; however, almost anything would be better than what have here. As long as it required time to get, it would be helpful. Everything now is instant gratification, which is the main problem with crafting now, any craft can be leveled to cap in a couple of days with little to no effort.

in a nutshell bud you nailed it - stuck with the '97+ crowd of me me me/timeout kids

ild say 20% just young kids who love lightsabers

20% now now now wow kids

    30% mature wow ppl

    25% mature swg ppl

    5% complete ******s

  7. Crafting is pointless period - yes it is fun or can be at times, the crew skills idea was a good one but not what all crafters want. SWG (qq-shut up-this isn't swg/rant shield on) was the best system period. It was made for crafters and it was genius.

That being said I keep listening to this argument about crafters not being needed or wanted for that matter, and I couldn't disagree more. The whole slicing overpower was by design, item decay, reusable consumables were also by design.

This MMO is great in certain aspects but crafting was never a priority for them and there is a hateon for crafters that will keep things as designed because the cookie cutter format caters to the hardcore raiders/pvp'ers out there who have the hateon.

What pisses me off is that crafters don't want to run the game they just want to craft the best gear possible and hopefully get rich doing it - but the reason they craft is to see the crazy hardcore players who scream that they don't need crafers outfitted in their gear???

This ******** balance excuse between casuals and other nonsense is just that nonsense.

The raiders/hardcores make tonnes of cash so what friggin difference is it to them if we craft their gear? Thats the game you like to play why cant you understand crafters like to craft??

It is more than easy to design and implement a codependent system where crafters make the best items and we pay combat types for their time for certain mats and or looted schems, hell how bout if we could RE UBER RARE LOOT DROPS for you into something epic thats the only one around and its yours?? Or smugglers slicing weapons or armour for increased stats like in SWG?

Man we all play the same game just differently - why cant the haters realize that if we both got what we wanted it would only bring the playerbase together to make it stronger and help to grow it?

The level design is epic(not all) the voice over is supreme(.) youre telling me they cant design a more intelligent crafting system? We are talking about colours and small numbers to describe the current crafting system, its like made for bored monkeys.

I never played WoW but it seems to me that a lot of game mechanics were lifted from it for this game - it couldnt have hurt to pull the best parts of the SWG crafting system and integrate them and design them further? The only reason they didn't is because they can use the excuse that its too complicated becasue they know that by catering to the hardcores/pvpers will get them short term subsciptions and that is the cookie cutter financial model they want.

Dont ever dare to do something innovative to try and create an integrated MMO where interdependence is key and it might help make things great.

Everyone ***** on SWG crafting system and that this isn't SWG - well its not WoW either but things from wow made this game better - ppl who aren't familiar with swg crafting should look into it - it helped create one of the best MMO communities ever?

  9. ok so im on dromond kaas and im just wondering what content is supposed to be soloable? im a bh with little ole mako as my companion and DK is a tab crazy what with the level 14+ acolytes with shiny red lightsabers

    any advice"?

  10. k wait i just checked something i didnt realize that you could take items off the character sheet and drag them back to the inventory - so if it is not being used on the character sheet i can sell whatevers left in the inventory? is this right?
  11. can someone explain the armour to me or point me to a guide - i assume you just pick the highest stat piece to wear but is seems like some items modify existing ones automatically? i have to chest pieces but there seems to be a third under one of them so i dont know if i can sell one - same with my blaster - i right click the one blaster icon to switch between two pistols??? is this as intended or a bug?
  12. sorry should have said more - i started as BH and am around level 3 or 4 and just got another pistol sorry cant remember the name of either just lost connection - i cant sell the started one as it occupies the same slot as the new one - to switch em i hover over the one slot and it tells me on one side which one is equipped and on the other side the one i can switch it to? jsut wanna make some extra credits by selling the one i dont need
  13. so the cursor does not come into play in combat then? you just target with tab and it stays locked? i think im getting confused as i think i have to constantly adjust my camera orientation toward the enemy then let go of right mouse to bring the cursor back into view so i can centre it on him to fire at him - then if he moves i scramble to hold the right mosue button down again to do it again

is there a way to lock the camera angle to help me out a bit?

    thanks for your help

  14. Can someone help me please?

I played swg now this - swg was the only mmo i ever played and this game is like apples and chocolate covered ants when it comes to moving your character around

how the hell do you stay centered in combat? ppl keep saying the movement controls in this game are standard for an mmo but i beg to differ(as much as i can seeing as i only ever played one other mmo)

left mouse is for looking around i guess and right mouse is for precise movement and targeting i suppose but i dont understand why you must constantly hold it down??? why the hell can you not toggle between mouselook and movement?

in combat it become extremely frustrating to have to hold the right mosue button down to adjust my perspective and orientation so i must be doing something wrong

how do i enter a fight with 2 or more enemies and keep the orientation fixed toward them

it seems that some hits cause the camera perspective to be bumped like you got shoved or maybe this is just me straight up button mashing in panic - please advise

is there an option to keep the camera pointed toward the confrontation? i rebound the a and d keys to strafe as that is the way i played swg - is this whats screwing me up? do you guys (those familiar with this [standard] control scheme) leave the keymap for movement at default config? in combat i am trying to engage 3 enemies at the same time but end up retreating constantly as i cannot for the life of me get the hang of it

you use tab to switch targets and then what, just use the movement keys to move around as you fight them? tryign to use cover doesnt work for me(maybe u have to learn it first?)

anyway there is my question in essay length someone please take pity on me and train me to be more proficient please

ps are there any SWG players reading this who are finding this as hard as i am

  15. I right click and hold it down to move the camera. It's that simple. Just moving the camera while holding down the right mouse button is near impossible to control without using super-minute movements.

Just watch the videos in the first post. :p

ya i see what you mean mines bad at anything over 6% - i cant get over the fact that this is how you are to move around period - this is ridiculous, i dont wanna start any swg vs tor 'this isnt swg qq' but swg is the only mmo i ever played and now im stuck with this?

can they patch something as integral as movement? could they change it easily or is this it?

i wanted to try pvp server for the first time but i cant even imagine the frustration of trying to get past gankers with this setup

  16. not trying to jack your thread but i have the same issue i think - i use the naga mmo mouse with the 12 buttons on the side saem mouse? anyway i have mine set at 500 dpi and the camera is nutz - i came from galaxies where u could toggle the mouse mode - is that not possible in this game? how the hell are you supposed to move around with any accuracy?
