Release Cold Climate Jedi Gear

Recommended Posts

Posted here, because I know it's going to get ignored in the general Suggestions thread.

The Jedi you meet on Hoth are wearing some kind of specialized cold weather robes. You first see them on the station, but they're elsewhere planetside, specifically, one of the characters in the Knight's storyline

Leeha Narezz

is wearing this outfit. For players that RP with their outfits, this is necessary gear that has been held back far too long. Please release it.

And no, the Hoth Defender outfit isn't enough, because it has that awful high hood that shows you have no hair underneath if you don't wear the mask. This ruins what would've been an otherwise acceptable outfit for cold climates.

Leeha doesn't wear any cold weather outfit on Hoth though. She is wearing one of the vanilla chest pieces you used to get from an FP drop... nowadays the same model is used on Sanctified Caretaker armor set and another close to it is craftable Jedi Initiate robe. Jedi Sage vestment also has some padding to it (vanilla armor), but the most "warm" looking robe in-game I'd say is Tattered Mystic Robes (fp vendor), which is also a legacy armor.

But if you can manage without robes, Luke for example just used basic rebel cold weather outfit rather than any robes, and there is a bunch of cold weather jackets on CM.

It is possible to obtain both variants of the Jedi robes worn by Jedi NPC's on Hoth, though they do not have the yellow coloration and may have slight visual differences.

This is the set of robes worn by the Jedi Knight NPC's. The set worn by the NPC's does not have the neck-thing that droops off the upper chest (I like to call that the "Vomit Bag."). Pieces of this armor set are easy to come across on the GTN, both under heavy and medium armor (The "Crystalline" armor is under adaptive.).

This is the set of robes worn by the Jedi Master and Jedi Padawan NPC's. Jedi Master NPC's wear the variant obtainable by players (The set with the shoulder pieces and a hood, the headpiece of the "Force Herald" armor set hides the hood.). Jedi Padawan NPC's have a unobtainable version of the armor, not having the hood and the shoulder pieces. The "Force Herald" armor set is easily obtainable through Tier 1 Galactic Command crates (upon reaching level 70), or goes for cheap on the GTN under adaptive gear.

Hope this information helps you out.

Thanks, these look like them or at least very close to what I've seen.

I know Luke didn't have robes on Hoth. He just wore whatever the Rebel snow troopers wore, but this is a different era, when the Jedi are numerous. Luke also didn't even begin his formal training. I would think the Jedi would have specialized cold climate gear. We see the Jedi wearing parkas in The Clone Wars:

Fine, Yoda doesn't seem to be wearing one, but when you're Grandmaster of the Jedi Order, you probably can use the Force to insulate yourself from the cold, so you get a pass. Although, he might be wearing a slightly thicker outer robe....

And the Hoth Defender outfit kind of proves this (although it was released late). I initially expected everyone in the Republic to be seen wrapped in the Thermal Retention/Polar Exploration gear or the Hoth Ranger outfit, but I was surprised to find this was not the case: Jedi wear some kind of robes, officers sometimes wear a blue-dyed standard uniform (presumed to be a special cold climate uniform) and troopers wear Frontline with a different helmet, but Frontline's no longer available, so you have to piece it together from other sets. I would say many of the NPCs are inadequately dressed for the cold. Yeah, go ahead and handwave the Jedi are using the Force to insulate themselves from the cold, but that still seems impractical, if not implausible. The Sith seem to have some kind of cold climate gear, as I've yet to see the armor they wear elsewhere (although they wear no headgear) so why wouldn't the Jedi?

What cold weather jackets? Only Thermal Retention/Polar Exploration are ostensibly parkas. The Hoth Ranger and Arctic Scout are less heavy coats. (Arctic Scout is really just a chest variant of Hoth Ranger). Also, Polar Exploration is not a hoodless Thermal Retention, because the dye pattern is different, so it works with very few dyes if you want a hoodless version. The lack of cold weather gear is disappointing. If there's something I've missed that could pass as a parka or coat even, then let me know.

I like to actually dress my characters appropriate to the setting. Neither Thermal Retention nor Hoth Ranger fit in with the rest of the Jedi...and Hoth Defender is ugly because of that shallow hood. I've yet to find a headpiece that looks good with it, other than the one that's part of the set.
