  1. I've been playing games since 1981... And I have every game console and computer created, pretty much. I collect retro computers. I have a nest of machines in this room from the humble Amiga through to Elite, PS3, Dreamcast, Cube and a couple of powerful PCs rigged up to big screens. Gaming is a hobby of mine and I really take no prisoners when it comes to entertainment. I loved WoW and actually still play, along with Rift and the odd flurry into STO. I also have Guildwars. With 10 at cap in both Rift and WoW I kinda have done most of whats to offer really. Those games are good. I bought Final Fantasy XIII-2 this week but have yet to fire it up. I won't play unless its fun.

And to this game... Level 17. The game is brilliant. Loving it. I don't generally get put off by what anyone says about the game. After all its my game. And the game is intoxicating I have to say. I have done little else this weekend. I can easily see me doing this for the next year. Classic.

PS I thought Skyrim was crap... Played all of one hour before the box hit the shelf.

I was only 4 in 1981, so i didnt have a controller in my hand yet, 5 more years i was gaming though. Ive hapilly owned an intellevision, C64,sega master system, amiga and a plethora of other gaming systems and have played thousands of games of every genre.

I still remember playing wizardry 7 ( and mapping out the whole game on paper ), it took me months and months, after school, sports etc....One of my best gaming memories that game...

Wow i raided pretty hardcore for 5 years till it turned carebear.

Tor ive played for 2 months , hit cap, and even though i LOVE star wars, The ip isnt enough to keep me here.

Tor is basically fisher price:my first raid, heck its fisher price: my first computer game...

The game is WAY too easy and forgiving. Might as well just mail us credits and gear its that easy.

I quit wow because it become " casual friendly " , why the hell would i migrate and play an even easier game...

PS. Although skyrim is a shameless console port, with a few mods ( and most importantly ) the difficulty turned up harder, its actually quit an awesome game..

Ahh the days of daggerfall, where random enemies spawned when you least expected them nor wanted them to.....

  2. What you and Darthjerro dont realize is that gaming in general has changed over the years. Like it or not the old hardcore grindy type of game is gone. Sure some producer might put one out but they have learned that people dont want to play a game for a year to get to max level.

If you can make x dollars putting out a hardcore game but you can make x+10 million putting out a more casual game what would you do? You put out the game which is going to make you the most money, that is business.

Do more hardcore/older gamers like it? Some do, some dont.

Does the corporation care? Only to a point. If the hardcore/older gamer bought the game then the corp has the money, so if that gamer leaves in a month or two it really isnt that big of a loss for them.

How dare I say it is ok to lose gamers, well the game was produced for Star Wars fans first and foremost. It was produced in a way to gain the most players thus the most money for the corp. It was made to be casual and most MMOs now days are made the same way.

They make the games to get and keep the majority of people at the expense of possibly losing more hardcore/old gamers.

    You speak the truth.

The thing is, by catering to the crowd BW did with tor, Its actually killing of gaming as a hobby..

Thats the saddest part. Like ive mentioned elsewhere on the boards, i actually go around and search for games that are coming out that challenge the player. I went out and brought a PS3 just so i could play dark souls ( it was woth every penny, best game ever ).

Easy / casual / quick / entitlment = boring REALLY quick. After a few months, your done..Whats the point of it? Why not make it a little harder / longer ( the game , that is ) as im sure casuals will buy it regardless and , you know, the lesser skilled might actually get better at gaming if the bar is raised???

All this ease of gameplay does is promote more bad players each day. soon , good gamers will actually be getting paid to come help run and organise any raids in the future .lol :)

  3. Why would I play those games if I purchased this game for £40. I quit this game today and made this post to show people why I have changed from protector to attacker. I wanted this game to be great and it simply wasn't. If they improve it fast I will come back. But other than that there is nothing special about this game other than leveling and that only lasts at most 8 times. (for each class).

So I will restart my subscription for either WoW or Rift today or tommorow. I hope bioware see this and understand why I and many others are leaving.

Im in the same boat as you and have played wow for 5 years, rift for 3 months.

I can safely say ill never go back to wow though, way to casual and carebear these days and rift was just wow dressed up nicer. Tor is as carebear easy as wow and just as shallow...

    Sigh....

I guess ppl like me are back onto the bandwagon, with our sights set on gw 2 for " the next best thing ". I hope Gw 2 doesnt fail, as im starting to get mmo ( a GOOD mmo ) withdrawl...

  4. Im sorry but your main concern is argueing with people on the internet but I have not met a single person who thinks leveling is proper speed when they try to enjoy the content.

And thats the kicker, the OP wants to do the content and not skip stuff. You flat out level to fast playing that way and there is no way around that.

The ONLY WAY you do not out level content is to skip 50%-70% of the side content.

And frankly if your skipping that much, your not enjoying it because your choosing to skip it all.

OP, your right and sadly there is no solution to this problem and its to late for Bioware to do anything about it.

We have to just hope and pray they learned there lesson and any future expansions will dramatically slow down the leveling speed/xp gain by a huge margin.

I havent decided what Im doing yet after my sub runs out, most likely ill reup monthly and see if I can stretch my interest to first expansion, so I can say to myself I gave EA (its not really Bioware anymore to be honest) every chance to fix the initial problems or at least learn from them.

But the minute someone (hardcore, softcore, flirtatious) finishs the expansion leveling in under 2 month period of time. I will cancel as no lessons will have been learned.

For TOR, the fastest the most hard hore of hard core should complete 1-50 (first character, no alts) is 2 months, 60 days (not played but real time period). 2 monthsl playing 16 hours a day. Everyone else should come in after that.

TOR has so much content that slowing the leveling down so they take their time and enjoy the content makes sence frankly.

If a casual tke 19 months to go from 1-50, so be it as there is content to keep the casual interested and complelled for the 10 months.

TOR mad esame mistake RIFT made, which is same mistake WOW made. They gave it all away like a overly friendly girl whose drank to much! WOW got away with iot through brilliant marketing and becoming a cultural fad. RIFT, its gone F2P far sooner then it ever dreamed it would. TOR is being given more chances because its Star Wars and because Bioware name attatched to it but that will wear out very fast if they dont start showing they hearing what being said by the vast majority.

TOR is doing the slow bleed right now and anyone who cant see that forthemselves when they log in is delussional. Logged in at 9 pm local time last night (Friday night). Just 3 weeks ago on fleet there was 165 people at week end prime time playing. Last night from 9pm to 12 midnight I saw no more then 88. Tython had 31, 2 weeks ago it was 100+. Taris had 27, Coruscant had 65. The numbers dont lie. I dont know if people are cancelling but they certainly not logging in (ON A WEEK END AT PRIME TIME).

The writing on the wall and EA needs to drop the ego and arrogence and start listening to those that have a clue.

As I said, its to late to fix levels 1-50, they cant now suddenly drop the XP in half or even reduce it by 3/4 of current state (even though thats a sloppy but needed fix) because they set a president already for others.

BUT they can let everyone know they recognize the screw up and will be doing it right from here on out.

PErsonally Im giving game more chances then any other MMORPG I ever played in last 21 years, but OP, your right. We level far to fast and your right, its detrimental to over all enjoyment of content in game.

EA needs to let us know they realize this, understand this, will be correcting this for future content release.

As I said, if I do manage to stick around till first expansion, the level curve for everything (Leveling, Crafting, PVP, everything) needs to be dramatically lowered and slowed down.

About only leveling speed they got right was a ratio percentage of legacy xp.

But what they got right there was the ratio. In its current form its also to fast as the main xp gain to fast. But if you reduced xp gain across the board by 70%, then the ration xp gain for Legacy xp would feel about right as well.

MMORPGs are not, and should not, be about speeding to max.

Single player games are the fast leveling curve

MMORPGs are suppose to be grander and bigger in every catagory and that means times between levels so you learn your character, your enviroment, your community should be larger as well.

MMORPG and speed leveling shouldnt be possible, PERIOD.

Right now we in the selfish gaming phase of memememememe and games have suffered quality wise for it.

EA has literally only scratched the surface of what TOR could be and should be.

I hope they get it right but to be honest, so far nothing they have said reflects that they have gotten the message. I desperately want it to be different, I want to play this game for 4-5-6 years. But as of right now this appears to be a 3 month and done game at best, for the slowest of slow casuals. As thats how its designed to play out.

    And thats a true shame.

Wow, this is spot on. I could never write something so grand if i tried. This written right here is the dead set truth. Every last word of it.....

BW and all future mmo developers need to read this and understand we DONT WANT a quick and easy game......

IMO i honestly think the damage is done here and cannot be repaired. You cannot have this super easy, casual game going on then one day turn around and say, right folks, we are going to make questing longer and hardr, FP and operations will now be very skill based, no more tank and spank, every person in that raid has to be switched on , crafting will become more complex etc etc.

  5. Considering how much effort and time they put into all the questing, and now they are ruining it themselves by making us level too fast and forcing us to miss and abandon too many quests and quest lines just because we are way above the level...

Hope that made sense. Let me explain anyway.

The thing I hate most are the bonus quests. They pop up every time and sometimes it's even impossible not to do them (too many mobs between point A and point B, which you can't just run through), so they give you too much experience, you level too fast, and you are forced to abandon the cool quests in Nar Shaddaa for example, because the class quest is calling you to another planet, and it's kinda pointless to stay and do gray quests.

So here's what I think - there should be no bonus quests at all, or at least very few on only certain special places, and the experience from the normal quests should be reduced too. If anyone is that eager to power level I am sure he will find ways (PVP, flashpoints and space combats) but why do you have to ruin the questing experience for everyone else?

Its one reason why im saying goodbye.

Im 34 years old, have been gaming for over 25 of them, i think this EASE of gameplay is an insult to any real older gamers around the globe...

I did flashpoints, crafting, space combat , pvp, every quest and ended up on hoth at lvl 46, 8or 9 lvls over what i should of been, every quest was grey, my class quest went grey 4 lvls ago. What a joke...Now i know some simpletons here will tell me to drop quests and move on, But why the hell should i? Its a brand new game, i want to see ALL questing content , not to mention im a completionist ( every datacron and quest on every planet as i do them )..

Couple this with crafting being a waste of time and basically spam aoe mechanics in all pve content, and we have a very shallow game designed for kindergarden kids....Insulting i tell you. I was so excited for star wars, i love star wars, but i honestly think bw butchered it as a mmo. Should of stuck to Kotor 3 ( with a difficulty slider ) as i know how they like to release their fisher price dificulty settings for games these days..

Wanna hear the sad truth. The gamers are already gone mate....whats left is star wars fans , casuals, the guys that treat mmo's like a chatroom and people new to mmos....

  6. It doesn't matter if the game has investors or not. What matters is that it makes more money than it cost to make.

Are you willing to pay 30 $ or 50 $ a month for an MMO? Maybe then an MMO to the "veterans" that need hardcore difficulty and don't want the game dragged down for "carebears" can be made.

See , i played wow from the start and left went it started catering to ...lets say the lesser skilled...

Im a HUGE SW fan, but im not going to play a game ( no matter how much i love the ip ) thats even easier then the one i left behind, and especially with the same gameplay mechanics..If Tor was more challenging, i would definatly overlook the wow " concepts " on most things, but its not, its heaps easier then wow....

GW2 and even tera look fresh, heres hoping they are not going to be as simplistic as tor and wow.

We need a new vanilla / BC wow ( NOT wrath nor cata ). Heres hoping for these new titles to prevail...

  7. Star Wars: The Old Republic will be the game of the new generation. Slowly but surely it will crawl, walk, run, sprint..and just keep on going and chuggin along. BioWare will not disappoint. This is their baby and they are proud of it. They are trying so hard to please mainly everyone for the majority of the game.

This game will continue to grow and get better as time goes on. More planets will get added, more gear, more raids, more planets, more weapons, more major content, more story. This game will be the next mmo giant and the game to beat in the coming years. You just watch!

Listen guys...they are fixing lots of bugs, they are coming out with content, they will keep adding more stuff we want. This is their plan, they launched with the stuff they had and just keep on adding the stuff players want little by little to keep people coming back for more because they will keep releasing content update patches every month or close to that. I believe BioWare keeps the community at heart when releasing this content and just know they can't do everything right now.

The things that you guys want, whether it be sitting in chairs, swimming, day/night cycle, weather, they WILL come in time :) The heroengine is getting updates constantly and performance issues ARE being worked on! This is one of the smoothest mmos ever and the running looks VERY good. You can't argue that. The environments and running feels natural.

Great game BioWare keep it up :)

I wish this was kotor 3, that way i could actually turn the difficulty right up.

Tor is way to easy, gear rains from heaven, credits are useless and crafting is complete crap.

Im a " semi hardcore " but very serious gamer that enjoys challenge. My fun in video games IS the challenge. I get joy when we overcome certain difficult odds and prevail after many times trying..

Tor lost me and many, many others looking for challengingand indepth gameplay. A 10 year old could get to max lvl and complete raids, and thats a total fail design..

Games in the past where designed for gamers that actually cared about games. In mario, if you where ****, you didnt get far...Tor is all about giving EVERYONE EVERYTHING FOR LITTLE TO NO EFFORT, and when everyone has everything, nothing is special .....

This is the formula and game design they went for, and it worked for ppl new to gaming, but like i said, real gamers are long gone or ( in my and many others persons cases ) will be when their game time runs out....

Sure, the game will have plenty of people playing it, but a large percentage will be newcomers or star wars fans that dont care for challenging nor engrossing gameplay, they are probably just happy sitting on the fleets station , chatting inguild.....

  8. Now were really going to see if this game can compete with WoW.

Firstly, wow is total crap, has been since wrath.

Second, as much as i wanted to like SW, its way to casually easy, even more so then wow, its also crap, real gamers are leaving in droves.

Third, any oceanic that knows anything about gaming had tor in december last year.

Fourth, im over tor already, it has no challenge and takes no skill, myself and many other fellow oceanics have already left , will releasing it in oz with local servers actually be beneficial??

  9. I've been gaming for 20 years, and I think people like you are just full of it. You're not "hardcore" at anything. Sitting on your butt and doing nothing but playing a game meant for entertainment is not hardcore, no matter how much you want it to be. If a game isn't entertaining for you, then don't play it, go play something else. launching words like 'casual" as if it's an insult just shows how ignorant a person is. At the end of the day, everyone is just playing to have fun, not all games will fit everyone's ideal, and as I said, the best way to fix that is to find another game. You like dark souls apparently, go play that some more.

your entertainment obviously stems from all the " achievements " wow has to offer like go pick 20 flowers in each zone over the whole map that takes days to months and get social points blah blah...

THAT is not my idea of fun nor entertainment. Im competitive by nature in every aspect of my life, including gaming.Simply put, im here to play better then you, to kill you over and over with skills ive picked up over 25 years of gaming. To be the best i can in any given game is my idea of fun and challenge and ENTERTAINMENT...

If you make games easy, what challenge is there for me to beat you? Whats the point of real gamers playing that game then?

I mustnt be alone on this line of thought. Look at all the threads about guilds disbanding, raiding is too casual, everything is easy, people have nothing to do...the list goes on ...

Guess what. The ppl saying these things are the people with the same mentality as mine. The real gamers that raid or pvp, that play competitively, that play to win...they are all leaving in droves.....

Whats left is the masses that might do a few dailies here and there, level 13 alts, run 1 fp a week or generally just sit in guild and chat...The true casual....Well, this game is , after all, tailored at them....

Such a shame really, because star wars is my number 1 favourite sci fi for over 20 years now..

  10. Huh, because a game for hardcore gamers would be a financial disaster...perhaps?

Yea, so make games simplistic for kids then, sure , why not....

Dark souls isnt a financial disaster is it. Scored 95 / 100 ...ps3 game of the year,....

Hmm , how could a hardcore game like that get such a good review????

Maybe because its only one of a kind , perhaps? Why not make more of these " harder" games , perhaps, it seems to be what certain people like....

  11. Have you tried playing with UI turned off? It makes the game more immersed and a lot for cinematic in feel. CTRL + Z will hide the UI, give it a try:)

Why should we have to go do stupid stuff like wear no armor or turn **** off to get a challenging experience out of this game.

Im not turning anything off, im not removing any gear, the game is easy. Easier then wow i could even say, and thats BAD...

Dark souls doesnt make me remove any gear nor make me play blindfolded yet that games difficulty is perfect.

Stop defending all these sad "casualised" games coming out these days because in the long run all it is going to do is ruin gaming for the people that actually play games for challenges ( ie hobby ).

Wow was the best game ever ( till wrath sucked the life from it ), rift was a wow " casualised "clone, and tor is just straight and pure a casuals game, where you dont need to think nor know how to play well....

I dont know about you guys, bit IM SICK to death of these easy peasy ,piss weak games ( mmo's ) poping up over the last 5 years.

Its almost as if the game developers gave us old school hardcore gamers the middle finger and told us to go jump of a cliff.....

If gaming keeps going this way, ill be a 34 year old with a full time job ,looking for a new hobby. But its hard to teach a old dog new tricks...

WHY NOT just make some games for us huh? Harder Games us old schoolers grew up with! They taught us how to play and get good at gaming, and we took on the challenge and succeeded........

This is what this generation of tweebs is missing.....PATIENCE......Its all me me me , easy, easy, easy, now, now ,now....and its going to ruin gaming for good....

  12. I'm not even going to bother responding to most of this.

I will only say that GW was a waste of time.

    GW2 won't be much different.

To the rest of your point, you should really look at what Anet is trying to accomplish. They are not trying to appeal to MMO players. They are trying to appeal to GW players.

NO. Sounds to me they are trying to appeal to ...GAMERS..GAsp..how dare they!!!!

Tor and wow cater to ...the " novice " players, hopefully gw2 wil lactually cater to the REAL gaming crowd out there.

We tried with tor, its even easier then wow and i quit wow for becoming to faceroll...GIVE US DAMN CHALLENGE BACK. Keep your gear, make fights rely on skill...o wait, i think gw2 does that doesnt it...............:)

  13. Oh I hope for that too.

Had the same high expectations from TOR and I got disappointed a lot. So GW2 is the next big good thing to be excited about.

exactly this. I was so hyped and told everyone how good SW is going to be ( because im a huge SW fan ) and it plainly just isnt good , at all, im heartbroken....

shoulda made a kotor 3 single player.....

  14. Baldurs gate and nwn where my all time favs amongst the wizardry series.

I love BW, so im truelly stunned and without words as to what went wrong here with this mmo.

Its exactly how you say, easy and boring. Havnt they learned that nothing easy is ever fun!!!

Shame, cause star wars rocks. Sadly , this mmo doesnt......

  15. Can someone define 'epic' for me?

The JK storyline is pretty damn epic if you ask me. Heck Im only level 41 and ive already gone up against <<spolier>> I mean that entire section of the story line was bleedin epic, even if <<spolier>> does looke a bit like mumra from thundercats....

    Hmm epic...

Wows Burning Crusade expansion was epic, all the rest that followed was pure crapola.

O but bads and pugs couldnt raid boo hoo hoo. YES, the dedicated ones could and did and THAT is what made it epic. NO ENTITLMENT, NO GEAR RAINING FROM HEAVENS, NO EASY CONTENT...

    Epic, IMHO ofcoarse....

  16. Agree 100% plus more. i was so pumed for tor, but havnt logged in for about 2 weeks now.

    Here is why tor fails....

The last thing we need is more time sinks imo

    No thanks.

    No thanks.

It already takes long enough to hit level 50. The game already very easy. Leveling is leveling - it doesn't need to be a challenge. Endgame and beyond is challenge enough. I can keep going but I think this is sufficient reasoning.

umm endgame is NOT challenging, sorry..And why should ONLY endgame be challenging? Im playing dark souls atm and EVERY MOB is a challenge ( and thats the way it should be ).

NO stop speeding through quests then
    ..

This is the crowd BW went for and tried to capture, and they sure did. The real gamers got to max, then realised this was actually just another wow in space ( but WAY easier ) and ran away...

These people here will eventually figure out easy = boring = looking for a new game..simple as that...

SIGH, this was only of the FIRST page....I give up man. Im done with easy games...heres looking forward to GW2..

  17. What % will have quit by then? Lol. Im one.

Its just another game. F2P it isnt. F2P it should be.

I stupidly brought another months worth, played for 1 day, havnt logged on since then.

I am totally insulted BW think us nothing more then windowlickers that have no gaming experience up our sleeves, they must do...Because this game is easier then casually possible.

Lack of challenge always leaves a bad taste in my mouth after a few months.....

  18. considering this isn't a gear centric game i'm not shocked or concerned by how loot and items are handed out.

wow is overly based on gear which is just as bad.

gear shouldn't be hard to get and shouldn't require you to be the best in the world.

    IT'S A GAME!!!!!!

sure gear plays a role in this game as it does in many others but it is not the sole focus of the game either, other games do centre character progression around gear and well ye it's not that much fun after a while.

when i played wow i was a mage/paladin/deathknight all were geared in heroic t12 gear..they were my only 85's as i just couldn't stomach leveling another, gear was not hard to come by neither were the raids difficult but i was bored stiff of gear being the only method of character progression, things like path of the titans were suppose to augment that but were dropped in favor of yet more gear.... i treated gearing in wow with utter disdain i didn't care if my gear was better than someone elses all i cared about was having a laugh with my guildies and killing bosses in a timely manner before nerfs came.

swtor doesn't follow that path of which i am eternally gratefull, gearing is a means to an end nothing more it shouldn't signify anything or lead to e-peen battles when trying to form groups.

Which is why GW2 is going to be great, gear WONT be handed to you every turn. Gear means very little, its player skill.

O the tears in that game will be tasty, and the best thing is, i will actually have real life mates to play with me to form groups unlike tor....Yay, people i can rely on again to get stuff done...

And dark souls is just a game too. Guess what, gear in that game is hard to get, hell that game is hard, yet i think its the best game thats come out for the last few years...

  19. Most of the people are 50. I play 4 characters and none of them are 50.

Like I said, seems like you have issue with getting gear up too fast and it will lead you to find the game boring. So, delete loot and your problem solved.

As for others, why don't you let me worry about my problem ?

Congrats mate, your the type of player BW aimed at with this game.

The casual that plays because its a time filler...good on ya.

You do realise its not going to be very fun for you when you eventually hit cap and find all the more dedicated gamers have moved on already because loot rains from heaven whilst being extremely easy to get? How are you going to pug raids then? with more ba....ooops ,soz , i mean with more casuals like yourself?

I brought an extra month of gametime for some reason, and havnt logged in for a week.

Did you also know i was looking forward to this game for 2 years and that star wars is my all time favourite sci fi ever...

I knew it was going to be casual, but this content is downright faceroll and quite frankly insulting beyond a joke......( yes bw , i know how to keybind and mouse turn, did you guys think we came from farmville or something? )

Im not complaining though, i got my moneys worth out of the leveling experience in the star wars universe, it was fun ( but way to easy, never changed my orange gear really , so no need to look forward to new gear thru out the whole leveling process )..But im not going to roll an alt just yet, way, way too soon, i was hoping my main would tide me over for months atleast...

  20. What funny is reading the posts like this and seeing how desperate people are to form a comeback or argument.

    Go team Emo.

Whats funny is how some of us more serious gamers that actually love the star wars universe actually have no need nor desire to log in and play anymore.

Lvl 45 jug, parked at hoth, i think im done. Why. So far EVERYTHING has been way too easy, loot rains from heaven. If i wanted HAnd holding and entitlement , id go back to that other game i left nearly a year ago FOR EXACTLY THE SAME REASON....

Its sad, people like myself and the op that crave a challenge have no where to go...

Dont even tell me heroic operations btw, i did heroic raiding in wow, i dont care about the next tier of " SUPPOSED HARDNESS ". I can tell just by leveling , ALL content is way too easy...

  21. Look out mate, i posted the exact same thing ( with paragraphs though :) a while ago and got an infraction......

Bw doesnt like you telling them that this game is waaay to casual even for casuals that are very casually casual..

God im starting to hate that word. In every paragraph with the word mmo, i bet theres the word casual plastered somewhere 5 times between the lines....
