Was Shmi's death part of Palpatine's scheme?

Recommended Posts

It was never made clear, but her death was a VERY important piece of Anakin's downfall. Without the dream and what happened to her, Anakin would not have been in great panic in EP III when he had the dream of Padme. I doubt he would seek the power of the Dark Side to save Padme simply because of the dream either. Since Palpatine had started to manipulate the Chosen one from EP I, it's hard to believe he was not involved in Shmi's death.

I don't think that was Palpatine's doing either, he just exploited that event.

I actually don't think that event was overly critical on his path to the Dark Side. While it certainly caused him considerable inner turmoil, it was his continued obsession to protect his loved ones by any means necessary that undid him, and Shmi was just the first instance of this.

As others have said, Palp merely capitalized on it, but he sure didn't cause it. But frankly, it was his love for Padme that was the ultimate downfall for Anakin. His mother could of lived and hell Raised Luke instead of Owen Lars and Anakin still would of fallen.

That was an inevitability.

If it wasn't Shmi's death vision come true, Anakin would certainly not be in panic simply because of a dream and seek for the Dark Side, which mean Palptine would not be able to sway Anakin to his side.

That event was a important bridge to connect him to the downfall of EP III. It

let Anakin believe his vision would come true.

let him taste the pain to lose a loved one.

opened the path of anger to him

If Shmi had not been killed after the vision. Anakin would not have believe his vision that much, thus he would not give up everything to save Padme because of that vision.

No, Anakin would of. That man would of given up everything for Padme, regardless of Shmi's death.

I think you all forgetting one thing....

THE JEDI ORDER contributed to the fall of Skywalker to the dark side...

The jedi order reminded skywalker that the jedi code forbids and type of attachments so it means that if his mother is in danger he has to forget his mother and allow her to be killed for the good of the order.... <--- this is something that the sith dark lord took advantage of.... skywalker loved his mother, and he was denied the chance to save her....

To be honest, at first impression makes the Jedi Order a order of homosexuals + haters of all things relating to love and procreation + mother haters....

Jedi really did not knew how to use their positions really their rock stars and their not forbidden prom physical relationships. Was there really no jedi who lived a life of debauchery that is not against the jedi code.

Without Shmi's death, he's not gonna learn how painful it was to lose someone and he would not believe his vision that much, thus he would not seek the power of the Dark Side simply because of a dream.

Obi-Wan didn't deny Anakin the chance to save Shmi.

Near the start of AotC, they are discussing Anakin's nightmares in the context of nightmares, not visions. Obi-Wan is sympathetic to Anakin but neither of them realise that Shmi is really in danger at that point. They're also in the middle of an assignment to protect Padmé and find out who is after her. Safeguarding Padmé is their priority at the time, not zipping off to Tatooine on the off chance.

It's not until later, when Anakin and Obi-Wan are separated, that Anakin's nightmares become too much for him to cope with so he and Padmé go to Tatooine, and the rest is history.

The jedi don't hate attachment, or mothers, or love. They also don't expect anyone but Jedi to follow these rules (Note. A Jedi is allowed to quit at anytime as a Jedi.) and even then there's exceptions.

I call BS. Losing the love of your life pregnant with your child wouldn't cause him to seek the dark side power to keep her alive, just like what happened in ROTS?

That was going to happen Shmi dead or not.

Actually, it was fear that did Anakin in. Fear of losing what he loves. It is why the Jedi forbid attachment. People will do anything to protect someone they love.

Schmi's death opened the door to the fear when he dreams of Padme. The emperor capitalized on this "weakness."

If it had not been the fear of loss, the emperor would have continued to hammer away at Anakin's insecurity and sense of entitlement, as we had seen all along. This was just a quicker path to get him to fall. It was a big risk for Palp, but it worked splendidly.
