Name Suggestion/Request

I have a Character name that I was given permission by its original creator and was told it has no copyright. I checked the Code of Conduct name creation part and I don't see anything there that this name would violate. The Name is Rigmor, with SWTOR Legacy system I choose this name as all my characters are part of a family case adrift though space and time. the backstory for each character is different but the last Character I had planed to make was Rigmor. The name is not just for the sack of the Legacy and roleplay but also because I black to write a book on these characters. I would like to strongly suggest this name be implemented for Character creation. as well as a system here in the forums for people to request names for approval so long as they do not violate the Code of Conduct. if this name does get implemented I would humbly request either a in-game mail to notify me about it or an email. This will help me get her story on a track so I can finish laying the final touches for my book to be written. thank you

I don't understand the request. If the name doesn't break the rules, just go ahead and use it. No formalised permission is needed.

If the name shows up as "unavailable" when you try to use it as a character name, that means that someone else already has a character by that name. If it shows up as "Invalid", that means it falls foul of the automated name censoring, which usually catches:

* Certain small words such as "the" as separate or semi-separate elements.

* Certain ordinary Earthly personal names, including "Alice". ("Alyce" is OK, "Alice" is not.)

* A range of rude words.

* Certain trademarked names, including "Phoenix" (most likely because of the X-Men character)

* Some other oddities, probably.

The "Unavailable" thing doesn't affect legacy names because they are not required to be unique.

Point of law: in general, names are not copyrightable anyway. They may in some cases be *trademarks*, but not copyright.

If the automated censor is telling you the name is "Invalid", then it's probably the trademark thing biting you, and you're unlikely to get any help. You certainly won't get any help here on the forums, because it would require the SWTOR legal department to get involved, and your acquaintance would have to provide written proof of the permission.

If it's "unavailable", mess with it a little. Change it from Rigmor to Rig'mor or Ri'gmor, or use a hyphen instead of an apostrophe ("Rig-mor"). (I personally quite like the look of Ri'gmor.)

this was posted here by instruction from the support team. the name Rigmor shows up as "Invalid Name", I was told to put this here as the dev look though these. I have tried every type of messing with the name I can think of including using Microsoft word to put symbols over the "o" but no success. if they need any "proof" I have direct messages from the creator of the character Rigmor with the permission

well I just doing what customer support told me to do

this is quoted from the email I received about my in-game ticket on this

"As I understand,

you'd like to use the character name "Rigmor" and you get a message that it's an invalid name.

You'd only be able to use the names that are in accordance with the terms of service. At customer service

we don't have option to change the name of your character to a specific name and hence, if you believe

your chosen name doesn't violate any Terms of Service then please share this with our team. Our development team are always interested to hear suggestions, ideas, and constructive criticism about the game, and they regularly check the official forums to read feedback from players like you.

If you haven’t already, please post this in the Suggestion Box on the official forums: http://www.swtor.com/community/forumdisplay.php?f=349"

so I am doing what they said to do nothing more nothing less if there is a different way I am all ears.

Hmm. Interesting. I doubt that the original creator of the name is in any position to care one way or another, frankly, since its origin is in Mediaeval Danish, derived from "Ricmuda" in Old High German.

If you mean the person who created the "Rigmor of Cyrodiil" mod for Skyrim, say so, but in any event, it's an actual Earthly personal name.

so is Artorius Latin for Arthur and I able to use it so i don't see why they can't change it. hence why I was told to put the request/suggestion here by the Customer Service member

Of course they *can* change it, but today, Rigmor is a personal name for contemporary Danish, Swedish and Norwegian women(0), just like Alice is a personal name for contemporary people in the English-speaking world(1). A general search for "Rigmor" shows up a bunch of different uses, some of which might end up being treated as trademarks for legal purposes, but the person in your screenshot is quite right about one thing. "Rigmor", being a personal name, is *not* copyright.

(0) That is, Rigmor is Danish (or Swedish) (or Norwegian) for Rigmor.

(1) Quite possibly Alice is marked "Invalid" because of Alice in Wonderland, but that's speculation.

I have a character name Ragnar with a symbol above both of the "a", but this is besides the point. this was posted here by recommendation of the support team for the dev to see and consider. now considering when I google the name Rigmor for the first 5-10 pages all I see is Rigmor of Bruma or Rigmor of Cyrodiil and maybe 1 link to the "origin of the name" I not quite sure it violates the code of conduct, just like Artorius or Ragnar which are based off my Skyrim character's I have had that I have turned into "follower mods" who are based of their "inspirations" either from a history book, a movie, or a tv show. this is the same with all my World of Warcraft Characters, and if I ever get back into it Elder Scrolls Online. However this has gotten way to off track and off the point. I have said it before I am going to say it again this was posted here by recommendation of the support team for the dev to see and consider nothing more nothing less!!
