Purple crystals only seem available as part of max level sith pve Columni gear. And that crystal is untradable. I don't have a high level repub, so I don't know what the color is for republic.

Uhh don't know if this has been mentioned, but all tier pieces have a hood.... Just go to social, turn off helm, enjoy a hood... Confirmed this for both Tioneses and Colonmi, which are both easy to get. And in fact, quite a lot of the gear leveling up is the same way, you just need to turn off displaying your helm. Enjoy

My suggestion: Don't do hard modes. Like others have said, there are very few drops for marauders in terms of straight gear (not counting tokens). My big suggestion: Modable Items. It is far easier and (imo) more enjoyable to do heroic dailies and get the free mod and enhancement every day (one is from Belsavis, the other from Illum). Then use the daily tokens to get more enhancements and hilts, and also your Rakata ear and implants, which are Best in Slot ATM. As for why there is so "little" gear for Marauders/Snipers, remember that both of those advanced classes are pure dps, they don't have any other "possible" function (though one could argue tough marauder), so there is no real need for Bioware to make us two different sets like other classes need to be able to all of their different roles. You chose a pure dps class from the beginning, you should have realized that there would be fewer options available. The Short and sweet version: Get Modable gear and do your dailies. You'll get geared much faster and enjoy it a lot more than trying to do Hardmodes all day.

Is is possible to preview weapons in the dressing room? It never seems to work for me, I can look at armor no problem, but never with a weapon.

I am currently leveling with two friends who are leveling the same class, and everytime that they do a class quest, they are having to do it twice (we are sharing quest zones for free XP). My question is, it it possible for them both to complete the same quest in the same instance at the same time, or do they really need to do it twice everytime?
