Nortumberland
Hello, fellas! I've recently returned to the game and since it's 3.0 already, I'd like to know - which vanguard spec is more fun for soloing/ random pvp currently - shield or tactics? I used to play shield long ago in 2012 but I didn't actually liked beind tank in pvp nor in pve - it's more fun and easier to find an ops as a good dps. I'd play a dps but than I hated all that plasma style... I wanted gut! I really like how tactics looks now! Sweet gut, @greanadier@ talent and assault plastique (man, I'm a demo maniac in most games). I didn't get what is new tactical surge on the other hand though (it used to be a free filler - now what is it? since energy damage is greatly lowered by armor and many skills - no?). I find that tactics now really looks like Rep Commando style! I haven't tried it for leveling or pvping (started a new fresh vang) so I need some feedback - what is your cookie soldier spec for all around stuff? GabDube
Tactics/Advanced prototype is generally the most useful for solo queue in pvp. It's a very good DPS class for PVE too. Shield tech/Shield specialist is a great PVE tank and a good defender or quarterback in PVP. It's the only thing that makes Huttball's CTF gameplay tolerable for me. Tactics on the Vanguard side also has the advantage of using its weapon fire more than the other two VG subclasses, as far as animations go (it doesn't require more ghostbuster-esque electric blasts). For Powertechs, it's pretty much the opposite in terms of animations, with Shield tech being the only sub-class that uses its blaster for an ability other than Rapid Shots (Heat Blast). It is more flame-thrower focused and doesn't have Advanced Prototype's retractable blade, but at least it doesn't swap flame burst for a ridiculous-looking magnetic blast either, so attacks are more consistent. For lore-friendlyness, I'd go Tactics for Vanguard and Shield Tech for Powertech.
