  1. While that may be true, being a Smuggler does offer you more at range than say a SW. You can effectively strafe kite even as a Scoundrel.

Actually, that's what I do if I am clearly at a disadvantageous position and I don't feel like chancing the backstabs.

If I can stay behind him, it has the same effect. Harder to pull off though.

  2. You're missing the point. Strafing allows you to move faster than back peddling and maintain that gap. If you can put 5-9m of distance between you and melee classes, then they cannot use most of their abilities because their range maxes at 4m and their charge needs to be used over 10m. So if you can maintain that sweet spot you can show them whatever part of your body you like because they simply cannot use their abilities effectively.

Oh, we're talking about two different classes then.

I'm playing a scoundrel(At the moment) and most of my abilities are melee.

  3. wel all I do is pvp in this game nothing else, and everything about movement from other mmo's that I know of works here too.. When i strafe around assassin/operatives they dont get off their best moves leaving me with a win in most cases - and this is because my back is not open to them, i strafe sideway meaning im facing them at all times at the same time mouse turning to make sure they do not circle strafe around me 2 reach my back

    Are you certain?

I mean, when I was facing a level 40 something operative in a warzone on my level 27 Scoundrel, the only reason I knew he wasn't getting any backstabs in was because I was winning. It can be hard to tell from the animations alone.

  4. The important part is movement is king and back peddling hinders movement. If you can effectively strafe targets and keep them 5-9, you can neutralize a lot of classes that way.

I think a little movement speed is an acceptable trade for keeping my opponent away from my back while trying to move away.

  5. nope same mechanics in swtor

Well, I wouldn't know for certain. But I know that if I did what he does in his RIFT video in SWTOR, I'd leave my back exposed.

I tested it too. Strafing away would leave your back exposed. So maybe the mechanics are different than you think they are.

  6. your wrong there , when u strafe your back is not turned towards the opponent - that is why u strafe away instead of completly turning around and running away - there was a link to taugrim's website couple of pages before - should explain it in more detail

I saw that, but that was for RIFT, not SWTOR.

  7. Because it's slower than strafing and I want to keep people 5-9.

So you don't see the tactical advantage of people able to move away from an opponent and keep them in front of you at the same time.

If you strafe away from an opponent, he has your back. And you lose your evasion and all that.

Maybe it's different in other MMOs, I wouldn't know. But in SWTOR, strafing away is no better than just turning around and running away.

  8. Why?

Back peddlers and keeping people 5-9.

I also like to stay constantly moving as to not be an easy target for stealth classes and have a chance of seeing them before they hit.

You know, I never really got why backpedaling is bad in SWTOR.

I mean, I haven't really got into PVP with other MMOs, but in SWTOR you need it to keep people away from your back. Which, in SWTOR's case, includes your shoulders. So really, there's no reason to strafe away.

  9. You know, I have to recede some of my statements here.

After hopping onto my level 27 Scoundrel to take advantage of the new Pre-50 brackets, I found myself circling around like a spaz. Although I still think that it is incredibly easy to keep an enemy in front of me. Hell, this one level forty something operative got the jump on me and I still beat him because I got behind him a lot while he was never really able to.(unless lag prevented that kind of info from displaying.)

Also, you can "backblast" people's shoulders. So relying on strafing away is not a good idea.

Just in case people missed it :)

  10. I think the OP meant "gelded".

    http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Gilded

having a pleasing or showy appearance that conceals something of little worth.

    Yeah, that.

Actually, Battlefield 1942 came out in 2002. The first Call of Duty came out in 2003.

But, don't let facts get in your way.

    Call of Duty 4: 2007

    Battlefield 3: 2011

Battlefield 3 was clearly made in response to the Call of Duty craze.

  11. WoW didn't copy anything from anywhere.

Of course it did, but that doesn't matter because none of those games were nearly as successful as WoW was. In which case, it was successful enough to warrant EA wanting to rip it off.

I still don't get what the point of this argument is. It's not like I said ANYWHERE that WoW was the first MMO. Nor does it have to be the first to be copied endlessly. Especially when this game made oodles of cash.

Is it any coincidence that EA's products happen to be crappier knock offs of incredibly lucrative products?

  12. Because now it is all clear to me.

SWTOR is the single most gilded game I've ever bought. It opened my eyes. It used every trick in the book to make me think that this garbage was gold and I fell for it.

It's been on a downward spiral for a while now. Every change made has contributed to this being another World of Warcraft clone. And I am convinced SWTOR will single handedly kill the subscription model of payment.

EA needs to learn to stop trying to copy success so much. Battlefield was just EA trying to have their own COD, Origin was EA trying to have their own steam.

And now BioWare is EA trying to have their own Blizzard. It's embarrassing and a horrible tarnish on the records of the good people who work at BioWare.

They need to realize that they're just puppets. They're no longer being used to make good games, they're now a marketing ploy. The game has clear evidence of good ideas getting snubbed in favor of EA trying to make it more World of Warcraft.

I have now become another jaded gamer. Thanks EA. :(
