  1. OP updated.

I'm thinking of cutting the 8-man to Top 10 instead of Top 15. My only concern is other classes will definitely not see the light of Top 10 because of the nature of some mechanics. Should we keep it at Top 15 or reduce it down to Top 10?

I'd be against this idea but i'm biased, being a merc.....Up to you.

You're absolutely right in the fact that only 3 classes will dominate the parse lists, however, with some outliers from other classes (possibly).

  2. Just a minor correction to the 8 man Op IX fight. These are in the wrong order.

Great format, paowee, and thank you for your hard work!!!! Keep it up!

  3. Thrasher on nightmare. The log is cut until we killed it. We hit enrage and killed him as soon as we could. I then proceeded to kill the snipers and demolitionist up top as per this log: http://www.torparse.com/a/376189/36/0/Overview

Judge for yourself the best cut time, but i cut it to where we killed it, and i started to try and kill the snipers from the bottom.

  4. I didn't die on this fight. This is the original: http://www.torparse.com/a/374543/8/0/Overview

In the log, you can see

    "20:33:29.189 Knopik activates Heatseeker Missiles.

    20:33:29.189 Knopik spends 16 energy.

20:33:29.407 Knopik gains 50000 threat on Twisted Spawn.

20:33:30.559 Twisted Spawn's hits Knopik for 5258 elemental damage, causing 5258 threat.

20:33:30.566 Knopik's Tracer Missile effect of Heat Signature fades from Twisted Spawn.

20:33:30.576 Knopik's Tracer Missile effect of Heat Signature fades from The Writhing Horror."

I activated Heatseeker but it never hit, it died before it hit, as signified by the Heat signature buff fading from the Writhing horror. I didn't die at all in the fight. the parse BELOW is trimmed until the heatseeker activation.

It's possible with precasted OS and Ambush.

From that parse, I would look at my damage to writhing horror. It gets interrupted after 2 ticks of unload for me, which signifies death. I afterward, switch targets to jealous male/adds to finish off the fight. I wouldn't switch prematurely cuz it's a burn in the end to kill the boss.

    Just...how it happened for me.

I died after killing the writhing horror to adds/jealous male. You can see at

"0:27:05.259 Knopik's Unload hits The Writhing Horror for 133 energy damage, causing 133 threat."

That was my 2nd tick of unload which got interrupted by the horror's death.

From start to finish of fight, here is the log.

  7. I think the top 8m parse BH arsenal merc mirror to the commando gunnery is a 2.7k dps log that is extremely aoe heavy on the parse.

*Knowing how to utilize your damage :)

Never let an explosive dart go alone, utliize flamethrower so agents can use their orbital later, utilize fusion missile placement to hit both boss and adds, utilize DFA to hit 4 adds instead of 1-2 + sometimes the boss (sometimes, 1 to 2 times I got lucky with DFA).

Like people here said, dps'ing the dummy is one thing, dps'ing on bosses is another. One thing is to always utilize what you can, on every fight...dummy won't teach that, but it'll give you the muscle memory to learn it in raids while still doing the best single target dps you can.

  8. Very annoying mechanic/bug that can wipe an otherwise flawless run. Here's what I've heard as explanations work arounds:

-Taunt the boss right after the black obtuse channel ends.

-Taunt the boss right before the black obtuse channel ends.

-Everyone must be inside the shield around Operator when black obtuse channel ends.

-It's a heal check and you just have to have everyone topped off.

I've tried all of the in NIM as the main tank. The first 3 do not work 100% of the time, at best they work 50% of the time. The last strategy isn't really a strategy, but is a blunt and straight forward way of dealing with it, but it can be pretty difficult some times.

i've read somewhere that it's a mechanic intended for the 2nd highest person on the threat table. The way we dealt with it in my old guild was to have a tank use an ability right out of shield then taunt, then have the other tank use 2(!) abilites and taunt, that way both tanks are #1 and #2 on the threat table. Worked most of the time.

(not guaranteed to fix as it worked for us and may not work for others, idk the mechanic still, this is all done under the assumption we made)

  9. The guy edited his log to give him higher numbers. You can tell because the threat is different then damage for several moves and the 2 parses previously linked have the same time stamp but different numbers. Diff numbers can be seen to come from only HiB and PC, by having a much higher crit rate in the edited parse.

That's... a lot of effort to doctor a parse. I can't, however, explain the difference between damage and threat as it's always equal or 1. Hm.

  10.

1: Mercenaries struggle in pvp because they can be fairly easy shut down by an opponent that knows what they're doing (better now, but the problem still exists). S why are mercenaries the only ranged class without access to some sort of interrupt immunity? Snipers have it all the time (in cover) and Sorcerers have it through a cooldown, why are mercenaries singled out to not have that ability?

I like this for pvp. Having interrupt-immunity would definitely help merc not being so easily shut down in pvp.

3: Why doesn't Mercenaries have any sort of execute ability or other damage boost on targets below 30%?

This is a good point. I know pure dps classes have executes, but so do juggernaughts and assassins, which both can tank OR dps. I would like this answered/remedied if possible at all

Odawgg's questions mirrored what I was thinking.

  11. I agree but what else would you have proc it? Rapid shots? lol there isn't a whole lot in our rotation so maybe just "On Damaging abilities"? Though that would mean that Unload could proc Barrage. I definitely agree though, I have had times where I'm just proc starved and its terrible.

Well, the list could be extended to missile blast (on the move) and they could increase the percentage of it. Sometimes that 45% feels like 4.5% where I go a full MINUTE without barrage procs. It's ridiculous. It's never 45% among my parses. The lucky ones are 45+ percent, rest of the time it's less. Just...maybe take out the RNG factor of it.

Like someone said with sniper, their main damaging ability, follow through, is not on a proc. Nothing snipers do procs a high damage ability, everything is on a cooldown and very neatly organized.

Leaving mercs with their highest damage ability being RNG is retarded.

  12. Eventually the boards will be "most accurate" several weeks from now when ~everyone is in 75s. Until then people can post parses for the fun of it. If you want to delve deeper into the parse and ignore the big red number, you will find that DPS is actually irrelevant. When comparing logs of the same spec, you can see the more important things such as # of hits or # of ability activations and that is what people need to look at instead of DPS numbers imho.

Parse A has X number of ability activations over 5 minutes and did 3200 DPS

Parse B has the same X number of ability activations over 5 minutes and did 3000 DPS because he is undergeared

for all intents and purposes both people "played just fine". Once in a while the stars align and you see someone post something like:

Parse C, which has the same X number of ability activations over 5 minutes, but had 15% more crit chance and did 3600 DPS.

Parse C did not do something extremely "pro" compared to Parse A and B. He just had more lucky crits.

Parse A is not better than Parse B, he just had more gear. These things people can see if you look past the DPS numbers and spend a little time figuring out # of ability use or ability activations all of which are available in the Log section of torparse. Turning these threads into a i have bigger DPS #s boards i think defeats the greater purpose of these threads. It can help people improve by pointing out what they need to do more, or what they are doing less. This is why i dont think there needs to be a flag for people in 75s and why the focus should be less on DPS #s (which stands out) but more on ability usage (which does not have a # attached to it) when parsing on the training dummy.

    Just an opinion :o

    That makes sense.

  13. Mercs have healing (that isn't great), but if they use it, their heat goes way up and they're DPS consequently goes down because of the heat problem. Snipers have mitigation from several abilities AND have better resource management. Honestly, I don't see much point of comparing the dummies, all it shows is that a couple of really talented people got lucky enough in the parses to be CLOSE to Snipers. They don't show what happens in the field where it matters. And what's so hard about boosting a few abilities a tiny bit to make it more even?

You're right. To get those good parses, a merc has to basically rely on the RNG. Unload procs and crit need to be friendly with you for that parse. I've had parses with 50+% HSM crit, but 15% unload crit and almost no procs (compared to the average), that parse sucked. I've alos had parses with CRAZY UNLOAD PROCS, but terrible crit % on abilities across the board, that parse sucked. The only good ones, 2900+ are with good RNG. I won't even go into 3000+ range.

Snipers don't need the RNG, their rotation is uninterruptable. They don't rely on procs for their hardest damaging ability, it's always there. (just one comparison).

If they upped the unload chance, then it'd help. 45% sometimes seems like 4.5% on my parses. I go 45 seconds and more without an unload proc at times, and not just once, but several times in a row. It's just either buggy, something related to position, or i'm just very unlucky. I've found that if I have bad procs, and if I move, my procs will come back...but that may just be a huge coincidence.

As for suggestions, lower the CD of electro net to 1 minute so it lines up with other cooldowns. Either lower the cd of power surge to 1 minute or make it longer to 2 minutes so it lines up with cooldowns. And increase barrage proc rate.

  14. I lawled at that post too, Odawgg. (Sorry, I just refer to you as Odawgg since thats what I'm used to)

Since I have absolutely horrible luck (and just 72 gear), I don't necessarily try to ever attempt to beat Odawgs 3100 parse since I'm not at that gear level JUST yet. Someday.. some day..

Normally I just feed on poptarts and ramen to sate that desire.

It's doable, just have to get a bit lucky ;)

Also on the note of the old 4 piece bonus...It's not necessary in my opinion. You can do well with the new bonus...it's just easier and makes it less cluttery when using rail shot. However, if you worry less about heat, theoretically, you may be able to pump out more dps...maybe I have to run a EC HM as well ;)

    Good stuff, odawgg...keep it up
