  1. If you roll dirty fighting why didn't you just make a sniper then you'd never have to be in melee range (don't need upper hands)?

    Backstab spec is still viable.

However sawbones is worse than trash in PVP and dirty fighting is ostensibly far better on gunslinger/sniper than it is on scoundrel

Let's also not forget the fact that the imperial equivalent of dirty kick DOES not require stopping to balance on one *********** leg.

Dirty fighting is awkward, but viable. Still needs some work. As for the scrapper tree it got hurt but mainly you now have 2 points you can put into other things, like say endurance?

Scrapper and scoundrel in general still needs work mainly in giving us more more utility to round us out. Or, in my continued opinion, moving the scoundrel to a mid range attacker.

As for Sawbones being useless? I had a marauder and a sorcerer on me and I was out healing them both...until defense screen gave out. Still had one sorcerer on the run while solo defending a door in voidstar though.

  2. Man I feel sorry for NCsoft. There is no way that any game can live up to the amount of hype being piled upon it by every MMO forum malcontent.

I agree and was going to play both since technically I would only pay for one, but I don't want to deal with TWO boards with this much negativity.

How exactly did we breed so many needy unhappy people on the internet?

  3. I can see some non-forcing and possibly being worked on solutions.

    A) Rework illum so that you can get merc coins for kills, more control points is more coins, while having less control points OR having less players on the field means more valor.

    B) Give the republic more species choices, jedi included, that player can choose from.

    C) Allow crafters to get recipies for expertise mods/gear so they modify their gear to their look, give purple lightsaber crystals to crafters

    D) Give an all inclusive bonus for being on the side with less players. This can include more quest reward money, better crit crafting chance, PvE damage bonus, more valor/warzone tokens for win/loss at warzones.

    E) Free transfers for characters to mirrored classes with same level of gear, or as much as possible. To handle the story situation I would simply reset it, if you wanted you could breeze through it.

My bet is option D and E but that would take some coding since D would have to be dynamic with people constantly logging on and off. Hey, might even get people to play more often outside peak hours since more likely you would have the bonus as republic.

  4. The OP may have been a bit off on his message, but the main issue is this: The majority of people here enjoy the game. It is not broken. It has not failed. It is far from complete or perfect, but it is still very enjoyable. We are just sick of people taking it to the extreme and bringing down the overall atmosphere of these forums.

    ^This

Right now I am so ready to walk away from mmos entirely because every time I look at general on the fleet or the fourms all I see is all the negativity. So yeah Bioware stumbled when it come to some of the 'essentials', but geez guys its only been 2 months. Blizzard stumbled many, many, times and it all turned out. Personally I think Rift with its pvp system at least stumbled and kept stumbling but apparently people still like that game.

Give it some time. Apparently most mmos don't really hit their stride till 6 months. Give the creators feedback and time to fix things and it will work out. Besides keeping such a hostile atmosphere can't be good for anyone. Not saying 'love or get out', just if you have a problem give it constructively not 'this game sucks and is going to fail'. Be thankful you live in a situation you can be so demanding of your entertainment.

  5. Did you read the entirety of the post? How often do you press spacebar? Do you feel there's anything problematic with the way some of the Empire quest lines are handled given it's T for Teen rating?

perpetuating age old chauvinistic view of female characters, aiding in slave trades, verifying race purity, sexually abusing a companion who genuinely just wants to help you.

Why does it seem like developers go out of there way to make games unfriendly to women? My girlfriend was literally sickened by it

--and yes she agreed that under the circumstance of a more intelligent, well developed scene the actions could be made justifiably, but as they stand it's just gross. Certainly worthy of an M rating and not fitting the Pixar vibe you get for the other odd half of the content.

Um, seriously just take a good look at commercials. Forget tv, movies, books, just look at commercials and ads and you will see the same. Hint: Ever see the dad doing laundry?

It isn't right, but given how this universe you can either be 'good' or 'bad'. Not a whole lot of grey.

  6. But the PvP is so POOR on this game from a variety PoV.

PvE, yeah ok it's not bad but if you prefer PvP then you're out of luck. If they gave you 3 Flashpoints all the way from L10-L50 then you'd be on here complaining as well. Or suppose I told you that you could only play the BT Flashpoint 10 times in a row and you'd have to do that on a very regular basis ...

This game could have been awesome from both sides and kept both sides happy. But the PvP element is excrutiatingly limited :p It's like they just threw in some competitive multiplayer as an after-thought assuming no one would play it that much. 8-12 hours per Valor level between 50-60 ... in 3 WZs ... yum :D

Never mind that they said, from the start and even in interviews, that pvp wasn't a huge focus. Besides you wowbabies, and this is a term that applies to me since wow was my first game, wow did not have ranked anything for the first year of its game. No warfronts, nothing. The fact that they put in 3 interesting warfronts and a whole planet around it at launch is pretty impressive. Is Ilum broken right now? Yeah, but the players have a part of that problem since you 'hardcore' pvp players continue to exploit games to get your gear then complain that no one can stand up to you and the warfronts aren't fair, or you complain when they can, or you complain you got punished for exploiting.

I said it months ago, that despite this being a good game my biggest fear is these 'hardcore' pvp players were going to ruin the game for everyone. So far vindication has been mine.

  7. I hate people with your "love it or shutup and get out" mentality. Really? does that add anything worthwhile to the thread? The game has serious issues and we WANT it to succeed but it has fallen way short. Don't YOU want the game to improve???

It was a simple question. If you canceled your subscription then why do you care what people feel about a game you no longer wish to be a part of? I never said love it or get out, I just asked why someone who made a point to say they had cancelled their subscription would wonder why people are still playing. If anything I would take more implied snobbery from the OP then my simple question. But since all I have is text I can't say one way or the other.

OP, if you are that much on the fence then keep playing, or even play outside your comfort zone and try some of the PvE stuff. You bought the time, might as well see what else there is. Might even settle that doubt that you seem to have about leaving the game.

  8. It depends on what level you are and how much frustation you want.

A single sawbones in the 1-49 can turn the tide, and it gets esier and better as you level. However when you hit 50 everyone takes a massive power dump, healing worst of all. You simply as a healer as a fresh 50 won't be able to keep anyone up. But as you get gear it becomes very powerful again. In fact you can end up being the entire reason a team wins in the end, easily.

DPS, well, again depends on your level. The scrapper is still useful as long as you don't ever take the knockdown points under 50. After 50 you again take that power dump but it won't be as bad since you are doing what everyone else is doing. You will still die a lot, but getting valor will be quicker since there is more medals for dps then healing at the moment. With the expertise your abilities won't hit as hard as they used to, but if you pick your targets again you can easily sway the battle. However you will be the poor man's melee since your sustained dps stinks and you won't last as long as an assassin/shadow under a lot of fire.

So it comes down to whether you like a support role or a dps role.

  9. I got a response back on my ticket today about Scoundrels.

Unfortunately, we do not have any updates on whether or not the changes made on the Scoundrel class will be revised. I would just advise you to frequently check the website for new and updates

Please do not hesitate to contact us again if there is anything further we can help you with.

Nice becuase I have seen so many BW commments in the forums about Scoundrels.

    "THREAD CLOSED"

You are talking to the wrong department. That is the department that takes and sorts the tickets and answers things they can. Ask a question about an ability and I bet you get a response, probably canned, about checking the website or fourms. It is how pretty much all support works for any mmo.

The team in charge of pvp is the one who you need to ask. Unfortunately they can't say anything without the director's approval and it becomes a big cluster-you know what. I do believe they are working on it. But they don't want to make such a big change that all the kiddies quite because their e-z mode class got super nerfed. Besides to be fair not all got into the sorc/sage AC expecting a cake walk. I didn't go to scoundrel for the dps initially, and my guildie was surprised her sage does so well in the dps pvp field.

It will happen, but I think they are focusing on how to balance the servers first and the sorc problem second. It sucks but even when they do work on it the process will take more then a few weeks.

  10. What's wrong with splitting your time? I mean, just because I love SWTOR doesn't mean that I want to play it in such a manner that I burn myself out. I keep my FFXIV sub going for just that.

Personally I'm looking forward to games like The Secret World and GW2. And I don't see how enjoyment of an MMO has to be a mutually exclusive pass time. It's a game, not a spouse. SWTOR isn't going to leave you if it finds out your playing Guild Wars 2.. And I don't think you're going to get some MMO-comminicable disease from it either.

Variety is the spice of life!

So many people rage quit games when all they really need to do is step back for a little bit and take a small break.

Guess I didn't realize so many people split their time already. Between school and a full time job i'm afraid I wouldn't have the time, but that is why april is a good date since finals should be over close to if not by then. But as a way to prevent burnout isn't a bad idea.

Wasn't really trying to turn this into a debate on Secret world, just stated the game I would be splitting time with. That is why I didn't mention Secret world past the intro. The point is after 2 months in that i'm already looking at other games, and I feel that is a problem. But I have to admit this is the first MMO from launch date i've played. My first ever was wow, but i'm not sure when I started playing compared to launch. Maybe a few months in.

Either way, 2 months is 2 months. I think its more constructive to say what you don't like before you leave then a rage filled post or saying nothing at all. I haven't left yet, and even on trying this other game doesn't mean I will leave then. But since the internet doesn't have a suggestion box I can drop a paper into, this is my feedback to Bioware.

There are lots of things I can rage about, but I thought I was being pretty calm in my post.

Sorry you don't like it. Not the game for you. I'm enjoying it greatly. My whole guild is.

As to the forums. You will never find forums that are not hostile, filled with childish rantings, not on any game. If you chose to leave a game based on the forum traffic, you will never find a game that you will stay with. Its unfortunate, but it is a fact.

Beyond that I believe you are basing your decision on bad reasoning. Not only is this game not finished, it has not yet begun. MMORPGs do not hit their stride until at least 6 months in. That is when you will start to see it beginning to reach its potential. This is not "Call of duty", or any other completed shooter, it is a long term, social, RPG.

Either way, I wish you the best if you leave, but would suggest that you stick to your plan and hang around. It would be most unfortunate to allow the jackwagons on the general board both deter you and create a false illusion of what a MMORGP is.

Its not the forums by themselves per se, its just they really arn't helping my impresson. Or maybe i'm reaching the point in my life where the antics of teenagers is really starting to annoy me. Hopefully I never reach the point where i'm yelling at kids on my lawn.:p

  11. I really, really don't care.

By all means, please go play something else. If you decide to come back, great. We will still be here.

Never said I was leaving. The plan was in the title, split my time. The POINT of the thread, and I put it in there too, was that people shouldn't be looking at other games only 2 months after release. These are my opinions of the game today, on Monday of February in 2012.

  12. In April Funcom will be releasing The Secret World. I don't plan to leave swtor for it, not right away, but I decided to post to explain why only 2 months in I'm getting excited about another game and what is keeping me here.

    Setting:

I initially got excited for this game for one reason above all else, it wasn't high fantasy. Say what you will but it didn't have eleves and mages, much as I like mages, and more of a sci-fi feel. It could do things and had more possibilities then traditional fantasy would allow. Namely in a world where most swords had given way to blasters the possibilities for combat were excellent. Since I had just discovered how much I liked tanking in wow, the possibility of being a vanguard and a ranged tank had me pretty giddy. Even when I rolled a smuggler scoundrel I was expecting more shootouts and ranged/stealth healing.

Sadly I was VERY disappointing by how, even with all these guns, everyone is stuck in melee. I feel pretty much like the kid who gets underwear for her birthday. All the possibilities that could have made the same fresh again, right now, won't be happening. The worse part is if was some sort of pvp balance issue I still can come up with dozens of better ways they could have handled the situation. Right now even though I know its different, it still feels like wow with blasters.

    Story:

I know the voice overs weren't everyone's cup of tea, but to me it really made a difference. I'm not sure I could really ever go to another mmo that didn't try this hard or on this level to draw you in. Not only to hear the reasons i'm out jumping bears for their bums but to hear my smuggler make a smart-*** comment back about it made my day pretty much any time it started to wear on me. As a smuggler at least I can't count how many times the mmo inherent grind was starting to wear on me when suddenly my smuggler would do something or once again got blown up in a cutscene. :)

    Gameplay:

Personally I enjoy the feel of the controls, my only gripe now is I have so many abilities that occasionally after I die I smack my head when I remember that one ability to prevent that. I don't see macros being a good fix since that, to me, reduces the game to a few buttons. The downside to the gameplay is the same as I stated in the setting. In a world where more people have guns then swords why are we reduced to melee? Scrapper to me should have been a mid-range fighter along with Vanguard, but that didn't happen. With so many arbitrary melee fighters it just still feels to much like wow.

    PvP:

On my server the Empire outnumber the Republic 3:1. Even though I started playing in early release my main character is only 25 valor. This is because even though I pvp I pve at the same time. But upon hitting 50 you just hit this wall. The gear wall. Not only is that inherently frustrating, but making the bags so hard to obtain increases it. Ilum, therefore, is a never ending roflstomp for my faction since we are outnumbered so badly. I decided to get up at 5am GMT and STILL the one area to get the very long respawn weapons was covered by about 3 battlemasters and 4 regular empire players. As it is Ilum is not very attractive to anyone trying to get their pvp gear unless your side has more players.

    Community:

In the game people are pretty decent and helpful. Having a better system to meet up with people for flashpoints would be welcome however and was a glaring flaw my entire time leveling up. But that is minor compared to my bigger gripe on the community for swtor.

Most of the fourm posts can get pretty hostile especially if someone has a legitimate concern. Most easily this is seen in the PvP section where numerous well thought out posts get responses of name calling or crying like babies. It happens in all of them to differing degrees. While I know this isn't something that can, or should, be really controlled it leaves me having unpleasant flashbacks to my time in high school. There is no guarantee that other games are better in this regard, but outside wow this is the first its been this bad.

So that is it. Overall I enjoy this game enough to try to stick with it. But I spent a whole week not playing because I really could not muster the drive to go through more unbalanced matches or fight both empire and republic for armaments to get gear. PvE is great, but though a very small portion of the game, you can't really have star wars without PvP. But Bioware take it or leave it, these are my opinions on your game thus far.

  13. Disparity in gear is the reason why it's an MMO. Take away the rewards from things and this post would be renamed "No reason to warzone, it doesn't advance my character at all".

I dunno, The Secret World isn't going to have gear stats or levels so apparently some people out there think you can have an mmo without the gear grind.

I spend most of my time playing pvp, mainly because of time matters and the fact that i don't like being in a large guild and having to follow certain schedules to be able to raid for my gear i just don't have the time to sit at my desk for hours on end raiding.

Over time i probably spend the same amount of time in pvp but in smaller chunks.

Now as i pay the same amount of subs as everyone else and also spend the same amount of time doing what i like best i think that it fair that i have some sort of gear progression as everyone else.

So i ask is it fair and just for someone who only plays pve to be able to pop in a wz and mangle all the people like myself who enjoys the pvp side and like wise a pvp player to able to join a top end raid and top the charts even if he has never earned his gear in pve.

I think not so having pvp gear that reflects your dedication to that area is required to fend of the attacks of raiders joining pvp and making a mockery of the passion of someone else.

So fresh 50,s joining wz have to look at it the same way as if there facing higher bosses in pve raids that there progression will improve in time and effort and gear.

One thing i will say it would help if us pvp players did support new 50 more rather than leaving wz after checking there gear out and some of the real *** hats insulting them.

You know I am so sick of this argument. I know a lot of people pvp and I LOVE to do it too, but how many ONLY pvp? If you look at most mmos the pvp portion is very small, this game too. So saying its some sacred area to protected when its not even half the game before you is kinda...brain-dead. PvP to me is open and instanced pvp. Before I hit 50, and many players have said this, I had fun. But at 50 I hit that same brick wall that I hit in every mmo when it comes to pvp and hit this arbitrary gear grind just to be able to be effective.

Right now if you got even a few pieces of pvp gear you can pretty much breeze Eternity Vault, full set and you are ready for Kragga's Palace. This is the TIER 1 gearset mind you. But in reverse I can't keep my teammates up, can't scratch the battlemasters, and basically feel pretty useless. I say reduce pvp to tier 2 pve stats. If people quite then we can tell them the same thing they have been telling all the 50s who are frustrated at the current setup.

*Ahem* WAHHH, WAHHH, WAHHH, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

  14. Well, with the changes to the bags (in either this patch or next one, its on the PTS currently) you'll be able to start off with 2 Centurion bits plus a Champ bit (if you open 6 bags when you ding 50.) That's Expertise 128... so... your solution is no longer necessary.

Hopefully that is true. Like I said I was trying to put something constructive out there.

i think u dont wanna hear ,u came here only to complain and be a part of the 10 year non stop QQ community in all MMOS.

u can have 200 EXPERTISE without ANY pvp gear ,when u ding 50 lvl. its out there search for it and play the game!

What complaints? I gave an opinion and a possible solution. Don't they teach what constructive criticism is in school anymore?

As for this 200 free expertise, a quick google search showed nothing so what are you talking about?

  15. I do not want BW to change anything. The game is fine the way it is and it will only get better when they change the way the bags work. I do not have extremely high of expertise, but it gives me a goal to play for. Just adapt to the game rather than expecting it to adapt to you. You will be a whole lot happier.

Not expecting things to adapt to me personally. I said that things to easier for ME. This implies that I am past the hump of utter frustration into lands if mild frustration. You want SOME frustration to drive players forward, that is where the drive to do better comes from. However I don't ever feel a fresh 50 should have a huge power dump after hitting 50. But that is exactly what you get especially going against a battlemaster.

Not all players have the same tolerance for frustration. Just like not all people have the same tolerance for pain. Reducing the perceived and actual imbalances in pvp makes it easier for people to get through the grind. My standpoint and what I have to gain is someone who just crossed the chasm and turned around and out a few planks across it.

  16. As a man whose first alt dinged 50 two days ago, I disagree. Without any pvp gear in warzones, although I am admittedly quite squishy, I still do just fine. I'm normally gettin around 7 medals or so, and while it may not be as good as I will be able to do once I start getting some pvp gear (which is sufficient in terms of speed, imo, even if I have to buy it with centurion comms) it is still a lot of fun. Not sure what all the QQ is about - play your class better, and you'll be perfectly fine. The only people I can see having a problem are healers, who are very severely gimped by gear. And hey, if that's the case, either respec DPS or find a tank willing to actually stay with you and protect you.

So what class/ac are you and which faction? I have a suspicion but rather ask then accuse.

In the current system players que up and hope that the opposite side isn't a bunch of battlemasters and their team a bunch of fresh 50s. Why? Cause most likely your team will lose. This will occur in 2 ways. People know losing is a forgone conclusion and leave thus giving the opposing team victory by foirfit. Or you spend however long it takes the opposing team to win. With this system hopefully it evens up the heavily unbalanced playing field so that players can feel better by at least trying. I stick to warfronts no matter what since I get more bags on my server by buying them so far then trying to do the dailies or weeklies.

  17. If my team is busy defending and I go take a node by myself because there is only one defender, the dot interrupting me long enough for him to respawn, come back, and dot me again is ridiculous, there is no justification for it.

    Jugg doesn't have one.

So you are mad that one person is able to defend a node in a map that only has 8v8 and three nodes where the majority of the players fight in the center and can only afford a single defender for their likely only one other node? *breaths deeply* Why the audacity!

  18. Ok, been trying to think of something constructive to put forward for PvP and realized why I was so frustrated. Well besides the RNG bag system. This game is having the same problem as Rift did with its multiple gear expertise stat imbalance. Not an exact comparison but anyone who came to the game and tried to go up against tier 6 would remember the feeling of an utter power dump.

PvP doesn't get easy, but it does get bearable once you get maybe 2-3 pieces of gear. In my case I finally got a relic, helm, and implant. The implant being tier 1. I think that is about 115 expertise. Why not give that much to players? Either a base stat or maybe even a npc gives you a buff in wf. I personally see a buff that lasts an hour, with a cap at how much expertise you can get. If you took the stat all the succeeding gear's expertise would have to be reduced to reflect it.

This way players who didn't take advantage of the exploits, new 50s, or those who have just been unlucky with gear have a more even footing. Battlmasters still can own and have actual competitive gameplay. Those who have been crying foul at how it wasn't fair for this or that reason against the current battlemasters have less of a leg to stand on. Finally fresh 50s have more incentive to play since, at least in warfronts, they have more equal footing to the players who have been playing for month(s).

  19. i hear a lot off Q_Q ing over here.

    we've all been their

Just keep playing you'll get more skill from fighting better geared poeple. You need to get really creative and learn you class. by the time you get valor 60 and get your gear, after hours and hours and yet more hours of play time you will have earned your right to wear battlemaster and own pvp.

The harder the fight the greater the reward, and because off all the experience of fighting beter geared people once your on the same lvl it will be easy.

and how would you justify all those hours someone esle has already put in the game to go to waist just because your so lazy you want to have the same stats as they do the moment you hit 50 !?

Um, again in 2 months we know that most of the top tiered pvp players got their stuff by trading control points or taking advantage of the imbalance on Ilum. Attacking lower lvls in pvp too. So how 'hard' was that fight and how many hours was that again?

  20. Full Battlemaster is 12.66% 704 Expertise.... I know, I'm there after PvP'ing almost exclusively since level 10 with the exception of my class quest line. I have 18000 HP on my Mercenary, I've seen people walking around with 22000+ HP on PvE gear. Let's not forget that pots are base HP based, so the 22000 person gets close to 8000 HP per pot! How is this that unfair? Seriously... quit the QQ for PVP gear nerf, it's not the gear. It is getting really, really old that people who PVE all the time, do all the little side quests and flashpoints, then want to come in minis or open pvp and just faceroll players as well. The day BW nerfs PVP gear will be the day most of the PVP community leaves the game.

Don't cry that your 50 is getting planted in warzone, when I was leveling I had to go against 50s in warzones ;with my level <50, from people who power leveled since early release... I stuck with it and gradually got better, I suggest you do the same or go back to your instances.

    Have a nice day!

Wait what? So you say that PvP is an exclusive club? Look it, 3 warfronts and a planet is not even HALF of the content. I am a pvp player but I also spend my time raiding and other stuff, but I just got off at 6am gmt and even then there were 7 imps controlling the only spot to do your daily pvp. Maybe I should argue that you pvp players should have your gear nerfed because you can get the tier 1 stuff and start raiding with no problem. Gear up in hard modes like everyone else or go back to you endless circling on Ilum.

Look all you kids, still at home adults, or even ones with no life. A fair portion of the players has other responsibilities besides playing a 'game'. This isn't a job, I don't get paid to play, and unless you are a farmer I doubt you do either. Stop insulting everyone who wants to make the game a little more accessible because right now i'm finding less and less an urge to pvp. Which I bet the two of you are imps so more Huttball for you.

Right now the PvP is dying because the Empire is outnumbering the Republic 3-4:1. Most of the PvP community wants republic to get better geared because endlessly steamrolling gets old.

  21. Unfortunately that post is why games think it is so necessary. After all how can people show their elite skills if they can't trounce someone without them scratching the paint job? Never mind that it has been well established that most battlemasters either got that way by control point swapping or taking advantage of the 1.1 valor imbalance on Ilum. No, we should 'earn' our gear the hard way like they did.

Actually OP, that sort of system gear equalizing on Ilum might be what it takes to save the planet.
