  1. I am sorry XCore, but I sort of agree with this. I am a Marauder myself and I think the issue is only 30% fixed. I don't mean to regurgitate my thoughts, but it is what it is.

I am an avid member in this thread and we won't stop Yillin, especially me. Your input is needed so please stick around.

I'll have to try my Jugg when I get a chance to see how it feels. IMHO, it's more than 50% improved on my Sniper and Assassin. Pretty close to that on my Sorc, chain casts behave much better, and it feels a bit more fluid and predictable. Cast bar inaccuracies, ESPECIALLY when experience pushback, are still annoying.

  2. What a joke. I went home from work early today just to try out this new patch which supposedly improves framerates in fleet.

I rush home in anticipation, crack open a cold one, open up my Macbook Air, fire up SWTOR, and guess what... IT STILL RUNS LIKE GARBAGE EVERYWHERE, ESPECIALLY IN FLEET.

Please get it together Bioware. I really want to love this game but you guys are making it incredibly difficult.

You are playing on a horribly slow laptop, what do you expect?

Does that thing even meet the minimum recommended specs? Doesn't it have a sub 2ghz processor and integrated graphics?

  3. Please check my video XCore. The ability between abilities is still there. I agree that there have been improvements, but there is still a delay between abilities. In other words, I don't think just the instants are off.

Try combat abilities. If you check my video, you'll see a HUGE delay on relics activating, but comparatively little on everything else.

I think the improvements were just targeted towards specific abilities. I don't care if class buffs and sprint take half a second to activate if they managed to tighten everything else up to a significant degree.

Don't get me wrong, the problem isn't fixed, but I think you need to try some abilities that matter, it's definitely vastly improved.

  4. the outlook for this game keeps getting darker and darker. Gotta wonder how something as major as combat daily not only made it through a year of beta, but also a month or so past release.

They're fixing it, and making progress. Today saw our first very big, real improvement. They may have screwed the pooch a bit in beta, but if they make up for it now, I'm willing to let it slide. With one little change today they went from bleh, to head and shoulders better than anything other than WoW. That's very encouraging.

  5. I will write more later tonight but first thoughts:

IMMENSE difference.... truly stunning. This is now "Playable"... yes its not done or perfect yet... most noticeably Animation and Sound Sync is not there yet to keypress or input...

I will write more as after further testing but I am very happy with this first effort...

*Note this opinion may change during the course of tonight but initially, it is like playing a different game... I actually believe that it can be perfected from here on... whereas what I played last night felt hopelessly unfixable...

I agree completely. It's more than 50% better, subjectively.

    Here's my video, with timings:

    Dark Ward: Under .03, .2, .2, .16, .07, .13, .1

    Defensive CDs: Under .03,

    Relic: .34, .3,

    Recklessness: .13,

    Force Speed: .1,

Relics are very slow to activate. Three abilities activating completely instantly is marvelous. The others weren't THAT far off from my latency, which has been close to 100 today for whatever reason.

  6. I do believe that this is part of the problem as well. I just got out of my first PvP match after the patch and there most certainly was a noticeable difference; however, we do still have a ways to go.

I was VERY impressed with my performance on the imperial fleet. There's hope for the future of this game yet...

Yeah. They still have a ways to go, but the problem is significantly better with this patch.

If I'm spamming heals, I actually have a cast bar constantly on the screen. The old bar doesn't fade before the new one appears, which tells me my heals are going off VERY close to back to back.

  7. This has NOT been fixed. Abilities like "Slash" which are instant still take 0.5 seconds to do any damage to a target due to the animation taking precedent over the actual attack. This is not a glitch but a design flaw. Either make the ability a 0.5 second cast time, and not instant, or redesign abilities like this to strike instantly while not sacrificing animations. Come on Bioware, this isn't hard.

Look at target HP bars. This is actually a bug with fly text. The ability is doing damage instantly, but the fly text isn't showing that the damage is done until after the animation finishes.

  8. What I found hilariously weird was that during Corellia, when Quinn would report in by holo while the Sith was staying on my ship... he was dressed only in his underpants for some reason. Seriously, not even slightly joking.

The Sith was also saying how much he enjoyed the hospitality on board... I can't make this stuff up.

Did I make Quinn my... er... um... ahem... guest 'entertainment' slave as punishment?

If so that's probably harsher than killing him, that Sith is one ugly... yeah you get the idea.

(please don't ban me for this Bioware! It's your bug!)

Best bug ever. Happened to my leveling partner also.

Even better, Quinn said he was trying to make up for a past indiscretion, and she told him to ****. The Sith then commented that she certainly rode her companions hard, but the results show it paid off. We were both DYING laughing.

  9. In my experience with MMOs, people have always gone to either the most aesthetically appealing side, or the "good guy" side if aesthetics are comparable. In DAOC, Albs (and to a lesser degree Hibs) vastly outnumbered Mids. When WoW launched, Alliance outnumbered Horde significantly. When BC launched, and Horde got BElves, the tables turned (though part of that was Horde gaining a reputation for having more mature and serious players). I never noticed any significant difference in terms of population in my short times playing War or Rift.

In this game, Republic looks like crap compared to Empire, and most people generally praise the Empire storylines as being better than Republic. Boba Fett vs Inept/Expendable, Lightning vs Pebbles, etc. When it comes to JK vs SW, the Sith story is just much more interesting early on, and you're given far more significant LS/DS options. Does any other class get an LS/DS option that results in a completely different quest so early in the game?

When it comes to races, Purebloods are more unique and interesting looking than anything the Republic has to offer, as are Chiss for that matter.

The natural appeal of good guys over bad guys ends up not coming into play as a result.

  10. There are some significant differences in the Taris quest depending on LS vs DS, but they don't play out at all once you actually get her, which is annoying.

For example, as LS, if you claim self defense after killing her masters, she does not object to your claim, and derides herself. If you've followed the DS path, she tells you that you're a douche for claiming self defense after trying to turn her to the dark side.

  11. It's better, but not perfect, and still very inconsistent.

I tested the delay on a few abilities here by recording and advancing frame by frame. I can post the vid up on YouTube if people want to actually see it themselves. I noted the delay for each ability. In the case of Dark Ward, each use is seperated by a comma. Only twice was it .2 or higher. On the first use, there was no delay, the ability activated in the same frame as the button push. Defensive CDs also activated in the same frame as button push. I used both at once, to see if two off-GCD abilities at once would cause any wonkyness. Both relics took .3s or grater.

    Dark Ward: Under .03, .2, .2, .16, .07, .13, .1

    Defensive CDs: Under .03,

    Relic: .34, .3,

    Recklessness: .13,

    Force Speed: .1,

.2 is the VERY high end of acceptable, IMHO. Ideally, I'd like to see everything at .1s or less. Dark Ward was at .1s or less 3 out of 7 times in this simple test.

Relics were very slow to activate, slow enough that they actually seemed slow when playing the game, not just watching the video.

  12. Earlier today, I was soloing a boss-class mob guarding a chest, and a level 12 republic player comes and yoinks a chest, as I'm fighting it, just as the chest spawned /facepalm. I mean they walked over a second or two after the chest spawned, stood there for a moment, and began looting. The boss was friendly to Republic players, so it wouldn't have attacked them regardless, it just kinda annoyed me.

On the plus side, the boss dropped 5k, and a recipe that'll sell for another 5k or so.

  13. [*]No walls

[*]No exhaustion from running into the desert

[*]More mystery. More mystical mysterious Gameplay. You know, like Star Wars

[*]Player Housing on a planet that's non-instanced. No there would not be a blight if they just added rent with limits on how much you could pre-pay

    [*]Pet Mounts

[*]Vehicle Mounts that actually work and feel right. In TOR they just don't feel right. The vehicles in TOR feel and drive like a hula skirt that you're wearing. It feels very fake

    [*]Community

    [*]Pets that are not Companions

    [*]Less Gated Gameplay

    [*]True Open Worlds

    [*]Broker that works

    [*]Guild Halls - Non-Instanced

[*]Food with Stats crafted by Players

[*]Moddable Orange Armor that has a base stat so that it is actually worth something more than appearance

    [*]Faction Balance

These are all ridiculous demands; either because they will simply never, ever, ever happen in a game like this, because they're incredibly vague, or because they make no sense as written.

  14. With these forums, sarcasm is sometimes difficult to detect. I'm at work, so can't test this yet, but is this for real?

I was happy before, but this sounds like nothing but good news.

It's not sarcasm. I'm running about 25FPS better on the fleet, and combat is significantly improved.

Only new bug I've found is that sometimes ability's sounds do not play correctly while channeling/casting, especially mounts, but that's pretty minor if everything is working better.

  15. I still see the issue after logging on... the mount thing is the easiest to test....

What I will say, is that it 'seems' or does feel like in some cases the pre-cast delay as Allocator diagramed it seems to have improved. But again I'll wait till more data has been gathered, but at least it seems to feel a bit better.

Allocator (Thread 4, Page 36) Diagram of Ability Delay Problem: http://i.imgur.com/oGeam.png

However, the larger issue of the execute animation and the damage being applied only after the animation is still there. So there are still no 'real' instant cast spells in this game. All spells have a cast time... and maybe the 'instant' cast spells can essentially just be cast while moving in some cases.

I've noticed on the PTS that the damage of most abilities is very close to instant, BUT the fly text is not.

Meaning when I used an attack on my lowbie Sith Warrior, the target's HP bar moved instantly, but fly text did not appear over its head until the animation was completed. Very odd.
