It's easy enough to try it to find out. You don't even need to have or buy a weapon. Just open your character pane, "C", and switch to your companion's portrait. Any weapon that's not greyed out, can be equipped on the companion. For example, you could go to a vendor and open up their items for sale list. Any weapons on that list that you can use, will not be greyed out, or they will be 'lit up'. When you open your companion pane, only weapons usable by the companion will be 'lit up'. However, as far as I know, a companion that uses a dualsaber may also be able to wield other two handed weapons such as Techstaffs, but not single handed weapons.
