  1. Honestly if you want a gaming build that will last a bit longer I'd go with an Ivy Bridge i5 3570k can be found at Microcenter for $170, and is twice as powerful per core than the FX 4100, so it will last you through more generations of games, and is basically the top of the line gaming processor. Add to this that with an aftermarket heatsink you can overclock it if you wish, but it really isn't necessary as it will blow through any game at stock speeds. Also you should look into an SSD for your OS/main games you are playing in this case TOR, you can find a 128GB model for around $100 now for SATA III drives, so you can fit OS +TOR and a few other games your playing and swap out the games that are on the SSD if you move onto a new one. Those are the only suggestions I have, you could also look into getting a bit more powerful GPU though the 7770 is perfectly adequate, you can find say a 6870 that though last gen is better than the 7770 for around $50 more in some cases less than that. Besides that just make sure you get a quality PSU, Antec makes some good 550-650 Watt PSU's taht are manufactured by Delta which is a good company, XFX also has some quality budget type PSU's. In terms of the Motherboard I'd look into a Gigabyte/Asus/Asrock Z77 board to pair with the 3570k, the rig will cost a bit more, but you will be happy with the performance in the long run.

Not to hate on AMD, but the FX series couldn't compete with last gen Sandy Bridge processors, and the Ivy Bridge simply surpasses it even more. Ivy Bridge 3570k or SandyBridge 2500k i5 processors are far superior for gaming and will give you a more pleasurable gaming experience over the next generation of games as they simply have a far superior per core processing power efficiency of 2 x that of the FX line of processors.

I would suggest looking into Microcenter for the processor at least, and they often run processor+mobo combos for Intel processors, so you will save money opposed to most other places. For the RAM/Case/other components I would shop around to find the best deal, overall you will build a much better rig for less money by building it yourself.

3570k is way overkill for this game, and in many respects is worse for gaming than the 2500k (2500k is a much better overclocker, allowing higher speeds). The rig doesn't need to be top of the line to play this game, what the op originally linked is totally fine, I agree though a 6850 would perform better along with a i3-2120/i5-2500k

  2. Run it..? Or run it well? I have an i5-2500k/6850oc'ed and can run it on ultra with shadows turned down. However I only get 20-30 fps on fleet (at full capacity) but in average areas i usually run high 40s to low 60s... if you have the budget i would recommend a 6850 configuration. with an intel precessor... i3-2120 was my original choice (deal at Microcenter allowed me to boost up my CPU). This does not mean you should skimp on other parts though...

Places where you can save money...

Case, Thermaltake v3 Black Edition is an AMAZING case for cheap

Ram, any 4gbX2 will be sufficient really, timings arent a big deal for this game

    CPU/Mobo w/ a microcenter close

a 6850 only costs ~120-140$ newegg usually has the best prices (it's worth it)

Really though, build what makes you happy, and what is in your budget.

  3. Ladies and Gents. This post will not put the devs on a pedestal, it will not tear them down. Frankly, I'm disappointed in the whole system.

I understand the frustration in some of us, especially the long time 50s. We want new content, we want it quickly, and frankly some are disappointed. The Community Team is in a tight spot right now, they relay what they are told, when they are told to. What can they really relay when they aren't being told anything? Please. One person tell me that.

The response by the individuals on the forums, by the paying subscribers, is horrendous. I enjoy this game. We ALL enjoy this game to some extent. Yes, the devs have let us down, that is NOT the fault of the Community Team. The Community Team is here to appease US. Treating them like it is their fault our content is not arriving will get us nowhere. Sadly it has come to the point that the fans have no faith in the dev team, some have no faith in EA, most are struggling with both. But blaming the Community Team, calling them spineless, destroying their confidence, continuously beating them to a pulp with rude comments and derogatory remarks... DOES NOTHING but make the game as a whole worse off.

I know we are all disappointed that the dev team constantly tells us "monthly content updates, bug fixes, rebalancing" and it fails to happen. We SHOULD NOT be taking it out on the Community Team... The first few pages of this thread disgust me, I find the sheer audacity of people to be baffling. How many of you really think that attacking the Community Team is going to get you anything? Yes, they can go and say to the dev team "yeah... fans are super pissed..." But it hasn't worked in the past, and I highly doubt that will change at the drop of a hat. If you are discontent with the game by all means, make yourself heard... But is it asking to much for dignity to be upheld? Complete lack of respect for a person is what i just saw, how can any of you even call yourself human after a display like that? You took a positive, optimistic post by the Community Team and tore it to shreds because it wasn't "exactly" the response you were looking for. The response of the team was professional, even for the extreme remarks thrown around, I for one stand up for the team... because The Community Team are the heroes the community needs, but not the ones we deserve right now. So we flame them. Because they can take it. Because they aren't heroes. They are silent guardians, watchful protectors. Jedi Knights.

  4. Radeons will work with Intels, nvidias will work with AMD's. There's no limits on mixing and matching GPU's and CPU's, although a slow CPU will bottle neck a fast GPU.

There's really not any better nvidias in the 100-150 dollar range. Most of the competition is in the very high end, 200+ range for GPU's. Your next best bet is the Radeon 6790 for 125, or the 5830 for 110.

whats the 5830? i havent heard it considered before?

EDIT: either way i opted to go down to the 6790, not because its a better card but because its a little cheaper, i may still go back up to the 550Ti though

EDIT 2: oh and this is all techniquely approx 420$ (have to add windows 7)

  5. Did you also change motherboards to a motherboard that supports an 1155 socket?

If you want to go with a nvidia, I'd recommend a 550 Ti GTX for around 130, or a GTX 460 for around 150. There are comparable Radeons in that price range and other people have had much better success with Radeons then I have. Going nvidia is totally a personal preference of mine due to bad experiences with Radeon, and shouldn't unduly influence you.

yes changed mobos as well but i chose a 550 ti, is there any other gfx card mayb for less that would perform as well if not better? and will a radeon work with an intel build?

  6. It's an alright PC, it's not terrible for the price, especially since you need to buy a case.

You could probably pick a Raddeon 4890, or 5830 for the same price, and both do better in benchmarks.

Alternatively, you could up your GPU price by 15 bucks and go for a 6790. I can't comment too much on Radeons myself. I owned a 5770 and it gave me a bit of trouble. I've since upgraded to a Nvidia 570GTX (the 3rd nvidia card I've owned) and love it. Having had trouble with 2 Radeon cards and none of my 3 nvidia cards, I have a hard time recommending them to anyone.

Long term, your upgrade is a bit of a dead end. AMD won't carry the AM3+ slot once they get off their duffs and release smaller architecture (32nm, or 25nm if they decide to skip ahead), the best upgrade you can get, the 1100T, is already becoming out of date, and from what I understand AMD is basically abandoning the home CPU market to Intel anyway and refocusing on server CPU architecture.

It will be a bit more expensive, but if you plan to upgrade with in a year or so, going for a SandyBridge Intel will behoove you. You'll literally be looking for just a new CPU (a 200-300 dollar upgrade) rather than a CPU and motherboard (a 350-500 dollar upgrade).

so i switched to the i3-2100 but couldnt find the 1100T motherboard you speak of, it did bring the price down so im gonna move to an nvidia card, what would you recommend to keep it under 550$ (approx 140 to spend on gpu)

  7. Depends on your budget.

If you have a virtually unlimited budget, I'd recommend a high end i7, like the 3930K (600 bucks) or the 2700K (360 bucks or so, and buy one for me too, please!).

Alternatively, if you don't have a lot of money to spend now, but would like to upgrade in the future, I'd look into a SandyBridge i3 (i3's range from 110 to 150 and would use the same socket as the i7 2700K so you could upgrade in the future) or i5 (i5's run the gambit from 190 to 220 on NewEgg now, and use the LGA1155 slot which allows an upgrade tot he 2700K i7 in the future).

Finally, if your strapped for cash and don't see yourself upgrading again the future, an 1100T is the best AMD you can purchase. It's not at all in the same ball park as Intel's SandyBridge and it will severly limit your ability to upgrade (including graphics cards) in the future, but you can get them far cheaper than a SandyBridge i5.

Im trying to keep it under or around 500, what about the new build i edited the previous post with?

EDIT: ive heard the extreme3 series is actually pretty good...?

  8. Good for the price. You'd notice a nice performance boost with another 4GB of RAM.

You'd notice a HUGE performance boost by upgrading your CPU. Your GPU is probably pushing your CPU to the max, if the CPU can even keep up with it.

what would you recommend for a cpu?

    EDIT: new build

    4gb gskill ram 2 sticks 1333MHz

    amd fx-4100

    raidmax hybrid 630W psu

    Sapphire 6770

    ASRock 970 EXTREME3 AM3+

Rosewill Challenger mid-tower case w/ three fans included

HDD and dvd drive not included, i can salvage them from an old computer until HDDs come down in price

will end up at 503$ (520$ with dvd drive) after rebates

  9. i can get same rig for 600$.

Thats a **** rig u got there, that makes u laggy is your graphics card, its ****** and with that powersupply u cant even upgrade to better gfx card as u req 500 watt or more.

And DELL are expensive. and why pay for 3 years warrenty? its useless in 1 year it has been down to half the price.

i could build a better rig for ~500... the point is the OP got ripped off big time and should return the damn computer haha, quick question for all the computer savvy people here, is this a decent rig?

    Sapphire 6770

    FX-4100

    GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-S2P AM3+ mobo

    1TB HDD

Rosewill microatx mid tower case + 450W PSU

    1 stick corsair 4 gb DDR3 1333MHz ram

    dvd drive

    approx 500$ after rebates

EDIT: major concern is PSU and RAM speed... and gpu upgrade maybe?

  10. hey guys, this isn't exactly about a dektop, but i was wondering if you could help me still. i need to replace my old Toshiba Laptop, and i was wondering what type of FPS and specs i would be able to get with this one:

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+Pavilion+Laptop+/+AMD+A-Series+Processor+/+15.6%26%2334%3B+Display+/+8GB+Memory+-+Dark+Umber/4038134.p?id=1218450209175&skuId=4038134

due to school and everything i need the portablity of a laptop, any help would be great thanks!

only thing i would be worried about is the processor only going 1.5GHz... i havent read up on Turbo CORE so i dont know if it is sustained or just burst for an hour or two but if you can sustain the boost then maybe, you need a minimum of 2GHz processor speed to play

EDIT: other than that i think that is an ok laptop... someone please correct me if i am wrong.

  11. ok so i have a really crappy HP pavilion A000 as my old gaming rig (i cant even find specs easily without digging around on the internet for the better part of an hour), i was wondering if i could salvage ANY parts from this hunk of junk (planning on slavaging HDD because it is basically new) because even salvaging the case could bring down the cost of my build (on a really tight budget). Its been killing me this past week not being able to play when i got in first day...

EDIT: ok i came up with this like 20 mins after posting, help appreciated

    Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD

    AMD FX-4100 CPU

    GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-S2P

    Corsair 4gb 240 pin RAM

Rosewill MicroATX Mid Tower Computer Case, come with 1x 120mm Fan, 450W Power Supply

    Bundle= 295$

    SAPPHIRE 100328L Radeon HD 6770 1GB GDDR5 110$

    Sony DVD-ROM 18$

    Windows 7 OEM 100$

Total ~ 523$ (all parts from Newegg)
