  1. My reasons for leaving TOR

    1) EA, going F2P and knowing EA. Every new bit of content will be designed for the cash shop.

    2) Lack of things to do. There is only so many Alts one can roll.

    3) PVP gets old fast, Small arena console based PVP....meh - gear based PVP "shudders"

    4) Raids, most of the bosses are tank and spank. If you have played WoW, You have played TOR, and vice versa. Nothing new.

    5) Guild wars 2. The only f2p MMO worth playing is GW2. Arenanets model is successfull and is aimed at the community. Not milking the cash shop, which EA WILL do.

    6) The engine, The hero engine cant and wont support open world PVP on a massive scale. Hence the reason why illum got closed. It didnt work, the lag was pathetic, and it was still there 3 months down the line.

Dont get me started on sharding with a max cap of 300 players. MMO...yeh right.

    7) the idea of "because its star wars" wore off months ago. And the gamer in me took over.

    8) exploration, There is none. Everything is tunnelled. Probably designed like this due to the poor choice in engine. Again, another fail in the world of MMOs.

  2. I enjoyed it, But from day one i said its too linear. Everything feels funnelled. As soon as i stepped into the GW2 world. I knew TOR has missed a trick. Using the Hero engine killed this game for any epic MMOness. everytrhing is sharded. Jeeesh, on a fleet with under 200 people. The system creates a new shard. .. yeh..really MMO.
  3. I guess computers must cost a lot more in the US as lol at the 3000USD price.

Bought my wife a Dell Laptop for 450GBP (700USD) last year - only an i5 but it runs SW:ToR fine on High settings.

My tower is an older i5 put together for about 400.00GBP (650.00USD) (just the tower) and is around 2 years old now and runs on maxed out settings. Only occasional lag spikes caused by the server merges as was fine before.

Biggest thing I notice with people that have good spec'd machines but crappy performance is that they tend to often have a million applciations running in the back ground and a whole bunch of clutter on their harddisks which start on startup. MSCONFIG is your friend people - you really don't need "Wallpaper Roataion Program 2010" running in the background checking to make sure it is the latest version!

How do you know what applications people have running when they quote specs?

Quoting basic IT maintenance solutions doesnt solve the issue with the engine.

Having 16gb of RAM, and an I7 clocked to the max and a 7970. I dont think side applications will give the game a hit.

Now... If im running a video enconding program like Vdub while playing the game. Yeh i expect to see drops in performance because programs like this eat CPU power. But a program which uses a couple of mb and nothing in the CPU department. I need not to worry..yeh?

In this day an age, When an MMO has its opened world PVP area closed down due to issues with performance. That points to the choice in engine. Bottom line, when TOR has vast amounts of players on screen, It craps out, and it shouldnt. Its an MMO, its ment to be open, vast and massive. No wonder its tunnelled throughout the game.

  4. All you have to do is look at other games, Games like GW2. Thats technically still in beta, and the game runs so much better then TOR ever has. Yeh true TOR is using higher shaders, But does this make TOR look any better. No....

GW2 has epic shadows and textures, Can handle having mass amounts of players in one area and plays as an MMO should do.

Nothing will change in TOR, and this is because of the choice of engine, The hero engine. Which is a pile of crap.

And this is the reason I cancelled my sub, The game is sub par, 6+months in, and the engine is still failing.

I get high FPS in WZ and Ops. But, when in an area like the fleet when there is many players on screen in one area. The game takes a big dump.

  5. 5-6 times a month is unacceptable its really starting to irk me. I wor ful time raise a family and when i get to play more and more often the servers go down during prime time. Im paid up a year in advance , test ur content more before rushing it live. Provide a better service and you wont lose long term supporters.

    Priceless lol

They have downtime to introduce patches.

I wouldnt say first MMO, Id say first online game?

  6. not at all. The only way to reduce wait times is to increase the percentage of total healers and tanks. If you are DPS expect to wait. Same thing happens in WoW with their cross server LFG tool DPS always has to wait.

It doesn't matter if you have 100 or 1 million players use it if the percentage of each class is unbalanced.

    Bingo!

  7. Do you guys even know how to play an MMORPG anymore?

I was thinking the same lol

It takes 3mins to respec, If that, even to bind all the abilities again. It takes not time at all and the cost is minimal. But, its the new generation. If there is not a magic button. You cant do it. lol

There is even a respec droid which people can buy and can be dropped anywhere. So this saves time and travel. But... no magic button = impossible.

  8. Small steps now that lfg has been implemented it

Will be easy for them to go 1steo further and add xserver

I really hope they link the 3 apac servers

Also xserver doesnt ruin community that's a myth

To people who havent experienced it is its a myth. But as people have pointed out. Accountability, Act like an idiot on a server. Your name turns to mud.

There was MMOs before WoW, But i guess this is a myth to you aswell

    /facepalm

  9. I agree OP the whole game could use some toning down. Not every one of us is a hardcore gamer and hopefully Bioware will soon realize it.

You gotta be joking right? Please tell me you are joking. Toning down, give over! This game is a breeze compared to most games out there. I know there might be alot of abilities on your quickslots. But come on, Any muppet can figure out which abilities do what.

  10. I unsubbed... reason was stated twice to Bioware... no need to go over it again....

Just wanted to point out that in terms of other games that have the same mechanics and game play.. WOW.. STO sorta... RIFT , Aion.... you get the picture....

SWTOR is a solid game.. the endgame currently is kinda weak. The progression charts should be HM then EV the KP and so on... slipping nightmare as a stepping stone to the next tier for those that want it.

The way it stands right now... you can totally bypass EV and KP if you want to.... by just doing HM's.. the 4 mans not the EV HM.

But this is a side effect of lazy bioware employees who think leaving people to wait for stuff after they have started it is OK... not like the customers are paying thier bills or anything right?

other than the endgame being weak.. yes swtor is a great single player game til 50.. truely it is.

Opinions, Just like my opinion to WoW, which i hate.

My opinion got changed about GW2 which is amazing for the beta.

But one thing i dont do is expect a new MMO to have stella endgame content. No MMO does in its birth period. Its stupid to expect this. If you cant see content takes time. Then id say move on!

  11. ouch lol thats alot of expensive unneeded ( as of yet:P)ram..but damn thats a nice computer.

i still maintain that the hero engine was not ever designed to run on a multi core platform and thats where the majority of issues are stemming from... allocation of resources and optimization of cpu usage...the engine confuses up the cores something fierce..

my dual core laptop runs better than my wifes quad core pc

It is needed, I run Ableton live and alot of VST synths ;)

  12. Ill repost my issues as the thread it was posted in, the mod stopped replying

Most people on the server we tranfered to were saying the FPS has dropped massively. from a fleet of 20, to a fleet of just under 300. The FPS has dropped. All this time i have been thinking the engine and performance has been getting better. When in fact its because there has been less people.

Now its back to the old days of illum.

My system should run this game flawlessly.

Yesterday FPS cap of 111. Today, 30 average and even lower near the GTN or PVP area.

    i7 2700k @4.6ghz

    16gb vengeance Ram

    XFX ATI 7970 Black edition

Installed on a SSD 120gig drive

I have been building PCs for years, and never have I know a gaming engine to be so poorly optimised, In a group of around 30 people, I hit 17fps...17 lol. You might say update your drivers etc. Which everything is updated, Most people gaming who have PCs know how to run a pc, check and update drivers, clear cache. But when the whole fleet is all moaning about the FPS issue. It says it all really. 6months down the line this SHOULD of been pin pointed and sorted by now.

Not to mention the delay behind using abilities, opening the cargohold. guild bank, vendors. Its your gaming engine and server hardware which is at fault.

No wonder you shard, Id hate to see the performance with over 300 players in one shard. No PC in the world would run this game.

    /endrant

  13. Too many Silver Elites in general grinding/questing areas, imo.

And do we really need almost every single quest to end with a Gold Elite(usually with multiple mobs around him)?

Are you serious? Your joking right? Your trying to be funny?

    Naaaaaah, cant be!

  14. declining pops, lack of innovation (accept single player voice overs), every patch seems to break something else, Useless "Legacy" system. i gave this game 3 months, and i think im experienced enough in MMos to compare this to a Developed F2P one. eq2 and Lotro have got it right. F2P is the way to go.

    Get a paper round!

  15. I am tired of seeing the same argument. "Game XYZ had bugs too, their servers were down for 3 whole days!". "Such and such had a bug where you couldn't alt tab without crashing". yadda yadda....

Your right, tons of other MMOs had bugs. And tons of other MMOs failed because of those bugs.

Sever MMO's had bugs, but small MINOR bugs like a graphical error here, or the wrong text there. Most bugs were corrected within a week of being found. Let's check on star wars' bugs.

There is still over 50 bugs that I reported IN BETA that are still around today. That's a lot.

Every patch, something else breaks not even relating to the patch notes.

Soa is still buggy. The VERY FIRST operations end boss.. How is that even possible?

Tons of quests either failing to update, or not letting me talk to whom I need to talk to, forcing me to reset is still an issue, most of them require me to be in a group, which is very rare in this game, but it is still around.

The list could go on for days....

Server status is fine, that was a good job by them, but You have a shiny pair of wheels on a beat up car, and it still looks like crap.Customer Service.. a joke. Player to Developer interaction? Scripted.

So yeah, most MMO's when they launch do have bugs, a small glitch that prevents you from completing one quest, or an issue where an NPC won't trigger an event or something along those lines, Look at the patch notes since launch and see how many bugs have been fixed. Then think about the amount of bugs that have shown up after they fixed bugs that weren't relating to them.

Remember when 1.2 dropped and you couldn't log out of the game? Awesome. Replies.. those are still broken, minor tweaks seem to be made every update, yet nothing is said about it in the patch notes.

Imperial Agent cover system was broke for about 2 weeks after 1.2, and slowly it's been getting better/patched here and there, with no mention of it at all.

So yeah, look at the HUGE list of bug fixes, then realise that is probably a fraction of what has had to be fixed and caused by the company themselves. They cause more bugs than fix in my opinion.

EVERY MMO has bugs and will always have bugs, Some bugs get fixed and some more apear, This is MMO gaming. So no matter if your sick of it, Its NEVER going to stop. You will NEVER get an MMO without bugs. FACT

    Welcome to MMO's

  16. Well...donot feel too bad. I paid for a 6 month sub for TOR and feel now like that was a huge mistake. Wish I had made a 1 month or 3 month sub mistake..lol.

Its post like this which make me laugh. When i regret buying a game, I either

    a) trade it for a new game

    b) give it to a friend to play and see if they can enjoy it.

You guys who hate the game yet post day in and day out must be missing something in the upstairs department, Its obvious you dont like this game reading your posts. Yet you are still here trolling everyday.

  17. Yeah... they said those same things about combat logs, you know the ones in game now?

they said the same thing about x-server PVP queues, you know the ones going in at 1.3?

they said the same thing about same server LFG tool, you know the one going in at 1.3?

    You seeing a trend here?

The minor QQ about this stuff (and the x-server LFG) means nothing to BW, they are a business and have to make money. When the overwhelming majority of the player base wants something... they get it or the company goes bust. Economics 101 is now over...

I think you guys may be the ones with the closed eyes or deluding yourself... changes are here, changes BW swore would NEVER be added to this game... and more are coming, holding to your "purity of the game" mantra is commendable but worthless when money is involved.

They never said it about LFG same server as they inputted a system from day one. Although not that great. The only thing they have gone back on what they said was X-server PVP. But yet you sill didnt answer why you seem to skip over the reasons stated by many in this thread, and the devs. Calling the reasons lies or made up. ... Meh

  18. Nobody explained anything. You all just made crap up and expect us to eat it.

Well if you read back before the game was launched to BW reasons why they didnt want Cross server. They said the same reasons which has been explained in this thread OVER AND OVER again. Yet your still deluded enough to close your eyes to the reasons stated as they are not your reasons. Gotta love the internet.
