Is the Jedi planet Tython or Ilum?

Both planets are significant to the Jedi, but what's the difference?

Also same question, but for the SIth equivalent planets.

Both of the Jedi and Sith originated from Tython. Back then, there was no sides of the force, so much as aspects. However, the names escape me, those who studied the darker aspects, wanted to use its power to improve the order. To do away with outdated ideals and such. Hence the first great schism.

Ultimately, the Dark Jedi lost and were exiled into wild space. Eventually, they came upon the planet Korriban where they encountered the Sith species which was very strong in the force. They conquered them and became 'Lords of the Sith'. Which is part of where the 'Sith' name came from.

From there, lots of galactic history that eventually leads to SWTOR.

As for Ilum, it is less a Jedi World, than a world that is extremely rich in lightsaber crystals. Heck, for a good deal of the first great schism, most Jedi/Dark Jedi did not use lightsabers but instead swords. Those of rank had protosabers, which were like lightsabers, but had a cord attached to their belt and the hilt in order to power it.

The rise of the protosabers/lightsabers is what made worlds such as Ilum so important. However, Sith preferred synthetic crystals and relied on such much less.

Also same question, but for the SIth equivalent planets.

The old Sith had Korriban and Ziost. They originated on Korriban and Ziost was the first planet they conquered. Ziost became the capital, but the Dark Lords of the Sith were still buried on Korriban in the Valley of the Dark Lords.

At the time of SWTOR Dromund Kaas is now the capital, while the most prestigious Sith Academy is located on Korriban. I suspect that while Korriban is important for tradition the fact that it is primarily desert makes it unsuitable as center of an interstellar empire.
