  1. So many awsome stories of folks enjoying this new RNG paradise

    KEEP IT UP BRAVE GRINDERS!!!!

MORE 250k NEW SUBS ARE COMING SOON FOR 5.2

PPL CAN'T WAIT TO BUY THIS GAME, SITE IS COLLAPSING

THEY ARE RE-OPENING the 150 servers closed in the original grind Fiasco!!!!!

    I LOVE GC!!!!!

It was 180 servers, if memory doesn't play me false.

    #Zakegg_Beast_LestWeForget

  2. Nah - I'm a mismatched mess and hanging below the accuracy cap, but I'm not worried about at the moment - I haven't been actively raiding in over a month. With my current play style (I bounce between things I like doing so that I don't get burned out) and had this been the old system, I'd currently be pumping my Data Crystals into things like top tier Companion Gifts - the ones that are now 250,000 a pop.

Only real solution to that is make use of all the crafting professions and spend several millions on the GTN...That's what I did to get my almost all 230s set --3 of my set armourings are still last tier's at GC level 86, almost into the next frigging current tier! With the last 45-odd levels being crate.

    After crate.

    After crate.

    After crate.

    After crate...of worthless garbage.

All I want is an optimised "starter-plus" end-game set; Like I implied above, that's more than enough for many of the things I typically do in-game, and it was always quite straightforward to get pre-5.XX.

Hell, if I were a more frequent/enthusiastic PuG-raider, then it'd probably have almost been too freaking easy, before.

This isn't gearing-up, this is reaching into a grab bag full of **** and hoping that you'll eventually --maybe-- find a few peanuts amidst all the handfuls of warm, fresh excre-- errrm, pardon: Excitement.

It's absolutely insulting and utterly insufferable, as are the supporters of same.

  3. You have alternatives, which "Master" gave you, yet you choose to keep complaining about a system you no longer have to use. [/Quote]

What alternatives are those? The absolutely absurd PvP grind? Been there/done it before, didn't much like it then, I imagine I'd like it even less with this added all-but-explicit "raid or die" meta that's been added.

Sounds like a you problem i.e. you're choosing to take someone else's good luck as a personal attack.

When the someone in question passive-aggressively rubs it in my face, then yes, you bloody well better believe it --because that's exactly what it is.

Ah, here we have the root of the problem. It's not the RNG aspect of GC that you object to, it's the fact that everyone has the opportunity to get good gear, not just those who raid. You believe that grinding Heroics or Starfighter or Flashpoints qualifies less than grinding Operations. Your elitism is showing

Wrong: I'm a semi-casual generalist, so if any play style "has options," then it's mine...In fact, grinding [HEROIC]s and [DAILY]/[WEEKLY] (lots of creds to round out my set!) is my "default" along with Flashpoints, solo'ing Tac-modes, and solo'ing the "first five," as the initial Uprisings are called. I can only tolerate so much of that, though, so I jump into PuG raids on occasion too....All this together (less Uprisings, of course) along with some PvP, pre-5.0, gave me a nice, set, not-unreasonable path to get geared to do the things I normally do without having to rely on anything beyond my own time and commitment.

Now, It's nothing but grind, grind, grind, and pray (and/or spend millions on the GTN).

Just as an aside: Another irony that seems lost on the "CASUAL RIGHTS!!111oneone" banner-wavers is that this system is about as casual-unfriendly as it's ever gotten in this game, especially for casual/semi-casual PvPers. But we don't want to admit that, now do we.

Again, interpreting someone else's good luck is not a personal attack, even if you choose to interpret it that way.

"I got mine --the rest of you should just shut up and stop being poor!" Yes, that is exactly what it looks like, and I',m not the only one feel that way, I'm sure.

Wrong. I'm not going after them because they did nothing to offend me. Fight your own battles.

    Well...Good for you, I guess?

Done and done, found no hypocrisy in anything I've said. Moving on....

    Of course you didn't...Christ, /facepalm.

The OP, and the person who's under your skin, are in fact demonstrating positivity. Isn't that what you find so offensive, the fact that others have succeeded where you've failed?

No, they're bragging, and demonstrating a peculiarly modern (2000s - present) type of intellectual cowardice by casting anyone who calls them on it as "negative."

And no-one's "succeeded" in any objective sense. They got lucky. Fullstop/end-of.

Actually, the OP was asking people to share tales of silly mistakes made while opening packs. I'm not certain anyone in this thread actually read past the title. Regardless, you could always just not post if you don't have anything constructive to add. Lord knows there are enough anti-GC threads already where you can vent and bash and curse the devs. But you saw someone actually enjoying something and you just HAD to come and stomp on it, because thats "simply the way it works".

Just because one has the right to be a jerk doesn't always mean one has to be.

Humblebrag is still a brag. And yes, I will tear you down harshly for it. I come from a world/time where that's simply seen as being a douche, and where being a douche is not welcome.

It's a very simple matter of showing a little good taste.

  4. What hypocrisy? Those that didn't leave already have lived the nightmare. Those with direct experience with the RNG are frustrated or know too many others that are frustrated to the point of leaving just like those who left on the prediction this system would be a disaster. This system is directly responsible for chasing people away. Network effects will cause others to leave.

Are you one of those pining for a private server? Well it looks like you're well on the way to having that wish granted. Even a skeleton crew ain't cheap. When Ben & Co. come to collect their salaries how do you plan to finance that?

Somehow, I just can't see anyone ever caring enough to try with a private server for this game the way they do with, say, early WoW, early EverQuest (<---there's even a semi-officially official one, if I'm understanding what P1999 is correctly) or SW: G, or probably will with Asheron's Call in due course.

    I just can't.

    For some reason.

  5. Wow if someone gets crates they earned what ever is in those crates and that's a fact I have done my fair share of earning stuff in this game and this time around trying the crates thing it's fun in a way but harping on about this and that you don't know half of the people who post in this thread or what they have done in this game some might seem like White Knights as you call them but that is very far from the truth.

Maybe some of us are sick of the toxic side of the community that is doing more damage to the game than command crates that I enjoy farming and having a good laugh at what's in them.

    Punctuation: Use it.

    2/10.

    Next!

    E:

    Ben? Is that you?

  6. The only "solution" here is full reversion, fullstop/end-of.

Anything else is just polishing a turd, so that a certain incompetent in Austin can look good enough to his bosses to keep his job a few months longer.

Why continue to enable such arrogantly complacent incompetence and the resulting mediocrity that we get to pay for?

A polished turd smells just as bad as an un-polished one.

  7. Cool story bro. You have your gear, so obviously the system is perfect and no one else can possibly be having terrible luck, right? Everyone else's results MUST be just like yours despite the RANDOM NUMBER GENERATOR system governing gear, right?!

Your statement epitomizes the "**** you, got mine" selfish mentality of the EAWare white knight perfectly. You're also terrible at math and at understanding how probability works.

Just /ignore list him, like I have, and I've no doubt others.

That type can't be reasoned with, because they refuse to be; They got theirs, and screw everyone else.

I game to get away from, among others, that type, but more and more MMOs are doing everything they can to encourage more of them. Let's turn a game into a job where some become "haves" through sheer luck, and everyone else gets to not only "not have," but spend their increasingly miserable existences working harder, for less, so those who already "won" (again, through sheer arbitrary luck) can keep "winning."

There is already a blatantly pay-to-win MMORPG out there that does this, it's called Life Itself, but at least I don't have to subscribe for that privilege.

(Oh, and his attempts to incite a flame-war are pathetically obvious...Maybe I should have reported as well as ignored? That's supposed to be against the rules around here, but as everyone knows, defenders get more equality before the rules than the rest of us. More disgusting RL crap that I can't get away from in this game, anymore.)

  8. Bioware jettisoned their truly devoted cash cows who defended the game (not Bioware) until 4.0 literally threw them out. They're the ones now protesting that the game be brought back to its roots.

What Bioware replaced them with are the inimicals that have the game in its current situation. Well, that and Bioware's narcissism. Other gaming communities who are watching all of this have to be laughing their asses off.

More irony. But then, "BioWare" and "short-sighted" seem to go together an awful lot lately, don't they.

("Inimical" is not a noun, BTW...)

  9. Yep... all these self-appointed defenders of EAWare are, at their core, simply selfish. THEY have the gear they want, so who cares if most other players don't, right? It's all about THEM.

It's disgusting, really. I can't take any of these white knights with the "**** you, got mine," mentality seriously anymore.

Since before launch, there has not been a demographic more inimical to the long-term health of this game and its community than the "defenders," "white knights," "BioDrones"...Call them what you will.

Naturally, the irony of this is lost on them.

  10. [...] I just buy credits from some dude on player auctions [...]

I hope that ^that^ isn't saying what it looks like it's saying.

Because I'm sure you wouldn't cheat, egregiously violate the EULA, and actually buy in-game credits for real money --IE "buy gold"-- now would you?

  11. [...]

Maybe, some time in the distant future, we might be able to resist pulling the lever on a *********** slot machine and just experience a full MMO via subscription... you know, like the good old days...

^That^ wasn't even all that long ago, either.

/Signed, another GenX gamer micro-transaction refusenik (<---second, evolved meaning, ofc)

    The core question, though, is:

How in every Hell that ever was/is/will be have we allowed it to come to this in the first place?

I mean, day-1 paid DLC? Isn't that the sort of thing that got companies shut down and the owners indicted, once?

  12. Exactly.

It's a problem bw simply cannot see or doesn't care enough about to remedy.

They had this plan for a screwed up RNG fest in the hopes that everyone would be excited at the New Gambling Experience in swtor and the truth is. It's highly unrewarding for the time you put in. It's not entertaining to continue to do the same content over and over for so little and very likely nothing of value at all for your play time.

Thing is bw needs this life sucking change to continue because they have no ability to change it back and have no plans to actually make it a better experience as they put all their eggs in the RNG basket to keep gamers playing. We can expect GC to gain new levels from 300 - 390 and higher and the grind start all over again with a drastically decreased CXP gain. As if it wasn't terrible enough for the first 3 tiers. bw...! The kings of designing so little but putting huge effort into getting games to do old content for the 100th time.

The give Star Wars a bad name with how they have done this game.

There are bad gaming experiences and then swtor pulls out a new way to make it worse while doing old content and very little new. Making alt play a complete waste of time because any time on them is a waste on getting into higher ranks of GC on your main. Combine that with the RNG nature of it all and you get exactly what you claim"

A demotivating and demoralizing gaming experience.

What really gets me about this pathetic joke is:

It shows a profound lack of respect for the intelligence of gamers, especially MMORPG gamers.

Indifference, I might tolerate, albeit grudgingly. But that sort of condescending contempt from people whose paycheques depend on keeping people satisfied?

Yeah, to hell with this, and them.

Ben Irving needs to be fired, he's the one who's sucked the life, joy, and soul out of this game, made it nothing more than glorified microtransaction-saturated mobile "game." Yes, EA deserves the blame too, but there's more than enough blame to go around here.

  13. I don't know what happened to that guy specifically, but I know the game caught a terminal case of Ben Irving in the summer of 2015.

How much more bloody obvious does it need to get that Irving is hopelessly un-suited to his position, and his "vision" --read: Gussied-up mobile game-- is a complete, and potentially catastrophic, failure?

How can the people in "corporate" not yet see this?

How can anyone not see that Irving has damaged --possibly permanently-- the SW: tOR and BioWare brands at a time when they really can't afford it?

There's no two ways around it, that guy needs to be fired right now, and hope there's enough left to survive his passage.

    E:

My luck held until approximately Command Rank 45 (starting from about 15ish).

Since then. crate after crate after crate after crate of completely worthless garbage. Command rank 71 so far, and two of my set-armouings are still last tier's, and some of my mods are still crafted 228s.

No, I'm not going to PuG more Ops. My experiences with PuGs since 4.0 have shown me that it's far better to rely on RNGesus whilst soloing story Uprisings and tactical Flashpoints, plus the odd veteran Chapter, than this "sorta not RNG but still really RNG" shell-game.

    This is just pathetic.

That's it, once my sub runs out I''m un-installing. I was fairly certain that I was wrong to re-sub for this event, now I'm absolutely certain of it.

Ben Irving needs to be fired right now.

This is just so utterly pathetic.

  14. Yep, I knew I was wrong to re-sub.

Oh well, only two months left, once I get my current tier optimised, I'm done even thinking about gear, and once the clock strikes, I'm done even thinking about this game.

These people are just...Seriously, how do they even work? They just keep bulldozing their way from nadir to nadir to nadir seemingly completely oblivious to the most obvious of obvious problems and mass customer displeasure.

They just won't stop, it's like they're literally completely unaware of our very existence.

No, seriously, how the Hell does --or how the Hell even can-- that work?

  15. Bit of a break at the moment, but putting much time into Borderlands 2 and more occasionally, Defiance, plus Witcher 3 (if they bloody well get that render-stutter fixed, then I'd be burying myself in it, the world is just perfectly done, in terms of what I want out of real immersion in a real RPG --IE, something SJW-Ware hasn't made in a long, long time.).

Oh, and Skyrim, WatchDogs, and FarCry 2 (among others) are on my to-play list, so...

    ...

Basically too busy to have a lot of craps to give here, even if I had many left to give for the sad joke that BioWare has become since approximately 2012.

Mass Effect: Andromeda will be their very last kick at the cat with me, and...Well, my hopes are very high, but it's really looking less and less good with every new piece of information I find on ME: A.

  16. I would sincerely hope not seeing as I have subbed since launch, been very supportive of the game, respectful of bioware and those who try to improve the game and I'm merely quoting what one of their local friendly "influencers" said on their podcast in language that a 5 year old would understand.

I was trying to reiterate in the simplest of terms of what is wrong with the recent updates ...not to court controversy.

I am glad you found it amusing I thought it was too when the guys at Bad Feeling addressed the topic.

I would love to see the new cxp system and the d v l nightly see-saw abandoned and I look forward to the day when we get more quality content in its place. I am confident it will come.

I got temp-banned after making --granted, harshly-- critical posts shortly before my brief un-sub.

Be careful, the Church of BioWare Positivity brooks no disrespect. (How quickly we forget, eh?)

  17. Good question! In short, when the event ends in 5.2 we are going to also readjust the CXP rates at the same time. The intent is to buff CXP above what it was prior to the event. How high we buff it remains to be seen, but our intent is definitely that you get a crate faster than you did before 5.1.1. Once we get closer to 5.2 I should have more details on what CXP gains will look like.

    -eric

I re-subbed for this event just to see if I could get geared, God help me and God curse me for being a fool.

So far, I only actually have 4/6 set on-tier, my remaining two armourings are still ilvl 216s, and half my slots re the crafted mods/items. This is at GC level 40-ish, with many, many of these insulting gamble-boxes being fed to the disintegrator in their entirety, or nearly so.

I tried to be nice about this, seeing as how I've seemed to have better luck with RNGesus than a lot of people, but there's just no graceful way to put this:

    This is a débacle.

There is no way to fix this, no way to further polish this un-mitigated turd, no way to even hope to start regaining a lot of your veteran players' goodwill without complete reversion to pre-4.0 gearing.

This is a débacle, and Ben Irving has almost certainly permanently damaged both the SW: tOR and BioWare brands because of it.
