  1. Do you mean more one-dimensional than Xalek?

If players opted for the darkside-option, devs could make her return as a cyborg. We all know how difficult Sith are to kill..

Xalek makes me rage. He isn't really one-dimensional, but I would prefer that if he was a proper apprentice. His concern for his family was downright dis-heartening. I was looking forward to having him as my apprentice for the whole game, then he comes to me and says, "Can I go take time out from training, weakening myself, so I can do something for someone who is already dead, that I won't benefit from in any way?" I wanted to cry. I felt very hurt and betrayed.

  2. I don't mean affection gain or loss, I mean like making her my apprentice, too. Then, I could pretend to favor one while in the company of the other. They would hate each other, and it would be awesome.

Sith Apprentice Naked Jell-o Wrestling. GO!

Aside from the rather crude joke, you actually kind of hit on a good point. One thing Thana could serve as, is a focusing point for Jaesa's rage. Force Jaesa to compete for and hold her position as your apprentice. Showing favor to one where the other can see it, preferably via eavesdropping, would be a great motivator.

  3. Sounds like a bug.

That out of the way, I bet she still pales in comparison to that one girl who knelt in front of Vader at Disney-whatever. Unless that was your sister, in which case I would strongly consider sleeping with one eye open and a weapon under my pillow.

  4. If you're playing Republic, then I'm mildly surprised.

If you're playing Empire, then here's the clarification:

Empire vastly outnumbers the Republic players on just about every server I checked out. Grotesquely. This not only means there's a higher chance of bumping into a cocksocket, but there's the factor of "Empire is teh darkz and badazzes," so you'll get quite a few wannabe-stoic-awesomeness emo morons who fuel their desire to slash their wrists by talking down to newbies.

Regarding the Republic, however, I'm yet to run into a douchebag of any sort thus far, and I've played on my server since EGA. There's the occasional illiterate shrew, but no degenerate little *****. :jawa_wink:

With all of the responses like this, I must play on the worst server in the game or something. Empire vastly outnumbers Republic on my server as well, but when I go and play my Republic alt, the community is actually a lot worse. I remember first getting to Tython, and typing in general, "Wow, Tython really is a beautiful planet." In about a second, someone managed to type out, "Take the dick out of your mouth you troll ****." It was worse than Dromund Kaas general chat.

  5. Why do people ask questions that can be googled or found in the codex?

Because instead of spending the extra 10 seconds to do their own search, they expect other people to look it up and type the answer out for them.

Believe it or not, we are here to play the game not make getting your answers easier.

This sort of attitude really irks me in guild chat as well. People ask questions in guild chat and when they don't get a response or are told that they can google it, they get all bent out of shape like the guild is supposed to be their own personal customer support or something.

Yeah, how dare they expect basic human decency out of you! Why, they should be slapped in irons and lashed publicly. I bet you snarl at people when they ask you for the time of day too.

  6. According to the Darth Plagueis novel, during the 1000s year rule of two, at an unknown time one of the rule of two sith converted to the jedi order, and took with him the secrets of sith soul transfer and force ghosting.

Well, now we know how the Jedi got their hands on Book of Sith: Secrets of the Dark Side. I was wondering how Yoda and Windu acquired that and held onto it long enough to write notes in it. Really, I thought that book was to be the source of that knowledge, apperantly the source of that knowledge was also likely the thing that brought that book into the Order.

  7. Examples of quality technical writing, and good stories:

    New Jedi Order 13: Traitor:

New Jedi Order 19: The Unifying Force

Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor

    Clone Wars book 2: Shatterpoint

    Average writing and good stories:

Thrawn trilogy, and pretty much anything written by Timothy Zhan.

    I Jedi.

    The Courtship of Princess Leia

    Revan Novel

    Darth Bane: Path of Destruction

Below average writing, but good stories:

The other two Darth Bane books.

    Darth Maul Duology.

New Jedi Order 9: Star by Star

    Fate of the Jedi

Below average writing and below average story.

Almost anything written by Karen Traviss and Troy Denning. Some of KT's Republic Commando novels are bearable, as is some of Troy Denning's work in Fate of the Jedi.

  8. I agree that quests DS/LS options need work, that's one in particular that should have had 3 options (2 DS and one LS) I've run into those quests before, which is pretty cool.

I've said before, they spent too much time on voice acting (and even there it's annoying hearing the same lines over and over) and not enough time on content and quest development.

It was getting really hard for me to believe that actual conversations were taking place when my characters kept giving the same pat-responses over and over again. After a while they really did start to sound like recorded messages.

  9. Not happy with the story? Join an RP server and make your own dammit.

I did one better. I wrote my own for the Star Wars RPG and my friends play through it. That said, if the quality for a thing that I have purchased is low, I have a right to complain about it. If a restaraunt serves you a steak with mold on it, the patron sitting in the booth next to you should not react by saying, "If you don't like it, go cook your own steak," when the customer who was served the moldy steak makes a perfectly legitamite complaint.

  10. Okay. Can someone explain the reason why the last boss of the Inqusitor storyline is fighting you?

Because between all of Bioware's top-notch writing staff (and the exceptions that aren't so good) they literally could not think of anything better. Seriously, that is it. It just isn't viable at all. If Thanaton wasn't completely off his rocker, he would have just tried to assassinate you. For now, I am going with the idea that Thanaton was kept around because the Dark Council sees him as a running joke due to his activities back when he was still known as Teneb Kel.

  11. The game's decided your character is more intelligent than you, pretty much.

By this I mean, not all Sith are 'RABBLE RABBLE BLOOD AND GUTS RABBLE RABBLE'.

Some are smart enough to recognize valuable resources and not waste them.

That is materialistic thinking though, which doesn't mesh with Sith philosophy. Someone who is a true disciple of the dark side, who really follows the spirit of Sith teachings, would absolutely butcher Quinn. Sparing him would be an act of mercy, and you do not show mercy on enemies, and Quinn made himself your enemy when he betrayed you. You might see it as a waste of resources, but are you really so weak that you might need Quinn for something at some point? If you are worried about what you are losing by killing Quinn, maybe you should look at becoming strong enough so you don't need to rely on him, or anyone else for that matter. That is how Sith operate.

  12. They are all over the place. While we didn't technically see it on screen, Dooku was skilled the art of dual-wielding. Anakin tried it. Mace does it spectacularly in Shatterpoint. Luke is seen dual-wielding numerous times in post-RotJ content. Kavar dual-wielded. Ventress did so as well. Then of course there is the actual Jar-Kai subform, which has its technical and philosophical roots in Niman. Oh, that reminds me, Exar Kun also dual-wielded, he also used a double-bladed lightsaber.
  13. The light side option in that particular example turned the creatures to the dark side and made them leave the area. They don't join the empire, but just go do their own thing, which would now be whatever random stuff a darkside follower would be thinking up of doing.

It scares me a little that a group of people as large as Bioware's writing staff could pull off the mental gymnastics required to call something like that light side.

So yeah, it certainly doesn't help trying to claim light side is what aids the empire as the example illustrates quite clearly. Heck, there are enough missions as an empirial player where you deal with backlash from 'wild' dark force events/personae, so if anything, the choice has the potential to be harmfull to the empire in the future.

That having been said, on a purely theoretical level I would also disagree personally with that stance. Light side vs dark side is something that is determined by "the force". It is a phenomena by itself, not tied to either the republic or the empire. Force aligments and factions doesn't have anything to do with each other inherently. Just like being a guy or girl doesn't have anything to do with how well you cook or drive. ;)

Pretty much. The only way they intersect, is that Sith teaching basically amounts to, "follow the dark side," and Jedi teaching amounts to, "follow the light side." That is a ittle bit of an over-simplification that misses a few key points about both organizations, but it works for this purpose. The Sith, being the ruling body of the Empire, generally run the Empire to be dark-sided, and much of the Empire reflects that.

The Republic is kind of their opposite, but not really, as the Jedi serve, rather than rule. While this creates an atmosphere in which the light can grow, it is not forced like the dark is in the Empire, so it doesn't grow as much as the dark side. Then again, it can't be forced anyway, so it wouldn't, by it's very nature, grow as much, anyway.

  14. 2: considered that most dark side choices seems to actively hinder the empires capability to gather inteligence (kill anything and anyone just for fun), and that the inteligence network/capabilities of the empire is respected enough to be considered a threat by the republic, I would wager that there's quite a few sith that aren't necesarily front line assault material which are behaving less 'wastefull' with resources.

Play the Imperial Agent story and then wait until you find out just how Darth Jadus is handling Imperial Intelligence.

Questivers encountered as a empire player seems to vary a bit. Some are the archetypical 'evil douchebag' that wants you to commit wars of crime, but there are also some that are just trying to make things work for the better given the situation. One example is on some planet I can't remember the name of, where one questgiver tells you to boobytrap communication devices and plant them on fallen corpses so the republic will gather them. A guy you talk with during the quest explains he's not too hooked on the idea as anyone, kids included, could stumble upon them and try to use a communicator, so you get the option of letting him rig the boobytraps on grenades instead, which only soldiers would be asumed to try and use.

Well, ignoring their point system that they use in this game to measure the quality of a person's inner being (which I find to be laughably stupid) in the actual setting, what that guy is suggesting is still absolutely dark-sided. Just not as bad.

3: Considered the jedi met in the game attempt to murder in cold blood...

Don't exagerate. They attempt to engage you in combat, to fight you to the death. They do not try to murder you in cold blood. That said, killing in Star Wars is dark-sided, period. No matter who is doing it, or the reason for the killing.

any sith they encounter while hurling insults at them to boot, I fail to see your side of field. As a sith, it is practically impossible to have a friendly chat with a jedi untill you've beaten them in combat, cause they will attack you irregardless of what you say.

I have yet to run into a Jedi that hurls insults, on any of my Sith characters. The Sith characters on the otherhand insulted the hell out of my Jedi character even when I was nice to them.

On a somewhat related note to lightside Sith, Jaesa tells at one point during companion conversations that she has been able to find through her morality scanning, that there are other sith like her and her lightsided sith master, so I wouldn't call it a unique phenomena, given what the game states.

Other Sith like her? Jaesa Wilsaam is a monster once you turn her. What exactly does she mean by, "like her?" Maybe some behave more or less honorably than others?

In either case, Jedi, being what they are, should specifically have been more trying in attempting to see the good in people,

Jedi are not supposed to try and see good in people. There are only three things Jedi are supposed to do, in order from greatest to least. Serve the Force, show loyalty to their fellow Jedi, and defend the Republic. That is what is known as their three loyalties.

or try the path of negotiations rather than just pulling out their weapon and charge with a bloodcurdling scream. Having them go practically berserk just seems to me to be the direct opposite of what I think jedis are supposed to be: calm, restrained and always in control of themselves.

Again, bad writers who don't pay attention to the setting should not be allowed to touch Jedi.

  15. The Jedi could be thought of as the gardeners of the Force, and the Dark Side being the weeds. In any case, there's no such thing as the perfect Jedi; in the troubled times the game is set, with the Order struggling to rebuild, there's likely plenty of folk who aren't following the Code as well as they should, or putting the defence of the Republic over the redemption of the wayward. We're not seeing the Jedi at their best...

We are seeing the Jedi at their best. The vast majority of them behave like proper Jedi.

  16. The revanites would like to have a word with you.

Revanites aren't Sith. They aren't Jedi either. Revanites are Revanites.

There are also light side npcs on the empire side, included among force users.

There are a couple less harsh NPCs on the Empire side, but they are hardly light-sided. They are all hate-filled, angry people who want nothing better than to hurt the ones who hurt them. That is not light-sided. There are no light-sided characters amongst the Empire's Force users.

These guys are supposed to be the epitome of control and selfrestrain, yet the game treats them as murdering psycopaths when facing empire players.

Yep. That is why there will be designated canon versions of the story paths for each class, and others that will fall into the realm of non-canon. That said, even though you are drawing closer to the light as a light side Sith, you are still a dark side Force user in the actual story, which means,by your very existence, you are a threat to the whole galaxy.

  17. I think you learn more about jedis and their "morality" by observing their behaviour towards you when you play a lightside sith, tbh.

Hardly, the Jedi NPCs that do show up when you play as Sith are horribly inaccurate prtrayals of what they are in the setting, and I highly doubt that the light side choices change that portrayal much. Besides, in Mace Windu's own words, Jedi are not creatures of morality.

A more biggoted and predjudiced group of individuals you'll be hard pressed to find, is my experience in the game so far.

The entirity of the Sith empire is built on a doctrine of facism, prejudice, and racism. Since you have played a Sith character, I know you know this. Or you decided to ignore all the occurences of that kind of thing.

Light side sith: "I have no quarrel with you, I'll just turn around and walk away."

Jedi: "No way! You're a sith! you should die! rawr!"

Light side sith: "That is not the way of the jedi..."

Jedi: "Who are you to teach us what the way of the jedi are!" <Jedi attacks the lightside sith unprovoked>

I think I've met.... 2 jedi so far that didn't attack me unprovoked but actually agreed to just talk it out. The rest I've met seemed to favour trying to murder me, which is somewhat ironic, given their supposed tie to the light and way of 'peace'...

The simple and obvious answer is that those Jedi do not match canon portrayals of what Jedi are. Which isn't surprising, considering that this wouldn't be the first time that writers that aren't Stover, Lucas, or Luceno managed to screw up Jedi, and the Force in general.

  18. i have been with wow since day 1 and i can say this is a better launch i can actually get in the servers and play way better then wows launch

In terms of technical quality and playability, absolutely, yes, by miles. In terms of community, well, the WoW community is a lot more bearable than this. I swear, something about online Star Wars communities, and RTS communities just brings out the worst in people.

  19. Hah. I've never played it, but I'll make sure to steer clear. xD I honestly love League of Legends as a game, but the community drove me off after a few months. I'll play occasionally, but it'll either be a bot game or a full premade with my friends. And even then there's no guarantee that the opposing team won't be douches.

I don't mind reading the Tribunal though. I can skim through most of that without reading the minutia.

I feel pretty much the same. I still play LoL once a day for my win of the day, and to collect champions that I think are cool. Even in bot games though, I always find that one player that feels like it is their sacred duty to be the biggest ****** they possibly can. New World of Darkness is a tabletop roleplaying game, so you won't have to worry much about their online community unless you go to their forums.

  20. I'm at a dilemma when it comes to this.

I prefer to play on my own. I will never ask to form a group but I don't mind joining groups when others ask.

I also don't mind spending my time helping other people do things like getting datacrons or beating an enemy.

However, sometimes this contradicts my play style. If I get too friendly with other people they then, from there on out, won't leave me alone. Just before someone I helped yesterday (10 levels younger than I) followed around with me as I did some solo missions. They couldn't do anything except follow me around, take half my loot and get experience points.

I don't mind helping people out when they ask. In fact I honestly don't mind stopping what I'm doing to go out of my way to help... but if it means people are going to just follow me around like a lost puppy, it doesn't make it worth it. And no, I do not want to use the ignore feature.

Also, it's extremely stupid of someone to tell you to google a question. You're in the middle of a game, it would be faster for them to tell you than for you to minimize the game, open a browser, load google, type your question, and then read everything until you understand it, then maximize the game again.

Hehe, yeah, know the feeling. Some guy even joined the guild I was in because I told him where to find his AC trainer.

  21. Couple things:

    1. "In the codex" is being helpful (as is pointing you to Torhead), they're telling you how to find out the answer to not only the question you just asked, but also the answers to the next million questions you will want to ask in the future. They've just saved you some time and frustration. "In your mom" would be the troll answer.

I more or less agree with this, but if you have the time to tell them where to look for future answers, you have the time to properly answer their current question. When someone asks me a question, I answer then question they actually ask, then I borderline harras them until I am convinced they have actually recorded TorHead's URL, and made notes to look in the codex, for future questions. Sorry, but just leaving it at, "look at "X" is not good for the community, and doesn't do anything to foster an atmosphere of mutual trust and cooperation.

    2. You say this is your first MMO, which means you've been playing for a month now. The people you meet in Warzones are often people who have been PVPing for a while now.

I see where you are going with this, problem is...

No offense is meant, but they don't want your strategies, they know what they're doing.

I call bs. No one in Warzones knows what they are doing, anywhere, at any time, ever. Obviously I exagerate, but I do so to make a point. There are many, many, many people out there who have in total, been playing MMOs and pvping for 10 years or more, and the vast majority of them are complete idiots.

I would like to note that I make no pre-judgments about anyone I meet in warzones or BGs and have on several occasions asked others in those environments for advice, and have several times recieved good advice. That doesn't change the fact that players who are truly quality players are a rarity, as anyone who has tried to put together a top-notch pvp premade or raid group can attest to. Unless you are on one of those servers that all of the world class players gravitate toward to.

If they've qued solo, it means that (speaking for what I've experienced, I obviously don't know for everyone) they want to relax, have some fun, just go out and kill someone because they picked the other faction. If they're running in a premade group, they already have a strategy, and they've probably seen so many people who get grouped with them randomly that don't know what they're doing that they aren't going to take you seriously.

The good news is that those players who have been playing PVP forever started where you are now, and if you keep going with it instead of deciding that ******es on the internet is a deal breaker for you, you might get good and find a group of people to play with. If, after you get some experience, you decide to listen to some new guy when he puts up a strategy, you'll probably make some kid's day.

I mostly agree with all of this, just feel like it is worth noting that there is nothing wrong with at least hearing any strat out so you can check it for viability before dismissing it. No one likes being dismissed out of hand. When people do that to me in real life, I start plotting revenge. When it happens on the internet, I explain how dumb the person is, and generally try hard not to die from cardiac arrest due to massive BP increase.

    3. Probably the biggest. If "Look in your codex" and "You're new, so your WZ strategy isn't the best" are causing you this much frustration, maybe this whole Internet thing isn't for you. Don't worry, a combination of RIAA, the MPAA, and our government is trying it's hardest to make the whole thing just go away, so just ride it out.

As someone who plays this game mainly for the solo aspect, in an attempt to enjoy the game without having to deal with those hooligans on the internet called "other people," I can actually agree with this. I stay out of warzones as much as possible in this game, and I do a lot of soloing and playing with real life friends, and prefer single-player games over multi-player. Tbh, if it was KotOR 3, instead of TOR, I wouldn't even be playing an MMO, or posting on this forum for that matter. The internet's main purpose is for connecting with people. If you don't like people, well, the internet probably will annoy you at some point.

All that aside, SOPA and PIPA need to die and never come back. This isn't just about the internet, this gives big business the power to shut down anyone they please just by accusing them of something that they don't even have to be suspected of, let alone proven guilty.

  22. The OP is 100% right. While the general TOR community is not the worst on the internet, they are really bad, worse than I expected, and a lot worse than I had hoped. People who get irritated when people ask basic questions, as far as I am concerned, deserve to have their asses beat. We were all at one point unaware of one fact or another, and being a d-bag not only doesn't do anything helpful, it just serves to further fragment the community, all because people want to elevate themselves by bringing others down, and that is really what that kind of problematic behavior boils down to. I see that kind of thing happen all the time on Dromund Kaas general chat, and it really makes me sad just how much of the hate that is demonstrated, isn't RPed, but real.

When I see things like, "You are a peice of **** nubcake, you need to uninstall and kill yourself right after you tell me where you live so I can go **** your sister," as a response to a simple question of, "where do I go to get my AC?" There is a problem. No, that was not made up or exagerated, that was a real example, and similar respones are quite common. On my server, Dromund Kaas general chat is generally regarded as the "Neo-Nazi lovechild of Barrens Chat and Trade Chat," by sane, relaxed players.

  23. OH GOD NO! Not the League of Legends community!! ANYTHING but that! D:

Side note: I didn't realize you couldn't post all in capitals. My capslock is sad.

While the LoL community is bad, technically even worse than the ONWOD community, having actually dealt extensively with self-absorbed New World of Darkness players in real life, I am seriously questioning my choice in real life friends. I have come really close to commiting aggravated assault over the last couple of days because of that community.
