  1. The article actually makes a few interesting points. Essentially, as I read it, the argument is the prequels have a more complex premise. As to that point, I agree (to a point). There was more potential maybe for a good movie there, but it was horribly realized. If they wanted to make Star Wars: West Wing (or House of Cards if you prefer), that is all well and good, but that is not what the movies really were. They were disorganized and jumbled with no real character development at all. Further, the characters that did exist were often acting in bizarre ways that made little internal sense (e.g., how do you warn the Naboo of an invasion if you go down WITH the army???) If the story had focused on Palpatine and his rise to power and manipulating Skywalker and Obi Wan like puppets, well that would have been interesting. Instead, we see only a few scenes with Palpatine and they are all as subtle as a brick in the air. (See e.g., "It's not a story the Jedi would tell you. It's a Sith legend...") So sure, there was the potential to be good. It was just fumbled horribly. Instead, watch the original trilogy. You will see characters you care about. The Empire is more or less a force of nature that is unstoppable and even the small victories matter. Incidentally, one of the reasons Ep. VI is so much less successful is that the Empire actually collapses, breaking the concept of the David vs. Goliath struggle.
  2. One: That is not the way life works. Some of us are quite successful and our success comes from our reputation. For example, I am a lawyer who has a reputation as someone who says what he means and does what he says. People know that and expect it of me. I strongly disagree with your philosophy; it only works in huge groups where no one actually knows anyone else. Otherwise your personal reputation gets destroyed. (Note, this does not mean I don't advocate in Court on behalf of clients, but I use logic and law, not dishonesty and dirty tricks to win.) Two: I have noted the names of persons who are guilded who do that to me and mentioned it to their officers. I have also reported ninjas on General and asked everyone to ignore the person. If they are ignored, they won't be grouping much later... One of the big goals of SWTOR is to have smaller servers where your reputation matters. Ninjas will find it harder and harder to operate as they level.
  3. My jugg looks awful. I really want a hood and ventilator at the same time--is that possible? I also need a decent set of armor (just starting Tatooine at level 25); any ideas?
  4. 1. Areas are huge. Planets are huge places. 2. Planets are instanced. 3. Most people are apparently not in your level bracket. I see dozens of people every time I play.
  5. Isn't the real issue with need for companion that by the time you get up there in level, you can almost always use an item for a companion. Basically every class is represented by the companions. Companions should always be greed (because the reality is everyone can use almost any item for a companion). Need for you; greed for everyone else. If you really really want something for a companion and you ask and no one objects, then you may need for a companion. The issue is there will always be jerks who need everything. If we had server forums, we would be able to track these ninjas easier. But we don't
  6. I agree the Organas are a ruling family, but the concept of royalty is a bit weird, no? Why is he senator then and never prince? Why are the Naboo royals term limited? The whole thing is just weird and it is never explained in the movies, but left to others to try to explain. My point is these are not well explained in the movie and we need to come up with ways to explain the weirdness.
  7. How about how little things like how is Chancellor Palpatine also from Naboo when it seems that all other politicians are former queens? How did Leia become princess when her dad was senator? There are so many weird inconsistencies that it just makes no sense. Add to that just bad writing and terrible acting and it is clear that it was more an excuse to show off special effects than to tell a story that made sense.
  8. I suppose it is conceivable that at some point in the 3,000 years between the game and Ep1 the logo lost its connection with the Sith Empire and became an accepted symbol and adopted by the Republic. For example, in the U.S. Senate, one of the symbols is the fasces of Rome, which is also the origin of the word fascism. The symbol means different things in different contexts over centuries and such...
  9. There are a few issues with add ons I didn't see in this post. One, they introduce a potential security hole. Keyloggers have snuck into systems via add ons. That is a major issue and something we should consider here. Two, there are some uses for add ons, primarily for UI tweeks or keymapping in unusual ways. These can largely be addressed by Bioware so that no one is desperate for add ons. Three, statistics can be a good thing but can also be misused. I am not against them being added to operations for people who like such things. In general, I am in favor of letting Bioware add these things, especially as they said they are working on redoing the UI.
  10. If it were my group, I would be fine with him rolling need on it if he told us why he was rolling need. After all, mods are cheap and I replace them at the end of each planet anyway.
  11. Yes, it is possible and easy at least leveling. I use the commendation vendors to power up my orange at the end of each planet. At 50, who knows.
  12. And do you remember the queues when WoW released? I waited hours and I remember the forums with everyone claiming Blizzard would be bankrupt in a matter of weeks. And don't forget server crashes. Those were near daily at release. Oh, and if you got NEAR Ironforge, the computer would nearly crash from all the effects being cast! I am glad someone else actually remembers how it was at release. I especially remember the "arenas" lying around where we were supposed to be able to PvP and watch PvP matches, but they were not ready yet. Later, that concept of PvP was dropped. Compared with WoW, SWTOR has TONS more content than WoW at release. Seriously. Chill guys. Enjoy the ride, learn the classes, and in a few months they will add a few more instances to play with. In 2 years or so there will be an expansion. Etc. Rushing is no good anyway on your first playthrough guys as you are missing the story, etc., which is pretty good and lots of fun.
  13. I call lore shenanigans on you for using BBY for a game that happens before the Battle of Yavin! How can you track time based on something that has not happened yet? Obviously only a total non-Star Wars fan could make such a mistake.
  14. So since it is not illegal for me to make fun of you in real life, you are saying it is cool if I follow you around all day making fun of you until you hit me, then call the cops to have you arrested for assault? Just making sure that your policy of "it is not prohibited, so grow up" works in the real world too. The simple fact of the matter is if it is rude and hurts the community, you should not be doing it in an MMO.
  15. It wasn't clear enough! It didn't say it (even though it is in front of my face)! It is a fake!
  16. It costs $5 to preorder. $5 does not a class system make (at least in the first world; if you live in a hut in rural Africa, then yes, I will happily concede the point, though.)
  17. I am not thrilled with the way it is going, but I also can understand their concern: if they give people a date, they have to deliver and if something goes wrong, EVERYONE will be screaming bloody murder. They are basically hoping for patience (which is not in abundance right now) and trying their best. It is annoying, but I think understandable.
