  1. All of the VG abilities can be used in melee range but only a few can be used outside 10m. Hence in PVE I would consider us a melee class whereas in PvP it would be more of a melee with sessions of hammer shot/ion pulse kiting according to the class you're facing. Like mentioned above you don't have anywhere near to the amount of abilities to gauge whether this class suits your liking or not. If you want an idea of the abilities and when you train them follow the below link. Vanguard ability list Also look at the trees for the lvl 20, 30 and 40 tree specific abilities and see if any catches your eye
  2. I think the stockstrike one is better. There are talents in the Shield tree that allows it to be used, theoretically, every 4.5 secs due to shield absorptions. Due to the frequent use of this ability I would put my points so stockstrike would hit harder.
  3. When they get close to you they place a movement debuff on you and self destruct in 3 secs. Keep strafing, use the sticky grenade on the closest one to buy some time and your knockback. I would focus more on keeping distance and survival rather than kills on that quest. This quest gave my levelling partner commando some trouble too. I nailed it on my SS VG first try, BARELY.
  4. I used to play a hunter in WoW and believe me it was one crazy roller coaster ride over 5 yrs. I've been following the progress of this game for a while as I have always been a star wars fan. Although I play a vanguard and not a combat medic I have past experience of getting the knife in the back. The only difference is I endured with it for a long time while you're saying the class is doomed within 3 months of release. It's just a game, a pass time or entertainment medium. sure it's hard to see the class you like a lot take a hit but later down the road of this mmo it'll be on top. Welcome to the world of the MMO. Patch 1.3, 1.4, 1.5.... inbound. Bring it BW.... Sith are going to keep seeing the stock of my gun for a while.
  5. If it's a choice between wanting to tank or heal then it's a easy choice. Tank go VG and heals go Commando. However if it's a choice of dps then I would ask where do you want to stand with respect to the target. Up close and personal, Tactics in VG. Or if you prefer range Gunnery in Commando or Assault specialist in either VG or Commando AC's. If it's still a toss up between AS for VG or Commando look through this ability list for both those AC's http://www.torhead.com/abilities/class/8/level/1-50 The mere fact that I love tanking and liked the harpoon and storm abilities made my choice easy.
  6. As a DPS (with heal abilities) it is sometimes encounter changing to toss out a heal. If you 2 were beating on a guy and the enemy was focused on him it might not have hurt to toss him a heal so that both of you are left standing at the end of that encounter rather than just you. You are never obligated to do it but it's just good teamwork. On the other hand if there were 2-3 guys beating on him, like said above, your heals would of bought him like 1/2 sec of life time and your ammo would of been better spent dps'ing. It really comes down to the situation. But irrespective of situation if someone comes to me with that attitude I would of responded with use a medpac or you were just healed to full back at the med center, what your problem is?
  7. Check the mission log count at the bottom left of the log. It shows you how many missions you have in your log. e.g. 19/25. You can have only 25 missions max so if you were like me and had all the flashpoint dailies, flashpoints, space mission dailies and space missions in your log too you may be in a hint of trouble. I discovered this yesterday myself as while questing with my friend I tried to accept a mission on Tattoine and I had the message "You are not eligible for this mission" come up on my screen. Asked my friend to share it and he got the notification that my log was full. Removed all my space missions and i was good to go. I can always pick those up later from my ship.
  8. I am a lvl30 VG and at the moment my keys are mapped as follows; WSAD- Forward, Backward, Strafe Left, Strafe Right Shift+Q(Left Action Bar 1)- Neural Jolt Shift+E(Left Action Bar 2)- Sonic Round Shift+R(Left Action Bar 3)- Relic 1 Shift+T(Left Action Bar 4)- Relic 2 Shift+F(Left Action Bar 5)- Unmapped Shift G(Left Action Bar 6)- Medpac Mouse has 4 extra buttons that I use; 2 buttons on the left, near the thumb) that I use only for switching between Action bar Page 1 and 2. The mousewheel can be tapped to the left and right. Mouse 4- Action bar Page 1 Mouse 5-Action Bar page 2 Mousewheel right tap- Riot Strike Mousewheel left tap- cryo grenade Most the other abilities I got mapped between 1 through 6 and Q,E,R,T,F and G between page 1 and 2. I got Tenacity mapped to F on Page 1 which is easy to get to as it is right next to my movement keys. I can easily access Riot Strike with a simple right flick of my Right Index finger which is great for interrupts as most my common abilities are on my central action bar which keeps my left hand busy. Speeders and Recharge and Reload I do not have mapped as they are mainly out of combat abilities.
