  1. You'd be surprised at how much money really is a factor. It might not be for you, but it is for many. Someone would say that and then everyone is all like "lol $15 a month?" as if it's nothing. As I told someone before in this thread, you're giving humanity way too much credit lol. I have more friends that're willing to play GW2 over SWTOR simply because they don't have to pay money to play it. A lot of these friends already play the f2p League of Legends considering it is both a great game and is absolutely free. Personally I don't mind $15 a month. If a game doesn't satisfy me or if I figure I'm not playing often enough in the month, I'll just cancel the subscription. But everyone has their own situations with money so that's why I brought it up. ;( As for Star Wars and attention, I feel ya. But I'm actually impressed that BW is addressing things that need to be fixed in the game. They're even doing it in a timely manner. Almost... too timely.
  2. At least you're one of the people that're making sense around here. That's literally most of what this genre is and why people do and say the things they say. Think about it. You were younger when you started this genre. Maybe you were in high school or maybe you'd just gotten out of college; your job at the time wasn't as restrictive perhaps. You didn't have a wife/husband and children. The popularity in the genre hit and more and more people started to play MMOs. The thing people are subconsciously looking for is that "wonder" from when they first started playing. They want something brand new and fresh; now rephrased as "innovative" because there isn't really one word to describe what they're looking for, among them denying that very thing. I've come to terms with the fact that the certain feeling that can barely be described is not coming back. Other people might have as well. So now you have people that have no idea what they want. They're older now so they don't want an overly time restrictive game. Many don't want the "WoW" feel despite it being very good in terms of gameplay; it goes far enough for people to think the next MMO they look forward to isn't doing that when it clearly is. They want "something new in place of the old stuff" even though they have been given that many times and the said times people didn't like (or the game). There's nothing wrong with what is desired. But some people just have to think hard about what it is they truly want. Do you want something familiar, yet slightly different? Or do you want something completely new which will end up being part of what makes or breaks the game? Keep in mind, taking a risk isn't always bad. It used to be The American Way. I don't think Bioware was going for something "OMG SO NEW!" You played this game and if you couldn't tell by now, then what've you really been doing? You liking it is just YOU liking whatever about it. There are going to be plenty of people that want to play it just because it's free and they don't need to spend money. I'm one of those people. My friends that know about the game are like 6 or 7 others. There's going to be more. I didn't say you can't like the game for what it's worth, but when it comes to putting your time into a video game, money is ALWAYS a factor.
  3. No, they're doing exactly what SWTOR did, but renaming it and making maybe one thing different. To put it in a nicer way, GW2 is still doing a Milk Chocolate vs Dark Chocolate type of thing. You're eating the same thing, but it's slightly different to the point where it turns some people off and attracts others. And the only real reason it even attracts people that don't like it is because it's free. Like an assortment of chocolate given to someone and they will gladly eat it, but they'll try to eat around the pieces they dislike.

  5. I thought about rolling Trooper, so I guess I'll for sure roll a Mercenary when I have spare time. That was the class I had my eyes on initially, but I wanted to make it a female; the thing was that I wanted my first character when the game set sail to be male, so I picked another class which I can't complain about. I'm positive Merc/Troop is tons more fun currently though.
  6. Did they? I heard it was a performance issue of the engine they use for this game. You can call it a bug, but it's still a problem for how the game itself performs and honestly it should've been their top priority as I said. Nothing is worse than a game that doesn't play very smooth.
  7. You may be confusing bugs with performance. They may or may not be referring to "how the game runs" but "how the game literally plays". By this I mean, things like ability delay, which really is a common problem. It FEELS like lag, but it isn't. That sort of thing isn't a bug, but a performance issue. You activate an ability only for it to stop part way and do nothing. That thing that you might've seen by now but just shrug off. Until you're pressing the ability 4 or 5 times and then it finally activates on the 6th. Everything else like FPS worth of performance issues is something else, but I just wanted to point out that some people may not be understanding what may be being spoken of as an example. Unless Bioware shows up and claims it's a bug; then it's one hell of a bug Bioware. One of the things that really does make or break enjoying the combat in this game...
  8. Force users have a problem with using abilities and having them either delay or not finish, causing nothing to happen. Stop crying about the class you play. I don't agree with the SI buff, but the problem you're speaking of is something that has a similar problem among all classes.
  9. I feel we need server forums too, but the fact of the matter is, they're not really a priority in the attempt of making a community. Remember, there are more people that don't look at the forums than people that do. Community building is encouraged by constant in-game interaction on a server; nothing more nothing less. The discouragement in that realm is that there are phases everywhere, so you don't see people as often as you should be. Chat bubbles are a personal matter, not a community one.
  10. People are wrong about the "Nobody talks to each other; even in chat" thing. That has to be something going on in your server and even then I think you're likely exaggerating. People will speak to each other in General very often on my server for example. There are plenty of moments when its dead, though occasionally it just depends on where most people are at the moment. All the higher/max level people are usually at the Imperial Fleet. But that said, the majority of players are still around on two of three planets on the server, just separated due to trying to enjoy the game. On the note of enjoying the game, I'll address OP. If you ask me, a guy who has only grouped just to finish a quest or four before I left a planet (you know, those really annoying Heroics), the game feels single player simply because the main story itself can be done alone. That's the only reason you even need. Take another example from me; you have these Social Points in the game which basically require you to group with people in initiate/finish quests in order to obtain them. The problem I found here was the system of there being a roll to determine who speaks. Not just that, but due to me being in a group, I'm forced to think much harder about decisions-- I can't simply view them on my own time because I wanted to see what the outcome was in the end; and that's assuming I even win the damn roll. This also ruins getting affection for characters because from how I've seen it; if you lose, there's nothing no matter what option you picked. You only gain or lose whenever you win a roll, and THAT'S assuming your damn companion cares at the time. The Social Points and Social System is great and all, but didn't you ever ask yourself why it's there? Because it's the true incentive to grouping in this game; aka they're rewarding players that play with each other because they literally don't have to for 80% of this game. The main quest can be done alone, and to enjoy most quests, regardless of if they're side or main, you might want to be alone so that you can discover all of the options. This gives it a single player feel. The fact that you can just play alone. Even if there's a teeny tiny bit of grind (which I haven't encountered anyway), it still feels single player. Expand your horizons with RPGs in general; I guess I'll leave it at that.
  11. Exactly. Although, I think we should take his opinion with a grain of salt; no disrespect to him of course, but he's for both a dungeon tool and cross server. It's not exactly a wonder why he believes it's a standard. A same server finder would be fine and even that isn't necessary at the moment. Just a channel for LFG that is only accessed when you set yourself as LFG.
  12. I guess it's more of a thing for going back and doing it for the sake of doing it I guess. Helping OTHERS who were in your situation maybe. As for the 4 or 5 level gap, I don't understand it too much either. They can stand to make the whole "lol no exp" thing for when you're 10 levels above. That would definitely be enough unless for whatever reason there are several flashpoints between 45 and 50; in which case I'd understand due to being able to grind the lower level one easier if you were say, 48 or 49 at the time. I'd actually like to see if Bioware has/will address that particular thought.
  13. To do the flashpoint and see what it's like. That's the only reason. Of course you're going to get extremely low exp because you don't need to do the flashpoint for any other reason. There are still dailies around your level anyway. Why even bother waiting around and NOT leveling if that's your main concern? Just ask yourself that since you brought it up. I gave you a perfectly good solution just for that reason. My point is that if you can get a group in a short amount of time, more power to you and good luck. If you can't and no one's bothering to do it then why look stupid just asking around for 30 minutes or more on end when you could be enjoying the main aspect of the game?
  14. LFG tab wouldn't be bad. Otherwise just skip the flashpoint and do it at a different time. What's to say that people would even respond to you wanting to do the flashpoint even after an LFG tab is created? It's all based on people and what time they have. I might be looking for a group on my server for just a regular heroic quest at one hour (probably 1pm) and no one even gives a ****. But when I come back like 3 hours later, everyone and their mom wants to do the quest and people begin asking around 10 minute intervals until maybe 2:30am.
  15. And that's part of why it's okay here. It's part of the thread. The thread isn't just about what you believe it is. Yes, it has to do with monopoly and manipulation, and yes it's about you, the consumer having a choice. Do I condone the act of monopolising the market? Yes, simply because of the latter. You can control the market all you want in this game, but that doesn't mean s*** if people wise up and don't buy from you. Do you even understand that this is part of the argument? I already understood like 4 pages ago that some of you people feel as if you can't go somewhere else, but the problem literally is that you can go somewhere else/do it yourself and that you don't have to buy from these people... If you want to say and ask whether or not it's okay, put simply, it just is. I wouldn't be surprised if Bioware did something about it anyway though and made a 3 year long post in a thread about who they've suspended over it.
