New 70 - do not understand my loot

Once I hit 70 I stated getting loot I do not understand - is there a guide somewhere? I get some packs when my Command goes up, I get weird rewards from Heroics that I do not know what to do with, and all kinds of currencies, rep tokes that give me rep with people I've never heard of, etc.

I am only in Ziost story wise even through I am 70. My guess is these items are intended for someone who finished KotET but I could be wrong.

Thanks for any help.

If you are doing the whole story and you are on Ziost, then you should have at least some idea what reputation is because you get tokens from doing Black Hole, Section X on Belsavis, CZ-198, Oricon, Rishi, and Yavin IV to name a few. There are about 20 total reputation factions. If you open your legacy interface (default is the Y key) and click on Reputation, you will see a complete list. Click on a listing and you will get a synopsis of the faction.

The "weird rewards" you are getting from Heroics are known as "alliance crates" and yes they do come into play later in the story. Save them, you will need them.

With regard to currencies, If you are talking about "command tokens" they allow you purchase end game equipment. That is the only currency I can think that comes from the command crates (the packs you get from gaining in Command Levels). If it is not Command Tokens, please specify.

There are different things going on that are all munged together here.

* Command packs: each time you gain a command rank (when the orange bar that replaced the XP bar fills up), you get a command pack.

* Heroic mission rewards: each heroic rewards level 61+ characters with a locked crate that you take to people you will meet at the end of KotFE Chapter IX, once you arrive on Odessen.

* When you do that, you will get "Commander's Share" packs. *You* are the Commander, and this is your share of the contents of the crate.

Command packs: These contain four or five objects:

* An empty orange-shell piece of gear: an armour piece or a weapon.

* A piece of end-game gear with stats obtained by mods (or fixed stats for "left side" pieces like relics. This is always suitable for the Discipline you have selected when you open the crate.

* A reputation item for some in-game group or other (but not for Cartel Market pack groups) such as Voss, Makeb, etc.

* 5, 8, 12, or some other quantity of Command Tokens that can be used at the Command Token vendor in the Supplies area of the Fleet. (If you start numbering the bays at 1 for the low-level mods vendors, it will be the last bay but one, in the rear middle of the bay.)

* If present, the fifth item will occasionally be stupid things like minipets, but might be a schematic for end-game rated gear.

The end-game gear will be in different tiers according to the tier of your pack. Tier 1 for command levels 1-90, 2 for 91-180, 3 for 181-300, and tier 4 each time you fill the bar when you are level 300.

Tier 1 gear is "Eternal Commander" in MK-1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. MK-1 is green and does not exist above tier 1. MK-2 is blue mods rated 230. 3 is purple mods rated 232 with a set bonus. 4 is crafted (so comes from the schematics) fixed-stat stuff, purple 232. 5 is yellow/golden rated 234 with a set bonus.

Tier 2 gear is "Eternal Commander" in MK-12, 13, 14, 15 - blue, purple, crafted-purple, and yellow from 234 to 238.

Tier 3 is "Iokath" in Mk-2, 3, 4, 5, ratings from 240 to 244.

Tier 4 is "GEMINI", and goes all the way up to 248.

Commander's Share crates will drop:

* One legacy-bound armour shell, moddable, adaptive, and empty.

* One Companion Gift of rank 5 or 6, OR occasionally one speeder or one decoration.

* Sometimes a second Companion Gift. If it is present, there will not be a decoration or speeder, and the gifts will be one rank 5, one rank 6.

* 500 influence points (automatically granted) with the Alliance Specialist you got it from.

The armour shells come in 8 themes, one per base class pair, and 5 sets per theme:

* Arkanian - useful if you want to look like the armour set of a start-at-60 character. Just buy a headset "helmet" from the Adaptive Gear Vendor in the Fleet.

* Dread Guard

* Contraband

* Yavin

* Resurrected.

you missed jawa scrap as did I.

Jawa scrap comes in three varieties: Green, blue and purple. Within a command crate you may get 8 Green, 4 blue or 1 purple. This currency is used to purchase crafting materials from the jawa scrap vendors located in the Cartel Bazaar on the Fleet (there are also jawa scrap vendor stronghold "decorations" so you can have these vendors in your stronghold).

  • Green jawa scrap tokens are used to purchase gathering skill materials (archaeology, bioanalysis, scavenging) grades 1 through 9
  • Blue jawa scrap tokens are used to purchase prototype/blue quality mission skill materials (slicing, diplomacy, investigation, treasure hunting, underworld trading) grades 1 through 9
  • Purple jawa scrap tokens are used to purchase artifact/purple quality mission skill materials (slicing, diplomacy, investigation, treasure hunting, underworld trading) grades 1 through 9

each token type/color has its own vendor.

I believe you can also purchase certain companion gifts from these vendors "delicacies" and "maintenance" used primarily for cartel market companions influence (e.g. the ack dog)

Eventually grade 10 materials will be included but exactly when is not known.

With all this cool stuff at level 70, is there any reason to do crafting? Can you make better items than you can get via loot?

Yes and no.

Running ops and pvp will always grant the best gear period.

However crafting can create the second best gear available.

Therefore yes there is reason to do crafting at end game, But no the best loot is obtained from drops in specific aspects of the game or through the RNG of GC.

Crafting was good before 5.2 when you could get 240 gear. Now that ops drops 242s you can just spam EV and KP Hardmode for easy gear, not the best in game, but easy.

I'm having good results spamming warzones, loads of Command packs and tokens to buy UCs to fill in the RNG gaps.

Yup as for me I have many 242 tokens in my inventory, just spamming warzones and GSF too for components to upgrade them. Im rank 300 so any 248s i get from crates i place mod and enhancement to my alts gear.

No. The Fleet vendors do not sell augments. They sell armorings, barrels, hilts, mods, and enhancements, but not augments.

So there are just two ways to get augments? Crafting and GTN? That's cool because I'm enjoying crafting, and would like some actual reason to keep doing it (it slows down game progress)

Don't forget that if you see them on the GTN, that's because someone else crafted them. Then think about how you might take advantage of that. (No, the hint's not getting any broader than that.)

EDIT: Sorry, misread what you wrote. Looks, when I reread it, like you're already aware of that.
