  1. I've been playing LOTRO since before launch and still do. Truthfully, that was a much smoother launch and it sure was more geared toward RP than ToR is now. I admit, the devs said they were surprised that people were so adamant about getting theri "fluff." But that's what happens when you have a game that's so heavily based on a beloved and existing story and yes will be limited. That doesn't make it a bad game.. I'm not knocking ToR, I find it a pleasant game and I hope BW continues to add more content, including fluff. And yes, to me story is very important in a game. My first MMO was Asheron's Call, a game that's still creaking along and had a great story line and for years had montly updates to that story. So I guess I carry that nostalgia with me. And I am also a casual player, so that refutes any statement other may say. I can only speak for myself when I say it's important. Nobody else can do more. Everyone wants something different from a game and we're all going to get something different out of it.
  2. C2-N2 doesn't bother me at all. Once you're in the ship, he only says a line or two anyway. Would be nice if he did have more than a the few phrases he does have for variety. I find Kira and Corso to be more annoying since they're with me more.
  3. Nope. It's not a requirement. LOTRO doesn't have them and I've seen some of the best RP I've seen in any game there. I could say: nothing ruins immersion like seeing cartoon chat bubbles above someone's head. I don't understand how you can't find the person you're supposed to be talking to? You know..the person with the name overhead?
  4. I've never, ever played with chat bubbles and have done just fine without them. I often make a separate tab, or turn off all those annoying channels I don't pay attention to and leave only a few things in: emote, say, guild chat, that kind of thing. Personally I think the bubbles clutter up the landscape. However, as I've said before, if you all really insist on them and they can be turned off, I'm for it.
  5. You haven't met my characters then. Nor several others I could name. Personally, I prefer to play my own gender. Doesn't mean I think others who do play opposites are wrong. Nor does it mean I am limited in my scope and capacity to try new things or have some sort of fear of it or inability to relate as others here have stated. It simply means after trying different ways, and I found my preference. I am quite capable of making strong, bad*** female characters without resorting to going overboard and masculinizing them. (I know that's not a word, but it is to me now). They can even sleep around without seeming like they are s****. It means taking a lot of time to create that character and to put a lot of thought into instead of using stereotypes. But that should go for any character of any gender.
  6. Honestly, it's very early to make any accurate preditions, but I don't mind adding my two credits. I think it's a fun game, something different from my usual and preferred fantasy genres. I am a casual player and RPer, so I do find the classes I play to be fun. I don't go into any game wanting to be the first to cap or to have the best and hottest gear, so my view might be quite different than others. I don't mind the voice acting, and quite like it at times, though it does take a lot longer to read. Maybe a compromise is in order. I don't know about game design, but maybe making it possible to either choose text or voice? Most of the time I'd use voice, but sometimes I just am in a bigger hurry. I do think that one of the big parts of the hype pre game was the voice acting of NPCs in an MMO. It's different, but I can't say it's a game maker. As for the future, yes I'd like to see the game succeed. A lot will depend on whether there will be regular updates and expansions to keep the story ongoing and fresh.
  7. Just use a custom emote: /e 's eyes crinkle at the corners as she gives her friend a wide smile. /e smiles ruefully at the bad joke. I don't think Bioware is going to be able to be able to create facial expressions for ever single way you might want to smile or laugh, or frown, etc. I'm a control freak anyway, and want to express my characters my way.
  8. Mine will be Dohrn when I get there. I still use it ICly.
  9. Just to add, I have the same problem. People will send me mails, I try to add them to my friend's list since my mail still doesn't work right, and it says the person doesn't exist. I've even had people I had conversations with and couldn't add them because they didn't exist. This has been going on since the beginning.
  10. That's the Customer Service Forum. Most people post their bugs and problems over there. You'll often find players who have a solution to your problem as well.
  11. I think this whole thing is hilarious. The hardcore gamers as role models for the rest of us...riiiight.
  12. Actually, as an RPer, I can say that they are not really a necessity. I've never used them, have played in multiple games without them just fine. However, as long as they are optional, I fully support you getting your chat bubbles.
  13. Thank you. I'll keep that in mind next time I'm inspired to create a post. I didn't have this before prelaunch. I thought there was something with me.
  14. Normally I'm really patient about these things. I've been here since early prelaunch and had no problems. Even the last couple of days since open launch, I didn't have many problems. Some log-queues, but that didn't bother me. Now I'm being booted from the game in the middle of trying to help friends quest and have a 15-20 minute wait to get back in. I've never played WoW, so I can't compare the launch experience there. , but I have been in launches of other games and never had problems like this. I know it's a high population here. I'm not rerolling on another server since like I said my friends and I have been here early on. But honestly, I'd hoped by now this issues would have been fixed by now. And I sure hope it gets fixed before it's time for me to start paying the sub.
  15. I have similar problems. I can't start a thread because the title box won't let me type in it and it seems to randomly log me out even when I ask it to save.
