  1. ...I need help deciding on Merc or PT for Bounty Hunter and Commando or VG for Trooper.

Hey all, I've gotten back into playing SWTOR recently (even more so since The Force Awakens released). Because I have altitis and play mutliple characters, I often switch back and forth among them.

Anyhoot, I need help deciding which Advanced Class to play for both BH and Trooper. I'd prefer to play a different style AC for each, rather than playing the mirror for both. Strictly speaking, if I play a PT, then I'd play a Trooper; if I go Merc, then I'd go VG.

So, any advice in regards to which pair would be better, either PT/Commando or Merc/VG? Any info is appreciated including skill comparisons, the look of gear, animation differences, etc.

    Thanks in advance!

  3. I'm going to have to abandon a few 20 somethings because of this as well, I'm definitely less than thrilled about it.

How some of these morons on the forums don't get how people can be pissed that their time was wasted based on a pretty basic oversight is astounding.

    QFT!!!

You can't expect everyone to be smart. Remember, it takes all kinds to make up the world ;)

The game gives you 8 advanced classes per side. I realize that several are mirror images of others, however some of us are on RP servers because of roleplay purposes (imagine that). So, when BioWare gives us 8 slots per server initially and tells, 'have at it', I did. How was I to know that this game would tank so bad that I would have to transfer all my characters from the only two servers I have characters on, to the very same server.

I guess I'm just stupid for thinking that it wasn't the fault of the players that were still sticking around and not BioWare. Why should BioWare have to make any more of a sacrifice. Truly I, the customer should be the one that has to sacrifice by deleting 4 or so characters that I've already invested time on. What was I thinking?!

  4. Thanks for all the comments, guys.

Some of you are missing the point somewhat. BioWare put out a server transfer list and only one of my origin servers was on that list. So, I transferred all 8 characters from that origin server not realizing and perhaps assuming that the origin server my republic characters were on wouldn't need to be transferred or perhaps not to the same server.

So, BioWare's failure to list all servers at once is the other issue here. If I would have had all the info from the start, I would have known and thus realized that I would have needed to sacrifice some characters from the beginning. Therefore, I could have chosen the eight I wanted to merge from both servers, selecting the 8 I play the most. However, unfortunately I had already transferred all 8 Sith Empire characters before finding out about the server my Republic characters are on and now will have to delete possibly 4 to make room for 4 Republic characters, rather than just leaving those 4 Empire characters on the old server til a later date.

So, if nothing changes, I will be pretty much forced to delete characters that I wouldn't have had to if BioWare would have been smart and announced all server transfers at once. Wait, did I just say if BioWare would have been smart? Lol, that's funny!

But, I'm sure BioWare was more concerned with the impact on their servers and things going smoothly in that regard and perhaps that is why they implemented things in increments.

  5. thats kinda funny because I was hoping this would happen to me, rolled republic on a diffrent server, now with current changes in the game with the legacy system and hk 51 I really wanted to bring my republic and imperial characters to the same server.

I only have 4 of each so I wouldn't run into the same problem as you though I do agree with holding the information is hurting the players. almost all the problems I have with bioware and this game right now involve them withholding information. but people dont agree that information will put out some of these forum fires and doom predictions

Yeah, I suppose I could sacrifice some of my characters, but I'd really rather not as I've grown attached to just about every one of them.

I need to say that I don't know what it is with BioWare and its decision-making. I think they need to hire me for the Common-Sense Department that they're in dire need of! :p

  6. There is no way to know where people have toons.. How would they know you have Empire on one server and Republic on others?

I think you just disproved your own point. They couldn't know. They should have assumed most players would have characters of each faction. Which, is why they should allow players the option for one of two destination servers. In case they ran into something like this! Hmmm?

  7. Now what do I do?

Unfortunately, BioWare in all its wisdom thought it best to only give a partial listing of Origin/Destination Servers initially. So, after receiving the instructions to merge from the server that all of my Empire chars were on, like a good little soldier, I transferred all of those Empire chars (8) to the destination server.

Then of course, later on, I'm now seeing that the server all of my Republic characters are on is now being sent to the same server I just transferred all of my Empire chars to.

So, what the heck do I do now?! I looked in the FAQ and didn't see anything listed in regards to this problem.

Me doth think this not well thought out, BioWare.:mad:

Can we get some sort of direction from a Dev/Mod etc. on what players in this situation are supposed to do? Thanks.

  8. I realize this is the underlying reason for BioWare doing such, but what really irks me about this 30-days of game time is that my cousin who canceled his sub (with 1 level 50) over a week ago, just received his e-mail this morning for his 30-free days.

I asked him if he plans on using the game time and he said no, he's already uninstalled SWTOR and moved on.

So I ask you BioWare, are those the "valued and loyal customers" you were referring to?

Glad to see it's paying off!

I'll take my 6-month recurring sub elsewhere where it is valued.

    /sub canceled as of 04/13/2012

  9. I think all you guys saying that there was enough time to hit level 50 are missing a valuable point. There was no warning about this, there was no competition to get to level 50 and earn a reward. I made a choice of playstyle just as simply as you made a choice about your chars race. I didnt ever think I would receive less as a result of my choice. If I were told 30 days ago that I would get 30 days of free game time if I hit 50 today, then it would have been my choice not to earn it. Thats not what happened. What happened was I was selected as a less valuable customer due to my playstyle, not the amount of money I invested in the company or because of a choice I made with clear consequences.

It is the exact same thing as Bioware giving everyone who played a chiss a free 30 days or everyone who played on one specific server a free 30 days. It simply is not fair.

And a further point to it all would be the fact that a lot of us that took our time enjoying the story or better yet enjoying multiple storylines were likely listening to BioWare the whole time they were building up SWTOR by saying "it's story that matters"...

    ...*cough*and getting to 50*cough*

  10. You know... Sometimes when I read all of the hate towards Bioware I find myself thinking about all the staff that might not have anything at all to do with decisions like these.

All the programmers, coders - all of them.

If they got to choose I think they would have given a free month to us all, or maybe just skip it altogether.

But the hate is directed towards Bioware as a company, which I would assume holds many people that wouldn't agree with this decision. And I'm sure many of them feel terrible for knowing how the community responds to their work...

Which is all the more reason BioWare/EA needs to hire someone competent in place of the putz(s) that green-light a decision like this.

Just imagine all the people who have probably rage-quite from this already and perhaps the jobs that a blunder like this could cost BioWare.

The irony of this all is that in the end good people at BioWare will lose their jobs while the moron at BioWare or EA that thought this a good idea will most likely end up keeping his.

Corporate business at its best! Makes you wonder how some of these people get hired to begin with. I sure would love to know as like another poster said, the guy flipping burgers down the street could have told them this was a B-A-D idea.

  11. So maybe Apple should tell only those who purchased the new iPad that they are valued/loyal. Oh yeah, that's right that would be suicide.

Seriously BioWare, who makes these sort of decisions? Clearly I should apply for that job, cause it's quite apparent improvement is needed.

p.s. Who likes my new sig?

  12. So your one 50 was more work than my 47, 40, 38, 36, 29, two 17s 11 and whatever I left on my dead server? Whos self entitlement is showing now? Lol honestly I think it should be for length of sub not who rushed to 50. Its not hard to max out in a month with enough free time and smashing that space bar to hell. It would be much much more common sense to give back to the people who have paid $60 in sub fees and $60+ in retail price for the game than just those who hit 50. That is my opinion lol

I agree with what you are saying and like you I have a bunch of alts, but try $150 for a collector's edition and $80 for a 6-month sub. Also, I've been playing the game since beta in December of 2010.

However, apparently that's not the kind of "loyal player" BioWare is looking for!

  13. You can appreciate that they tried to do something nice for people without spending a **** ton of time figuring out who, out of 1.7 million subscribers or so, was "deserving".

That's not at all what I'm saying or suggesting. What I'm saying is that you cannot possibly please everyone all of the time. That it's an extremely time consuming process to determine who's "worthy" in this particular case. And that something for a large section of the population is better then nothing for everyone.

Yes, cause it would have taken a **** ton of time to figure out that "loyal" should mean those that have had active subs since launch or within that first month like um, every other MMO does!

Based on your logic maybe you should work for BioWare. Sounds like you'd fit right in!

Scratch that, maybe I should work for BioWare. Perhaps things would go a lot smoother!

  14. Way to go Bioware! Thanks for ignoring 6-month subscribers that enjoy playing a variety of classes and/or those of us that are dedicated paying subscribers that have paid 6 MONTHS IN ADVANCE, yet maybe haven't had the time to get to level 50 yet, because we have a life outside of SWTOR.

I guess due to the above reasons my money isn't as good as someone with a current level 50!

Oh, but those friends of mine that have 50s but have already canceled their memberships deserve a free month! Ridiculous!

Looks like I'll be taking my 6-month recurring membership elsewhere!

Who is the genius that thought up that idea?!

  15. Yeah, it is so wrong, yet hilarious at the same time. The song made it even more entertaining. :D

Yeah, right?! I think I'll go watch the Karate Kid...the original one.

    "Danielson! Show me...paint the fence!"

  16. I'm the "other" Pyro... a Merc. I haven't seen complaints about us being overpowered, yet these changes will reduce our damage output as well since they are in the shared tree. I'll be curious to see if the 1.2 changes hurt the spec.

Based on the numbers posted by the OP, it looks like we'll be negatively affected by the changes while still lacking some abilities (interrupt for example) that make the PT such a good spec. I have the feeling that LoS will become more of a part of my rotation than it is currently.

Sadly, my alt is an... Operative. :D

I feel your pain. I'm in the same boat...rowing beside you.

  17. If you dont think Pyrotech's needed to be toned down then you failed to maximize your dmg...Guildy Vanguard does 600-900k every voidstar and like 500k-600k alderrans..balanced i know especially when he can pop a shield that absorbs a truckload of dmg. And you show math all non crits to make it look like you dont dish out the mass dmg

Not sure what server you're playing on (or what game you're playing for that matter), but I've never seen dmg numbers even close to that high.

Sorry, but I call BS also.

  18. Why would I make something up? I am a rank 81 PvPer on my server...I have probably played more Warzones than you.

"HE DOESNT AGREE WITH ME! HE MUST BE LYING."

    sounds curiously like

"HE KILLED ME! HE MUST BE HACKING."

It's not that you don't agree with me, I just think it a bit ironic that you happen to have specific events, exactly mirroring mine that help to defend your point. Coincidence, I think not!

Btw, as for your last comment, I'd be happy to post links to screenshots of my PvP matches if you will!

Just because someone is complaining about some of the cheating going on, doesn't mean that person isn't good when it comes to PvP.

I know I'm good at PvP and have the screeshots to prove it! How about you?

  19. No, I took an example from my experience that mirrored yours. In yours, you assume that the person was hacking. In mine, I explained to you that it is possible that they are NOT. Whether you want to believe it, thats up to you.

The point remains, most of what most players classify as "hack" is not a cheat/exploit/hack in any way. Just the game's engine.

Yes, but the difference is that my experience is real and you clearly made up your experience to be a complete opposite of mine to try a prove your point so don't give me this "experience that mirrored yours" nonsense.

I may have been born at night, but I wasn't born "last night".

I've said it before and I'll say it again, not everyone is hacking but there is quite a bit of it going on atm. Whether you want to believe it, that's up to you. :)
