Player Generations

I am new to SWTOR so I apologize if something like this has been suggested before.

IDEA

Next Expansion after Knights of the Eternal Throne

Chapter 1

  • Characters get companion that is their apprentice
  • Unlike normal companion, user goes through character creation
  • Apprentice's race and class = any available through regular character creation
  • Apprentice is much lower level and is mostly just along for the ride
  • Apprentice assists you through Chapter 1 and levels up from 1 to 10

At the end of Chapter 1

The player's character (one of these depending on story/class/alignment)

  • Dies heroically
  • Retires due to old age / disease / injury
  • Murdered by apprentice
  • Goes into hiding
  • Etc.

Chapter 2

  • Player now controls the apprentice (2nd generation character)
  • Starts at level 10
  • Inherits/steals all possessions of 1st generation character (including soulbound items)
  • Picks a new name or takes the name their old master to honor / dishonor / impersonate them
  • Can complete non-class mission chains 1st generation character skipped (if timeline appropriate)
  • Benefits from legacy system like any new character

Chapter 3,4,5,...

  • Game continues with the new character
  • Character progresses like any other new character
  • But story occurs in timeline after original story like in previous expansions

WHY HAVE GENERATIONS?

Makes sense in the Star Wars universe

  • Qui-Gon Jinn > Obi-Wan Kenobi > Luke Skywalker
  • Jango Fett > Boba Fett
  • etc.

SWTOR can be expanded indefinitely

  • Can add chapters without raising level cap, adding skills, or creating new gear
  • New characters can start out small. Don't have to keep raising the stakes story-wise
  • Can keep players interested with or without improvements to end game
  • Infinite number of possible generations to continue the story
  • Does for SWTOR what "regeneration" does for Doctor Who

Avoids common MMO pitfalls

  • More levels = more skills = homogenized classes
  • Repeatedly more levels + class balancing = seesaw effect
  • If everyone's forever the bad*** savior of the galaxy, nobody is
  • Epic climax meaningless because the story just keeps going
  • Lower levels exist only to grind to end game
  • Lower level areas become ghost towns as game ages
  • Small budgets + everything has to be 100% new = underwhelming content in expansions
  • Becomes unenjoyable without a guild
  • More levels = more grind = more new players give up before reaching end game = dead guilds

Other benefits for BioWare

  • New content without completely new environments and characters
  • Re-use tons of content: new missions in unused areas of current planets
  • Legacy system a better reward for long-time players
  • Account unlocks more valuable in cartel store
  • Potentially less complaining about end game
  • Most of the benefits of a SWTOR 2 without costing a fortune

Developers could also more easily create new content for all levels

  • New planets for levels 1-65
  • New missions for levels 1-65
  • New equipment for levels 1-65
  • More Legacy levels and perks

Better for players

  • Can enjoy different classes without repeating solo chapters from expansions
  • Reason to keep old equipment instead of trashing at upgrade
  • Market demand for crafted items at all levels
  • Same level/different generation can play together
  • New planets and missions to choose from at lower levels
  • This is a cool idea. Admit it.

ADDITIONAL IDEAS

  • Bonus if 2nd generation is same class/species/alignment as 1st
  • Characters romanced in 1st generation are sad/angry/mourning in 2nd generation
  • New species/classes that are only available to characters in the 2nd generation
  • Retired/disabled 1st generation character lives in your stronghold and will craft for you
  • Mission where 1st generation character returns as temporary companion to help out old apprentice
  • Mission where 1st generation character returns to get revenge against old apprentice
  • Two paths for 2nd generation: one set of chapters for Jedi/Sith, one for classes without force powers (instead of Republic/Sith Empire)

I don't know if anybody actually reads these but, either way, that's my suggestion.

chapter 1 he hunt + dream + ¿lana? + new companions chapter 1

chapter 2 the aliance search allies and missions in planetes including padawan so given more time to train him and put a story with or outlender

the sith this with the Jedi Knight had a history against the emperor, you could add the desapadezca wants "and" let us not bother us ""

chapter 3 the command, infiltration at the base, the final battle

PD: prefer Nadia)

teneo us apprentices, nadia and kira the Jedai do you mean to create one or that's the next, could be based on hisotoria when we are carbonized, or create one that class is called Padawan or learned as if huvieramos had a new second
