ComradeDima
The launcher itself won't start for me. I've tried turning off antivirus, re-started the computer several times, tried downloading the launcher again and running it (same issue, it doesn't open). I've looked through the processes tab in Task Manager and the launcher appears in the list when I run it. Because they don't include a repairlauncher.exe any more for some reason, I can't think of any way to resolve this. Any help would be great, thanks Edited January 22, 2017 by ComradeDima
OwenBrooks
Try the repair utility at this link that is the forum that is best posting about this too. What antivirus are you using ?
ComradeDima
Didn't work I was using AVG Free, but I've uninstalled it to see if it helps. So far, no success.
OwenBrooks
Have a look in the c:\windows\syswow64 folder and if a libcef.dll file is in there delete it if launcher.exe is in the taskmanager, it can also be a firewall issue along with anything like malware blockers in firefox etc
ComradeDima
There's no folder of that name in the syswow64 folder unfortunately. I haven't made any firewall changes or changed anything in Firefox, though I don't see how any Firefox plugins could affect starting the SWTOR launcher. ComradeDima
Yep, restarted multiple times since removing AVG. I have just added the entire SWTOR game directory to the exceptions list in Windows Defender, and SWTOR was already listed as an exception in Windows Firewall. No change so far. OwenBrooks
If launcher.exe is appearing in the task list then it is likely something is halting it , its just what In the game folder when the launcher is closed , also check for a folder called patch if it is there delete it. ComradeDima
Tried that, starting the launcher still doesn't do anything except create the patch folder again.
OwenBrooks
I have seen on the odd occasion it was windows security permissions in these cases the game couldn't write into the folder and halted, but given it created the patch folder the next thing would be for it to download and place files into this folder again if blocked downloading or writing it stops There is another log location in the bitraider folder look for a file callled swtor_swtor also doesnt hurt to ensure launcher.exe is running as administrator Edited January 22, 2017 by OwenBrooks
OwenBrooks
Can try taking the system to a clean boot per this link just be minful if using streaming the bitraider mini support service stub loader needs to be enabled
ComradeDima
Ok, I'll try that. Despite creating the patch folder when I run the launcher, it doesn't put anything in it, so I guess (like you said) it's being prevented from downloading files. OwenBrooks
Have to get going after 11pm here another thing to test / try is create a new windows administrator account/profile and see if the launcher works there, can delete that profile after testing if no change Edited January 22, 2017 by OwenBrooks
ComradeDima
Ok, will try these options. I have a backup of SWTOR on an external hard drive and I'm having the same issue when I try to launch from there, so it's almost definitely something blocking SWTOR's connection as you said, rather than a problem with the game files. ComradeDima
I located the problem, some pretty bad malware in my sysWOW34 folder that disguised itself as system files, preventing me from deleting it or removing it via virus scanner. I did a factory reset on my PC and reinstalled SWTOR, and now the launcher starts, but now pressing play doesn't start the game. Just ran a dxdiag in case it could be of any use. https://hastebin.com/susalosiba.tex
