  1. I honestly haven't stopped once to think about the Financial State of the game. I play it, I derp with my guild, I pay them my $15 a month, I'll spend my monthly cartel coin stipend, and that's pretty much where my relationship with the game ends.

Totally agreed, though I don't have a guild to "derp" with, so I enjoy my solo time with the game. For me, it does what it is supposed to do: entertain me.

Is it perfect? Is it the way I'd do it? No. But that's not what it should be. It should be an entertaining, fun place many different people can go to to enjoy whatever aspects they look for in a game. I enjoy it and look forward to playing it when I'm at work or stuck doing something other than playing. I think that it is unwise to become overly concerned with the elements about a game (or business, or anything in life) that we can't control or don't have all of the facts about.

I pay a monthly fee (happily), I will spend my stipend of Cartel Coins, and I will play the game. I will do so until such time that I no longer have fun doing so. That's all I ask. If the game (any game) goes away for whatever reason, then I will no longer play it. I'll find another game to play, be it another MMO or a table top game, or just take a break from games for a while. But, until such time, I'll keep on doing my thing.

tl;dr: Don't worry about what you can't control, know, or understand. If you're having fun, then play. If you're not, then don't. Simple, really.

I hope you continue to play and enjoy the game. "You" meaning everyone, not anyone in particular.

May the Force be with you,

  2. I'm of the opinion that it's annoying to lose the name of a character at all. The entire purpose of a "Role Playing" game is to take on the persona of a character within the fantasy world. Abrupt forced name changes can really mess with this for some of us. I know that many players don't really care. But, for me (and others), the name I choose dictates the actions that character takes. I might make two Jedi characters. NAME1 might be based on my D&D paladin who always does the right thing, is polite, and respects others. NAME2 would be based on an evil NPC from when I was DMing a D&D game and would be evil. I create each character to resemble their inspiration, taking time to get their look just right. The name and the character become one to me; I identify with them just as one would identify with a character in a movie or TV show. Then, BAM, forced name change. I can still play, yes, but it kills the whole idea around the character that I spent a lot of time and effort forging into my idea of how that character would be based on who they are; their name.

Imagine, "Due to a programming change, the character formerly known as Indiana Jones will now be known as 1ndiannah Jo-nes."

Yeah, it's lame, but it's an unfortunate reality in games like this until they stop using the character's name as its sole identifier for mail, chat, etc.

I have 4 pending name changes and have already changed 2. :(

  3. Try whispering them first. Most people are put off by an invite that has no message attached to it and may not realize it's coming from the person in the same area as them (I've gotten invites from planets away for no reason at all).

This pretty much sums it up for me. Say hello. Actually invite me. I hate when I just get a random pop up. I don't even read them, honestly.

Try this, "Hey, are you working on [quest name]?" And when they respond, try, "Me too. Want to work on it together?".

That's all it would take in most cases. I'd be more likely to team up longer if there is some conversation once we're grouped too. Nothing crazy, just a reason to be in a group. I can finish quests solo all day long. But, I can't do them AND get a good banter going while playing by myself. Well, I can, but then people call me crazy. :p

  4. Well, this is an interesting thread! I'm 41, but have never really thought about any sort of an age difference with other players. Though, poor grammar (doesn't need to be perfect, but at least try, people) and immature chat and/or actions annoy me. I don't care how old a person is, just play respectfully and to the best of your ability. Maybe I'll teach you something about the game or maybe I'll learn from you. That's the best part of playing an MMO to me.

As for being a professional, I don't know if being a 911 call taker (Dispatch Assistant) makes me a professional, but it's an interesting job. I'm surprised at how many police officers play these games, actually. I guess I just never thought about it, maybe?

At any rate, Star Wars having a wide range of ages doesn't surprise me because it came out in 1977; for us 40ish year-olds, it shaped much of our imagination when we were growing up. So, to be able to sit down and play a freakin' Jedi is a dream come true! Just glad some of you whippershnappers are along for the ride.

  5. Just a quick update. Gamer Seeking Gamer is live and available to use! The database is small right now, so you won't get a lot of matches when you search, but the more people that join, the more matches we'll start to get! I would appreciate the help of the SWTOR community in being a building block to what I hope will become the next great thing for gamers of all types. The info is in my signature and I invite you to stop by and check it out. If you like what you see, sign up and help build the user base so people can start getting matches. It's a great place for guilds to recruit, too!

So, please, give it a look. May the Force be with you. Any questions, ask here or send me a private message. Feedback is very welcomed!

    Thank you!

And once again, thank you, MODS for keeping this thread open. I appreciate it.

  6. From what I understand, Lucas wonders the same thing. He never thought that Boba Fett was much of a character [citation needed, I know].

However, you have to realize that we had never seen anything like him before. This is before Iron Man, before Power Rangers (for kids, mind you), before all of the other "******" armored and helmeted warriors out there. For me, it was he was mysterious and dangerous. He followed and caught Han, nudged Luke in the right direction (he missed on purpose and was helping get Luke to Vader if you ask me). He didn't panic and was a cool customer. Plus, that armor was out of this world!

True, he "died" in a lame way, but that's because Lucas didn't understand why he was as popular as his big villain (Vader). Which is unfortunate, because he deserved to be treated better, in my opinion.

I get why Boba is popular. What I don't get is why people like Deadpool. Now, he's a joke. :p

  7. Alex,

Check my sig for information that might help you if you don't find a guild immediately through this post. It sounds like you're exactly who I want to help with the site.

If I knew of any decent guilds, I'd suggest one. Unfortunately, I'm more of a lone wolf type, so I don't have any recommendations. Good luck in your hunt, though.

  8. Hey, guys and gals, sorry if I’m not supposed to post this in here, but I thought I’d share a FREE website I had designed to help people that play SWTOR, and other games, find each other in order to play together. Games include online games of all types, table top RPGs, collectable card games, board games, and other types of multi-player games. It will be completely searchable so you can find the exact player type or guild type that you’re looking for. Right now, it is available for early sign up so you can reserve your membership name (Gamer Name) and gain early access in order to set up all or some of the 4 profiles that will be available to you. For more information and to sign up, please check out the site! http://www.gamerseekinggamer.com or on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/gamerseekinggamer

MODS: This is a legit, free site that players of SWTOR can use to recruit guild members, find a guild to play with, or simply find other players with similar play styles to play your game together. It is not a dating site. I would greatly appreciate it if you don’t delete this post. If you have questions, please PM me and I will follow up accordingly.

    Thank you everyone!

  9. Before I explain why understand that I love the concept of this game and had high hopes, I commited myself to believing in bioware, bought the collectors edition and played from early start.

I am a casual gamer and a roleplayer, yes I group but I also enjoy soloing.

Now my first character is a sith inquisitor sorcerer path, mainly dps reached 50 before 1.2, I am not an equipment whore as long as I have good enough to survive then I am happy.

When 1.2 came out my equipment was lacking and me being dps + Talos to heal me just was not cutting it, needed someone to take agro, so I kit out Xalek used the 1.2 million I had gathered (none exploit) through the entire game, then I find out he is broken even with good gear.

So I was in the situation of being pretty much dead in the water, dying 2-3 times in daily missions was meaning that I was spending as much on repairs as I was gaining in credits. all the time slowly trying to gain some money to re-equip Khem as my tank.

And people kept telling me how easy it is to make money in tor..they showed me how using words like farming.

    Examples

A)Log off at a chest spawn and set your clock relog during the day while doing other things and farm the chest

B)Maps of slicing and archeology nodes they were so proud of themselves telling me how they could run the map in 2 hours and be 1 million better off.

The list went on even youtube guides.

And I realised this game is nolonger for me, repeatable spawns of chests, resource nodes, farming and grinding is this why bioware has to keep raising prices ??

How does any of that fit in with Star wars lore, roleplaying or having fun?

This is my choice and my fault they are so proud of themselves they must be winning at Swtor and I am not.

So I am putting away my character, will help my wife to finish her storyline quest (still love the story) and when it comes down to it, I am the kind of person who will spend 20 mins extra in a mission exploring, taking screen shots and marveling at the places.

Then end my subscription wife is feeling the same sadly, it just seems this game is becomes a grind and while some may love that, repeatable daily and this idea of farming makes my love of the game die.

BTW I am not new to mmos but I was hoping for better.

What you're talking about isn't the game itself, my friend. It's the way other people are choosing to play it. You don't have to do it that way. You could just play the game the way you enjoy it. Sure, you might need to step back and do something to earn you some credits before taking on some more challenging areas, but don't let the "farming" suggestions get to you. Play your game, not theirs.

  10. An ingame bulletin board on main fleet for Guild advertisiing would be cool.

GM's can post guild description and a website link and possibly contact toon names for /pst.

This would/could stop the general spamming of Guild recruitment and would target the people who are actually looking for a guild etc.

Guilds would also be posting recruitment 24/7 which covers the times officers are not logged on.

An 'Apply' button on the board would be good to send an email (ingame) to the GM for review.

I know it isn't "in game", but check my sig for something that might be useful to you.

As for what I'd like to see in the future:

    1. Character last names that aren't tied to the Legacy function.

    2. A "banker" droid character (separate from normal characters) that has no combat value and can't leave the faction's main city, but can access mail, has storage containers, and can use the Galactic Trade Network. This way, I can send all of my stuff to it for posting auctions (and the extra storage would be nice, too).

    3. The option to play the crafting missions as a minigame, possibly earning abilities and/or items specific to the companion character (possibly including getting them better at specific tasks).

    4. A companion management interface when in my ship so I can easily equip and maintain my companions.

    5. A notification on the log in screen next to any character indicating if they have new mail waiting for them.

    6. Jawa as a playable race for Jedi (pipe dream, I know).

    7. Some non-human looking races to play, including droids (maybe as an unlockable "race" or 1 per server per account limit).

    8. Hood up/down option (edit: stolen from the post above me, lol)

    9. More open world (including in space) exploration options.

That's it for now. Make it so... wait... wrong universe... haha!

  11. need cross faction chat via togle on/off

so far im not playing any sith chars and im not doing it till they add cross faction chat

simply cuz nobody from my guild / friends can call me to do a FP-Ops-Heroics while i play sith char

I agree that we should have a consensual, optional channel for cross faction chat or at least let us friend opposite faction characters and receive private messages from them in game.

For now, though, couldn't your friends/guild mates just create an alt on the Empire side and use it to whisper you if they want you to join their group activity? Just a thought.

  12. I'd love to have a full view of my characters! /signed

As a side note, I'd love to see a mail icon somewhere on the character select screen that will show if a character has new mail so I don't have to log all the way in to check for mail.

  13. Are you sure it works across servers? :p

Could have sworn that to send mail disregarding faction, the characters had to be part of the same legacy.

My apologies... I meant the characters on each respective server could help each other regardless of faction. So, my "lightside" server characters can trade items among each other on one server and my darkside characters could help each other on my other server. I didn't mean cross server. Just faction. Sorry for the confusion. Not trying to start rumors, I promise. LOL
