Question on Commando PVP Gearing

I was wondering which gear and stats are the best for each discipline. I've always thought that for Gunnery and Assault Specialist, Power and Surge were the best, but Id love to know if thats not the case. Id also like to know the best stats for Combat Medic, and the PVP gear set that is best for each of the disciplines. Lastly, I was wondering if I should use main stat augments or power/surge augments. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance guys :D

I have tried to research the augment subject myself and there just doesn't seem to be much Commando support out there. These forums tend to be mostly the stomping grounds for the Mercs.

So maybe some of them can give you some feedback with their mirror class.

But with that said, let me try to answer what I can.

Your gear options are actually fairly limited unless you want to go through the expense of removing mods in PVP gear to place in PVE equipment. I have seen people do this quite a bit in PVP, but you need some deep pockets to do this. I want to say the average cost to remove a mod from a level 60 gear is around 11k each.

but as for which set to go for, that part is actually farely easy to decide. Looking at the set bonuses for each set, will tell you if it is intended for your particular class. If the skills listed in the set bonus don't match any of yours, then that set is intended for a different class.

As for the augment question, I tend to focus on power myself on my Gunnery. Some people say main stat will get a minisucle improvement over power, but you also have to consider dimenishing returns and from what people say, power can go a lot further than main stat befoe this happens. So unless you want to purchase additional power augments down the road, power is the better approach to start with and you just live with the fraction of one percent difference you get between the two on each mod.

If I had more time I would go into more detail, but I will give you a short rundown.

For both DPS disciplines you want around 95 percent accuracy, its more important for gunnery, but still a little important for assault, you can get away with lower accuracy with assault, but with gunnery, you will be missing all the time under 95 percent because a lot of its attacks are accuracy based.

Crit -

Gunnery - 25 percent is optimal

Assault- 30 percent because of dots

Surge -

Gunnery - 70-75 percent

Assault - 75- 80 percent because of dots.

After you reach those levels, you can either focus on all power, all mainstat, or a mix of both (which is what I do)

That's a very wrong way to look at this. Your priority is not to reach an arbitrary % with your stats, but rather to spend your stat budget smartly.

Like the 80% surge you suggested for Assault is impossible unless you count in the surge from Target Lock.

For the OP:

First of, you need accuracy in both disciplines because for gunnery your highest dps ability is ranged and also 2/3 of your burst moves are also ranged. For Assault ~68% of your damage is either ranged or result of a successfull ranged attack (SB bleed and Plasma Cell burn).

And for both it's also part of your mobility since MB and VB are both ranged and only grant instants if they don't miss.

Now let's see how can you spend your stat budget smartly. In normal wz gear your stat budget is 790 and in ranked gear 860.

790

----

first

4*79 accuracy = 4.14%

4*79 surge = 16.67%

then

2*79 alacrity = 2.06%

or

2*79 surge = 4.44%

------------------------------

860

----

first

3*86 accuracy = 3.43%

4*86 surge = 17.6%

then

3*86 alacrity = 3.3%

or

3*86 surge = 6%

Alacrity or Surge is up for personal preference. I would take Surge for Gunnery and Alacrity for Assault though. Of course you can also take 1 extra surge and rest for alacrity or any variation.

As for crit, Mandos have the highest surge in game right now, because of Target Lock and Surge passives in all 3 disciplines. For that high crit is encouraged. Since I don't have exact numbers I'd guess between 200-300 should be good enough.

I have 75 percent surge with my commando assault character, and have a lot more I can tinker with, it is not impossible . I also said if I had more time I would have went into more detail. Please read. I have also seen people have their crit bonus at nearly 100 percent. So 80 is in no way impossible. Edited by mmmbuddah

With pvp stat budget? Yes it is.

Ranked pvp budget is 860.

860 surge = 26.7 %

50 + 1 + 26.7 = 77.7 %

Unless you waste augments that's the max you can get. (just for lulz if you use 14 surge augments and all your stat budget for surge you can get 80.5% surge )

Hard cap on surge is 30%
